"I don't know who Sachin Tendulkar is" : Maria Sharapova

Your wrong. While any abuse against Russell Arnold is condemnable, the two are not equatable as your trying to make them out to be. Arnold in a Sri vs Pak game said that even prayers were not going to help Pakistan win. He clearly meant that Pakistan doesn't have any chance of winning but in the end Pakistan won the match. I don't know about anybody else but for me it was no more than an lol worthy moment.

All Sharapova did was state a fact but some people don't seem to recognize that.

You should have seen the reaction he had to face, with people indignant that his remark was a mockery of their religious beliefs.

Yes sunshine, I acknowledged that difference in semantics. But you don't see the similarity between both cases. One was ignorant about others power of prayers, and the other was ignorant about the fame of the person. Why are you justifying the outrage of one over the other? Why such double standards?

False equivalence. Maria Sharapova merely doesn't know who Tendulkar is while Arnold didn't wonder whether or not prayers don't work, he said they don't. I am not saying this is something to bash Arnold about but it isn't remotely the same thing.

Just checked out her Facebook page.

Hilarious. :91:

The equivalence is between the reactions of the respective fans. If Sachin fans should not expect everyone to know about their icon, then others should also not expect everyone to have faith in their beliefs.

6 Pages because a tennis star doesn't know who Sachin Tendulkar is? Some people need to take their head out of the sand and realise that outside of the subcontinent cricket isn't seen as a major sport.

Actually most of the 6 pages are similar posts to yours so you could have avoid making the 169th one with the same points

I doubt anybody on this thread is moronic enough to effectively e-trash a Facebook page, any rage directed at the Indian contingent on this forum should count as a misfire.

Sorry I didn't read the previous 6 pages, I was just amazed that a thread that was started yesterday on such an innocuous subject had reached 6 pages. I had to go back to the first page to check because I thought it must have been an old thread bumped from last year.

Is it obligatory for every living creature on earth to know Sachin?
The comments on FB seem like they have been posted by 12 year olds.

That Facebook of hers shows how insecure and stupid fans are. They give the whole sport a bad name.

I work in advertising and Social Media and I can attest that a large company like Ogilvy & Mather or JWT or the like are probably in charge of that particular page, and they ain't having a good time in the slightest this week.

One fan.

FRIENDS AND MY SACHIN LOVERS...PLEASE UNLIKE THIS PAGE.......SHE IS THE ONLY ONE WHO DOESNT KNOWS THE GOD OF THE WORLD....SACHIN GOD OF SPORTS MASTER BLASTER.............................................................................Dear friend of Maria Sharapova, you don't know who is "Sachin Tendulkar"?
This is a really weird thing, that Sachin Tendulkar is unknown to the person, who is a sports person.
I'll tell you who is the God of cricket Sri. "Sachin Tendulkar".
Sachin Is Our Master, the inspiration for a billion people, the legend.

I'm actually loving the trolling that's gone on FB and Twitter. :))

Can't say I'm not guilty of some. ;-)

The Sharapovas will ensure every kid in their family is told stories about Sachin from now on.

BCCI to launch IPL8 in Moscow to ensure that Sharapova & every other Russian knows who Sachin Tendulkar is.. :srt

Sharapova doesnt know SachinTendulkar, not a big deal. Sachin has already inspired Millions of Indian to play Cricket even with Tennis ball

I think SRT was briefly on worldwide trends but he's off the stack now.

Not really. Just showing you your own real face.

well, recently there is a thread in pp, a women killed by her father/relatives in front of police/court in pakistan.. So can i say all pak people is like this...?

Every Indian from China to the West Indies is furiously tweeting their disapproval while setting Sharapova's pic as their phone wallpaper.

Yes, yes, every one of 1.2 billion Indian have completely left all jobs and are tweeting this

Use to think Khanistas are the worlds most blind worshippers. I have been proven wrong, Sachinistas are miles ahead of them.

I had a good day reading the comments on her FB page. Sachinistas are just on another level altogether.

:))) :))) saj takes potw :afridi

Expecting Sharapova to issue a public apology to Sachin and the people of India for hurting their sentiments very soon.

One thing i didnt get is why are ppl from kerala at the forefront of this.

I didnt know cricket was popular there. Also arent they the most educated state in india with 90% literacy. you wouldnt expect them to do such stuff

That is a good lesson in not to use the internet to generalize opinions. There is a deep response bias.

Indians on the internet are making sure that next generation of Sharapova's will know who sachin is/was.

Lol at people arguing about endorsements and how many times someone made it onto the cover of a magazine.

Are these guys sharing their fame and money with you? If the answer is no, then sthu and get a life.

some people are too deluded to realize whats going on. its cringeworthy at times.

No one NEEDS to know who Tendulkar is. It's not like you're going to die if you don't know who he is. People need to move on and stop winging.

Lol.some butthurt Indians have been absolutely pathetic on FB about this. Cricket is a main sport in 4 countries all from the subcontinent. In Aus it is pretty popular. In Eng SA and NZ it is not even the main sport. Cricket is unknown in mainland Europe the Americas most of Africa and the rest of Asia. Why would a russian know about Tendulkar its like asking an Indian or Pakistani who Brian O'Driscoll or Johnny Wilkinson are

Oops.. Its just not stopped yet .... Btw malayalees gets over it, its north indians time now..

If I were a Sharapova fan, I'll just reverse-troll Sachin's online portals just for the lulz.

"Am I on Sachin's page, or is it someone else?" or something to that effect.

Why getting embarrassed? I feel so proud at the power of a few Indians who can turn their reaction to an innocuous statement by a tennis player into headlines the world over. This is going to be the beginning of our rule over the internet.

if they make a good joke out of it then there's no problem.. But most of them just abusing/filthing her on fb.. On twitter can find some hilarious jokes..

they dont have the time lol. they are not indians

I'll be not suprised if her page get deleted.. The sachin devoted fans now reporting her page as spam/scam..

Meanwhile Sheryl Sandberg said that "India is Facebook’s second largest market, fastest growing market, fastest growing Internet connectivity in APAC. It is of high priority for us." Good times ahead.

It's because Indians aren't as big on Twitter as on Facebook. You might find the erudite ones tweeting away, but the majority of the unwashed billion still reside on the good ol' F.

Not gonna happen. It's a verified page and all that.

one tweet :))

"It's perfectly fine if Maria Sharapova doesn't know about Sachin Tendulkar. Maybe he never crossed her line of sight."

If i can ask one question to Sharapova, I'll ask 'do you know SANTHOSH PUNDIT from INDIA...?'

The most embarrassing thing: this did not make news in the US at all. Tendy not being recognised is not newsworthy enough for them.

Jadeja's parody account making a fool of himself :))

Pretty embarrassing how some people have reacted over this non-incident.

Lol who cares whether she knows Sachin or not? Sachin is our gem and will be always like that.;-)

Should Indians be banned from Facebook/Twitter? Or if outright banning is not possible, some strict checks need to be placed on them when people signing up from Indian IPs.

Some sort of a questionnaire to assess their mentality so that they don't damage social media later on occasions like these.
