"I want to get to #1 in the ODI rankings and be the best one-day batsman in the world" : Babar Azam

Yeah, and I want to become SRK.

Babar Azam sure does talk a lot for a guy whose fallen so hard over the last 6 months.

His ODI average is 58 in the last 6 months.

Don't mix his test performances with his ODI performances.

Yes. In an interview where he is asked about how he feels about being in the top 10 rankings, he should have said his dream is to fail badly and he is such a failure that he shouldn't dream about being number 1.

Don't waste your time mate, half these guys play the game on excel spreadsheets and stick cricket. We could have Virat Kohli batting at 3 and they'd still find petty criticism.

Wait just a minute! How is AB a poor role model?

A poor captain, doesn't have the temperament to win big matches, can't chase big totals, prefers to hide in the middle-order instead of leading from the front etc., all in all, a chicken-hearted cricketer in spite of possessing remarkable talent.

The only cricketer Babar needs to emulate is Kohli. A player who will end up leagues above de Villiers in spite of having much less natural ability. He is the perfect role model for a young batsman, not just due to his batting temparement but also the way he trains, eats and thinks about the game.

He is the youngest batsman in the top 10 ODI batsman ranking so expecting to be no 1 someday isnt that impossible a dream. Haters gonna hate but guy has some talent.

Why won't everyone leave him alone

Go on shoot yourself in the foot,You've already lost an arm,and a leg what else do you want,(already lost Akmal jr and Shehzad)

Give the guy confidence,he said everything appropriately, remember 22 year olds don't go out and win games for you,in 4 years time he will be winning games,This is like a project,Quite a unique project that when finished will stand above the rest but the project requires patience and the right planning.

Babar should emulate

Either Williamson or Joe Root

These guys have all condition technique and realistically Babar can reach there level

He's a good batsman and he's doing perfectly well, don't undertand why people tag him as a revelation, he hasn't the world alight. But at the same time, it's nothing but being bitter to claim he is not a good batsman and won't be anywhere near the top in distant future. Kohli's success and babar's success are not interlinked, even if babar become as good as kohli later in his career, it won't undermine Kohli's achievement. So enjoy the batsman and the skills which he has to offer to world cricket instead of being judgemental bunch over a 22 year old.

keep dreaming dude. Lol at number 1. there is a big difference between you and Kohli, root, abdv, etc., when it comes to class and talent. good luck with your dream.

You are clueless and he doesn't need to dream because he's already a top ODI bat.

However I hope he keeps his hunger up.

At his age not many batsmen have achieved what he has so far.

One more :shh

Hes plundered easy runs against W.I and S.L so he should do the same here against Zimbabwe.

He isn't the only player that plays Sri lanka and WI, Virat kohli and others have also played them, some more times than babar, so they should also have an awesome record against SL and WI.....oh wiat they don't :yk

being the #1 ranked batsman and being the absolute best in the world are two different things

Kallis and Sangakkara were #1 ranked batters for a decade or so but they never had the reputation of Tendulkar, Lara. Only Ponting came close to that kind of an aura during his peak.

He made this comment in 2017, back then he was playing for the team and wanted to be no 1 to represent Pakistan.

That's not the case anymore
This is definitely the case, you need to critically think a little bit more.

A goal of being number one on the fringe ICC rankings is embarrassing. Your goals as a batter should be helping the team win.

In 2017 he made this claim because he wanted to be a kohli for Pakistan aka a match winner for his team. I did think critically and I know why he said what he said.

Babar regressed since 2019 cause fame got to his head and the glorified rank got his head.

In 2017 he said it under a different context.

If he wanted to be a match winner, he would’ve said it directly. An personal ICC ranking is not a measurement of how many matches you’re winning for your team.

Bro I'm not defending babar.

I'm just saying the context of what current babar would say this in, and what 2017 babar said it when he wasn't fully established are 2 different reasons.

2017 babar said it because mickey entrusted him to bat at no 3 in all formats and he felt he could surpass kohli.

2023 babar just wants the no 1 tag but doesn't care about anything else.

There was a brief period Imam/Fakar/Babar were in top 4 rankings if i am right. Fakhar reached no.2 as well. Imam no.2 as well. They piled a lot of runs.

Fakhar and imam worked because fakhar played modern cricket and imam to his credit knows how to anchor well.

When fakhar played modern or when babar was bashing minnows, Imam could just carry in his merry way and avoid short balls and stay in his comfort zone cause like I said imam anchors and rotates well.

He's being exposed now cause with babar struggling and Abdullah not being a modern player, as well as toothless bowling causing high totals, imam has to accelerate and try to attack which he cannot do. He gets out 100% of the time when he tries to attack.

Our players are obsessed with rankings and averages.

Start playing for the team more and you will see better results.

He should have aimed for being the best batsmen In the world and winning pakistan games

Kind of feel for him... Let down by his own teammates, fans are against him, vulture media and grumpy ex cricketers are all out for his blood. He should leave captaincy for his own good and focus on his batting. Let others fight for captaincy.

Pakistan will have to chase 300+ against NZ.

Babar is only 2 points ahead of Gill.

Today is the day that Babar will either loose his #1 ODI batter ranking or prolong it.

No one cares now if you are No.1 in rankings. We need a match winner not a glorified selfish accumulator.

Your legacy is damaged.
