What little I understand is that you can’t contain players like Mitch Marsh - if they stay in middle, they’ll keep bashing. Best way to deal with such players is pin then down at one side & don’t allow them to free arm - eventually they’ll get out. What I see is a spectrum of pie offerings - short or too full, generously either side of the wicket and some full tosses as well.
Long back an WIN opener (Philip Wallace ???) scored 2-3 hundreds at modern T20 rate - took WIN to final of inaugural CT in 1998 at Dhaka. Unfortunately, just after that guy had couple of tours against Australia & SAF - he didn’t cross 15 for next 10/12 innings and got dropped forever. In those games opening pacers didn’t give him a single ball to cut, nothing on back foot to pull and kept him on front foot for entire innings, unless it’s an intended bouncer. Guy got out 3-4 times caught at mid-on, trying to manufacture a pull of a good length ball, dragging from off side.
Not sure, what’s the thought process of Rauf - Shaheen is definitely not at his best, but still got away with 14 in 4, in same game, means it’s definitely not an one way traffic for batsmen out there.
