What's new

ICC World Cup 2023: India (201/4) comfortably defeat Australia (199) by 6 wickets

Cummins seems to be an average captain. He let Kohli and Rahul settle in before bringing in Zampa.
As a legspinner, Zampa needs some time to settle in. Pressure on Australia now.

People's were calling for Zampa and he gave 13 over in single over while maxi conceded 9 runs in 4 over

KL Rahul is renowned for being one of the best players of Spin Bowling in India. The Indian team think tank has pulled off a master stroke by putting him in the middle order.

India needs to be careful. Pressure on Australia now. A soft dismissal can change the complexion of the game.

Cam Green with his innocent baby pace & nice juicy harmless length has just transferred the momentum towards the Indians who up until that over were going on Misbah template. This is why I don't have much confidence in Cummins's captaincy, he lacks the typical aussie killer instinct. Why the hell has he waited this long to bring Zampa back? 1/3 of the innings is over & both are already settled & relaxed. If they lose today it will be due to this dumb decision & of course the utter brain fade by Marsh & Carey.
To be fair to green he bowled decently

Gorgeous shots from Rahul especially the wristwork putting away the fulltoss.

But Rahul is one of those rare batsmen who looks depressed after he's played a good shot :rp
Rahul in middle order has been solid. We shall see what he can do though in a pressure game.

India cruising now. They've had it much easier than I expected after 3 down for 2

Zampa bowling dollies, bowling looking very easy to handle. He is taking the pressure off and allowing India to ease into the target.

I told you Aus relying too much on Zampa and this can be the downfall to their campaign. He’s decent but against the Asian sides he may not be ass effective

Alright I've been quite for long enough.

This is an absolute farce! How do you recover after being 2-3? How do not continue with Hazlewood after he got 2 wickets in 4 overs? How do you drop a dolly catch and not even get a hand to the ball?

What a mockery of the game. Just hand India the world cup and stop wasting everyone's time.
I agree. The Aussies will turn into monsters in Bangalore where they will smash 450 against Pakistan , injure whatever remaining bowlers you have and bowl you out under 100 :inti

I think you should have continued to stay quiet :rp

There's absolutely no logic behind bringing him. Hazel & Starc were chocking them, why did Cummins stop them after just 4 overs each? He let them settle, now Zampa comes & bowls to one of the best modern players of spin & gets his ass handed. These are the sort of dumb robotic decisions that we call out Babar for, so obviously Cummins should be criticized too. He handed the match back to Indians which his brilliant fast bowlers had almost pocketed.Smith, not Cummins should have been the skipper.

Atmosphere is looking great with every single there is big cheers .what Will happened when 120K people's cheering for India at ahemdabad against Pakistan

Brother you csnt just keep forcing fast bowlers to bowl at full tilt for more than 4 over spells. Its too taxing on the body. It was the right call I feel I get what you are saying bur fast bowlers need rest too. Very hot out there.

Problem with Zampa is he's a defensive spinner. Not an attacking one. If Aus put 270-280 on a turning / 2 paced surface, then batsmen will get out trying to attack him. But when posed with totals like today, batsmen don't have the need to attack him, they just milk him.

So this is my view so I shared it
I dont see why anything I said was wrong at all. Is kohli not a failure in KO stages since 2011? Was he not dropped? Was he not lucky today?
Is his technique vs outside off still a weakness that can be exploited?

India has a game each in Chennai and Lucknow (similar conditions to Chennai), Pakistan and NZ play twice in Chennai, Australia later face Sri Lanka in Lucknow, SA once each in Chennai/Lucknow etc. Then I was looking at Dharamsala, Kolkata, the pace friendly venues, again all teams play twice there. Bengaluru and Mumbai being the high scoring venues, Hyderabad/Delhi (yesterday's game was a statistical outlier)/Pune similar, somewhat more even when it comes to bat/ball balance.

So all teams get a good balance of pitches, in terms of spin friendly, pace friendly, batting paradise, two paced wicket, high scoring, low scoring, medium scoring etc. Thorough test for all in the group stage in a variety of conditions. Don't know if this schedule was by design or an accident, but I really like the distribution of venues for all teams. India has a diverse variety of pitches and all teams will have to prove themselves in all these different conditions to get into knockouts. Evenly spread.

Why is that? That is very weird. Lol
Klrahul is like misbah lol ! Only good when someone at the other end is playing well. But if the onus is just on him to win the game - he's like misbah, make some useless runs at the back end when the game is well lost. Misbah made an entire generation of Pak batsmen timid..

This is as close to a pressure game as he can get. I understand ko is the real pressure game. But still this was as close to a high pressure game as it could get.

It will be pin drop silence there, you know why :inzi

Yeah all is true.

But its also true that he is an ATG and its also true he is showing how he has the determination and grit to take his team home in a tough first game.

Not many teams would recover from 2-3 to be winning the match.

Sri Lanka were what? 9-6 in Asia Cup?

Aus need to plan a wicket rather than go through the motions. But I would bring Green back he was getting varying bounce

@MMHS I think you were right.

Barring a miracle, you cant drop Kohli on this pitch and expect him to give it away again.

That's true. Home conditions and support also help

If we were chasing anything above 250 .then from 2-3 position we are never going to win any matches

@Everyone.

Please don't disturb @kron.

He's busy listening to Finch wax eloquent on Kohli :rp
He needs to deliver in pressure games. If he does then sure. Wax eloquent on kohli all you want. I am yet to see him deliver in an odi wc ko game since 2011. If he does then sure. Great player becomes a true great.
