ICC World Cup 2023: India (274/6) defeat New Zealand (273 all out) by 4 wickets

Old ball going soft making it tough to hit. Also saw reverse swing in some of the games, maybe because of abrasive outfields?
SHami is an exceptional reverse swing bowler. Best i have seen from India alongwith Umesh. But accuracy wise Shami is ahead. Ball just tails back at the last minute especially in Tests. It is largely because of abrasive surfaces.

Actually, they are below par. At least 50 runs short. If not more.
We’ll see. Unless there’s a lot of dew and a significant difference in conditions, the ball was not coming on to the bat nicely. It looked very low and sluggish. Obviously big credit to India’s brilliant bowling attack as well. I think NZ have done very well in assessing the conditions during the innings.

What do you guys think .can we chased 274? :)
Or old pattern repeat again?
Tough to say. Indians saying it can swing under lights. So might be tough initially. If they survive the first 10 overs I think india could take this.

Shami in world cups
12 matches, 36 wickets, avergae of 15, Strike rate of just 17, 2 fifers, 3 fourfers

Bumrah in WCs,
14 matches, 29 wickets, average of 18, Strik rate 27, 2 four fers, economy rate of just 4.1

Outstanding numbers for both Indian pacers, but still they are not playing together for some stupid reasons 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Chasing can prove to be difficult here, an in form South Africa were pinned down by even a Netherlands bowling attack.
Boult and Henry could yet make this difficult, but India has arguably the best batting lineup to counteract the threat.
Could be in for the tournament's first nailbiter here.
Undoubtedly difficult against a disicplined NZ side. They won't give any quarters. But , big but if India survives 10 overs without damage Kohli will run so many twos till 40th over and open up. That is how he will go about. This is fairly a large ground.

India tries to have that 8th batsman just in case scenario. I would be okay with that, if that batsman at 8 is a decent batsman who can bowl. In current form Thakur with bat is not a huge upgrade over Shami with bat. Deepak Chahar is a much better batsman in LOIs.
What happened to deepak. Seemed like he got decent swing. Remember him batting well vs SA.

Arshdeep can he bat?

This is 34 runs more than What India had to chase in England semi final. That was under heavy cloud cover on a fresh day morning

Yes first 10 is crucial. If they can get through that phase without much damage then advantage India

Permanently injured until the IPL. He gets 14 crores every year from CSK. So he won't bother playing for India. Arshdeep is a tailender.

Thakur is an imaginary all rounder who brings imaginary balance with his 15 runs with the bat. Same boat as Nawaz and Shadab. One thing this world cup has taught us is the irrelevance of such fake players. Always go with specialists.

Yea I s3riously don't understand this logic by Indians. This pseudo AR nonsense. Leaving quality like. Shami and prasidh on bench.

You’re not alone there in failing to understand what goes through the selectors’ minds. I’m all for all rounders, but Thakur? Puhlease.

Even we do the same thing. Bringing wasim jnr. Thankfully that idea has been subverted.

That is so impressive. Proud of the bowler boyz. Serving the country faithfully .

How come it still is same thread for 2nd batting? I thot always tow threads, one for side batting first, one for second batting - has it changed?

Rohit Viv Richard Sharma in this WC . The most MVP batsman in this WC

A strange trend in this WC so far is that except for South Africa against SL & ENG, no team is scoring more than 6 an over in the last 10. England with 6-7 wickets in hand only scored 60 odd against Bangladesh in a very good wicket. Same with Australia against PAK, and the current game.
One of the reason is there's an extra fielder outside circle last 10 overs..

Rohit in past 2 years the way he's batted is making a case for ODI ATG, thought he would be our version of Hasim Amla tbh

Lockie
Boult
Henry
Santner
Rachin part timer
Daryl part timer
Glen phillips ?

6.5 bowlers.

This version of Rohit can't bat for longer time but he makes sure to destroy opponents in his short stay.
Best Version of Him.
Fearless, unpredictable, consistent and awesome🔥🔥

He's been fire for a decade? How on earth can you compare him to amla?

Amla always required handholding even in bilaterals from people around him lol.

De Villiers was class. Amla is just yousaf 2.0

Amla is a test legend.

I think boult trying hard to bend one into hitman's pads....
hope we play him out carefully...and smash the others

Amla is a test legend.
Oh bhai, why do you keep bringing in test into odi.

Their different formats altogether and have their own style of play.

Younis Khan was a test atg, even the most blind haters can't deny how much of a goat he was in test and a solo match winner.

But he was horrible in odi.

Rohit is a goat in odi, a genuine atg and has played innings literally no in sa can play minus de Villiers.

Rohit has scored lot of soft runs, played tuk tuk to build innings for a long time. He was alright, just like Amla that's the reason his career SR is still around 90.

That said he's turned it around in last few years, played quite a few impactful innings and anchored only when it was needed.

Define last few years.

But he's also hit 264 and has played plenty 200 knocks.

And he's played fire innings lol.
