What's new

India (148/5) defeat Pakistan (147) by 5 wickets in the 2nd Match of the ACC Asia Cup

it was bad captaincy. they were either saving him for Karthik or didnt want to risk him against Pandya as Pandya can strike spinners very well.

If they wanted to save a spinner, Shadab would had been the better option. But pacers should bowl the last few overs
Lol it's not bad captaincy.. Pandya is a very good player against spinners so he has no other option.. also Nawas 3rd over was expensive..

Babar did well as captain yesterday. Captaincy wasn't the reason for his team's defeat.

The way Pakistani pacers tied us in knots till even as late as 17th over, Babar too should get some credit for that.

Fitness is a huge issue and was cause of this defeat - of course full credit to Pandya.

Only thing I like about T20 format is its unpredictability.

Any team can defeat any other team on any given day.

Average quality game made interesting provided by 2 sides whose batting looks directionless

There is no place for KL Rahul as opener in T20Is especially in high profile tournament games. If you have to play him then his spot is only in middle order.

Next game would be vs weak opponent so maybe persist with KL but I would want a change in strategy. Go with Rohit and Kohli at the top, Kohli is best in powerplays vs pace( doesn't matter even if it is 140+). SKY at 3 can change games at that position, then a left hander Pant at 4, Pandya at 5 and Jadeja at 6. DK to play as finisher at 7.

Also bring Ashwin instead of Avesh. There is something in it for spinners and Ashwin has improved his hitting too. Unfortunately no place for Rahul especially as opener, maybe play him in middle order of you want to stick with him.
Agree
KL shouldn't play in T20's, we need him in odis and tests.
Rohit+Kohli as openers and SKY at no3 would be good.

The Current Indian Middle Order (S.K.Y-JADEJA-PANDYA-D.K) is SOLID.

Its so good that the Following are sitting in the Dugout

RISHABH PANT
SHEREYAS IYER
DEEPAK HOODA

Have to say wasn't fully satisfied with that win. Top order failed again and in-form SKY didn't deliver too.
Still don't get why they went back from new attack in PP approach to old consolidation type. Will be interesting to observe the approach in remaining pak matches.

Shoaib Akhtar

Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar, however, was not impressed by the cricket on display and he went on to say that both teams tried to lose the game and it was a "bad day of cricket".

"I want to congratulate both India and Pakistan. Both teams tried to lose the game, India was almost successful in that. India were trying their best to lose the game but Hardik Pandya took them over the line. You only tell me, if Rizwan will score 45 of 45 balls, what to say? There were 19 dot balls in the first six overs when Pakistan were batting. If you play so many dot balls, you will be in trouble,"

"There was bad selection, both captains Babar Azam and Rohit Sharma made bad selection calls. India dropped Rishabh Pant and Pakistan played Iftikhar Ahmed at No.4. No disrespect to him. I have said so many times that Babar should not open, he should come one down and he anchors the innings. Fakhar and Rizwan should open,"

"Both teams played bad cricket, Pakistan messed up their batting order. Even India sent Ravindra Jadeja at No.4, so you just think how bad the calls were from both sides."

"Pakistan then sent Shadab Khan ahead of Asif Ali, so I was not able to understand the thinking of Babar Azam. It is really really bad cricket. Pakistan did not do the calculation for the last over. It was a bad day of cricket. Both teams played poorly. I did not like it one bit, I don't care what others have to say"

It was great to finally see a thrilling IndoPak game after almost a decade. Well played Pandya and well done to the bowlers.

But still so much to improve on the batting front. Especially the PP batting. Our top 3 needs to be overhauled ASAP.

Sending Jadeja at 4 was a master stroke

He caused at least 10 runs through extras and he also nullified the threat of the left arm spinner

Yep, Pakistan meanwhile struggle to think on their feet tactically and stick to pre-formulated plans.

Mickey was saying that an over or two of Nawaz or Shadab should've been tried in the PP against the two RHBs Rohit and Kohli. Apparently Rohit's SR against legspin in the PP is fairly low.

We must do better in exploiting these matchups.

Match could have gone either way. It was Pandya's night and his confidence and self belief in his hitting ability was the difference in the end.

Bowling Nawaz the final over was also a mistake. Pandya can hit tweakers for fun.

Jadeja was the difference in this match. His six against Naseem was the turning point. He batted much better and faster than Rohit, Kohli, Rahul and 360 degree. From there on even Bhuvi would have won it for India. :inti

Pandya smashed Rauf in the second last over. No guarantee he would not have finished the job against a pacer in the final over.
