India (153 & 80/3) defeat South Africa (55 & 176) by 7 wickets to draw the series 1-1

With this win, great chance of another Ind-Aus WTC final in 2025.

Away test wins are like gold dust , however and wherever they come

That's the series 1-1..

Terrible wicket...

Why do I get the feeling India would have won had they bowled first in the 1st test..

And not played Prasidh and played Mukesh. India needed an extra batsman in place of Ashwin as well. Team selection was messed up as well.

long long way to go for that...and if we make the finals, BCCI will make sure we are ill prepared for it...like in 2021 and 2023 with the useless never ending ipl finsihing just beofre, and our guys getting steamed / injured/tired/fatigued in 40 deg heat in march april may

Why India always plays 2 match test series in SA but 5 each against Eng and Aus?

Atleast it could have been 3 match series

Last time we played 3 test series, before that in 2017-18 also 3 test series.

SA will only host 2 test series henceforth, CSA's decision.

We won and level the series with some style .
Last series in Australia - India won 2-1
Last series in England - India Draw 2-2
Last test series in South Africa - India Draw 1-1
When we will next test series in NZ ? Any idea

NZ is not a hard place to win. But we don't tour there too often. Infact less than Bangladesh.

Game over. It was a good win by India but the pitch was horrible.
That is done. Shortest Test match? in terms of time/overs? any record created.

This will be shortest test match with a result - 106.2 overs by my calculation. The previous lowest was 109.2 - a game in 1932

Considering the amount of hype, PR, money, infrastructure, resources and quality players- this team should never be satisfied with useless draws.

Time to register wins especially when it matters the most. India hasn't won anything except Aus series.

Pakistan haven't won a single Test in the Southern Hemisphere in 13 years. Not sure how folks can post stuff like that with such confidence.
It was from a BD fan lol

We are performing well yes we should have won last both test series in England and South Africa but still this is pretty good record .
We are best test team in the world from last 6-7 years .

A remarkable win for India in Cape Town as they level the two-match Test series by 1-1.

RSA 55 & 176

IND 153 & 80/3

India won by 7 wkts

Fortress Cape Town breached, first time by an Asian side.

India has now conquered all 4 paciest/bounciest test venues: WACA, Gabba, Wanderers (x2), Newlands.

Lively pitches are good for test cricket but not lottery pitches like these. you never know which ball is going to go high or keep low, just happens randomly and there is a luck factor if the batsman can get out

If South Africa wants to perform well across the globe they have to improve their pitches. You cannot have pitches like this.

Don't have the same satisfaction with this win because of the horrible pitch. Test match didn't even last 5 sessions, shortest in terms of number of overs in the history of the format.

10th test win in SENA for India since January 2018 when we won in Johannesburg

4 in Australia
3 in SA
3 in Eng
0 in NZ

Remember India won 0 tests in SENA from 1986 tour of England (where we won the series 2-0) till 2002 Headingley.

The team hasn't clinched a series victory in England, South Africa, or New Zealand, making it uncertain whether they are the best in the world. Currently, Australia holds the urn since 2017 and the Test championship, establishing them as the leading team in the world. Although India has performed admirably, but they have not lived up to expectations.

Lowest match aggregates against India (both innings all-out)
193 - England (Ahmedabad, 2021)
212 - Afghanistan (Bengaluru, 2018)
229 - New Zealand (Mumbai WS, 2021)
230 - England (Leeds, 1986)
231 - (South Africa, Cape Town, 2024)

I felt the recent MCG pitch - Pak vs Aus was the best i saw in long time. it had even bounce, pace swing, spin and if yu applied yourself you can get big score. No wonder that match was such a thriller.....
I wish india could produce such pitches like MCG...

Exactly why the WTC finals should be a 3 match affair over 3 different countries/hemispheres....

I said India is not a world beater Team but they are best becouse none of other team performed better than india during this period .

India is not a complete team. India had a middle order that averaged in the 20s for 3 years in a row. Still they have done well thanks to outstanding pace attack. Especially when India had Bumrah/Shami/Ishant were firing on all cylinders should have won a lot more. But Indian batting always failed. That is why they were unable to dominate. ATG teams had good batting unit.

106 or 107 overs here
1st test lasted 210 overs

Total some 317 overs, meaning less than 11 sessions.

Basically this 2 test series lasted less than 4 days in total. Not even 4 days. Pitches in SC get rated as poor if a test gets over in 3 days, here the entire series lasted 3 days and 2 sessions. 65 wickets fell lmao.

If ICC doesn't take a stern look at this, test cricket should just die.

Game didn't even last full 2 days. Farce.

Congratulations to India though.
Shortest completed Test matches (by balls bowled)
642 - SA vs IND, Cape Town, 2024
656 - AUS vs SA, Melbourne, 1932
672 - WI vs ENG, Bridgetown, 1935
788 - ENG vs AUS, Manchester, 1888
792 - ENG vs AUS, Lord’s, 1888

107 overs makes it closer to a ODI. 34 wickets fell, a wicket every 3 overs. Farce of the highest order.

India’s Test wins in South Africa
By 123 runs - Johannesburg, 2006
By 87 runs - Durban, 2010
By 63 runs - Johannesburg, 2018
By 113 runs - Centurion, 2021
By 7 wickets - Cape Town, 2024
*India is the first Asian team to win a Test match at Newlands, Cape Town.

Biggest win-margins for India in SENA countries (by wickets)
By 10 wickets vs New Zealand, Hamilton, 2009
By 8 wickets vs New Zealand, Wellington, 1968
By 8 wickets vs New Zealand, Auckland, 1976
By 8 wickets vs Australia, Melbourne, 2020
By 7 wickets vs England, Nottingham, 2007
By 7 wickets vs South Africa, Cape Town, 2024

Good to see our guys appreciate Dean Elgar adn his career in the way they did, good touch to give him a signed team shirt.
What a champ - Elgar - i will forever remember his innings in 3rd test 2018 against us....took so many hits but never backed off....what a fighter and true servant of Saf cricket.

I am taking about Tests.

KL is middle order batsman now. Ishan is an opener or 1 down batsman.
Samson is a bigger mental midget than KL.
And if KL fails at middle order then what next? Specialist keeper? He got continuous chance at every position to cement his place.. Samson got very few, despite that he had good outing in odi but he still not good enough? Just admit you don't like Samson..

He was an old school gritty batter. Proper Test batter.

Australia in that time period has failed to win a single test series against India home and away and have failed to win in England and South Africa. They couldn't even win in Sl, a place where India wins without breaking a sweat.

Australia lost a test in Bangladesh in 2017.

India level Test series despite Markram's herculean effort

India beat South Africa by seven wickets despite a stunning century by Aiden Markram on the second day of the second Test at Newlands on Thursday and level the series.

Set to make 79 to win, India needed just 12 overs to secure the victory.

South Africa won the first Test in Centurion by an innings and 32 runs.

Chasing a small target on a difficult pitch, Indian opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal went on the attack from the first ball, making 28 off 23 deliveries before being caught on the boundary off Nandre Burger.

Shubman Gill (10) and Virat Kohli (12) fell to Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen before Shreyas Iyer hit the winning boundary with his only scoring stroke.

Captain Rohit Sharma was unbeaten on 16.

Markram hit 106 off 103 balls before South Africa were bowled out for 176 shortly before lunch.

Jasprit Bumrah took six for 61 –- and was denied the wicket of Markram when the batsman, on 71, edged a drive and wicketkeeper KL Rahul could not hold a catch above his head.

Markram defied a pitch with pace, extravagant seam movement and uneven bounce, on which the highest score of any of his teammates in either innings was 15.

He hit 17 fours and two sixes, one of which, off Prasidh Krishna, sailed out of the ground and onto a railway line beyond square leg.

The 29-year-old opening batsman was eventually out caught at mid-off by Sharma off Mohammed Siraj attempting another big shot.

Siraj set up India's win when he took six for 15 as South Africa were bowled out for 55 before lunch on Wednesday.

Twenty-three wickets fell on the first day.

India pip South Africa to top the WTC25 standings

The two-match Test series between India and South Africa concluded with the two teams sharing the spoils with a win each.

After the win in their opening match of the series, South Africa were positioned at the top of the WTC25 standings. The loss meant their win percentage fell down to 50%, the same as New Zealand, Australia, and Bangladesh.

With the Proteas leading the series with an unassailable 1-0 lead, India needed to bounce back in their only opportunity. The visitors had a riveting first day of the second Test as they bowled South Africa out for 55. However, after getting a decent start to their innings, India's batting line-up imploded in a bizarre fashion collapsing from 153/4 to 153 all out.

Despite faltering, India's bowling resumed from where they had left off in the first innings. This time it was the Jasprit Bumrah show that headlined the second innings as he picked up a five-wicket haul that helped the visitors restrict South Africa to 176. If not for a sensational hundred from Aiden Markram, the hosts would have been in dire straits.

India batters came out with a positive start and wrapped their 79-run chase within 12 overs to secure their second win of the current WTC cycle. However, they did lose three batters in the process.

This was also the shortest completed Test in terms of number of balls bowled, breaking a longstanding record 92-year-old record. It only took 642 balls for the Test to complete with a result, beating the 656-ball record in a Australia v South Africa Test in 1932.

Still early days in the WTC25 cycle as India will look to grab more points in their upcoming home Test series against England where they will compete in five matches, starting 25 January.

India have 3 home series coming up

5 test series vs Eng starting in couple of week's time
2 test series vs Ban in Sep-Oct
3 test series vs NZ in Oct-Nov

then the big one
5 test series in Aus in Nov('24)-Jan('25)

That will conclude the league phase of our WTC 2023-25

Aus hold urn since 2017, India hold BG trophy since 2015 beating Aus in 4 consecutive series.

cmon yaar...in the last few years in overseas in both Melbourne tests of 2018 and 2020 he got 50's , he bowled brilliantly in both tests, he got a 50 at first test of 2021 eng series, you are talking as if he is a serious dud. he's got several brilliant catches (wagner in auckland test) several brilliant runouts (smith in sydney 2021)
- and that is just the overseas tests that i have put forth
i agree he might not be an automatic pick - but he is not some run of the mill halwa either - 'freeloader' is bit rich, dude.
I feel only format he should play is home tests, nothing else.

2018 & 2020 were long back, which was my original point.

Good time to have some solid WTC points.

Anything less than 8 wins in these 10 tests will be a failure. Don't want us to lose a test but Eng may surprise.
I think we are in for a surprise against England. Our batting has been failing for quite some time now. Bowlers won't always prop us.

Elgar becomes MoS on the basis of a single innings.

May be CSA got sentimental and awarded him this award as a farewell gift.

Terrific performance from declining Indian team to level the series 1-1 in South Africa. No doubt it's a special moment having being ranked no.1 in all three formats. All hail India!

Won 2 test series in Australia
Drawn test series in England
Drawn test series in South Africa
Won everything in Windies and SL
Won everything at home

@sweep_shot yeah not much has changed in last 3-4 years :afridi

So home and away against every single opposition , Indians have lost one test series against NZ in NZ.

It has been a really dominating performance from Indians and pretty much due to having ATG bowling unit. It's going to end but extremely dominating performance in the last 5 years.

We drew a winnable series in Eng, ran away to play IPL when we were 2-1 ahead
We lost the 2021 series in SA
We lost last 2 WTC finals
We lost a home WC

We are in decline because of inept BCCI and Dravid, Rohit.

Series drawn but I can see ENG surprising this Indian team in their backyard. Ashwin and Jaddu will be less of a threat than they have been in the past on account of wear and tear, lack of enough match practice and ENG batters being more prepared and familiar to their style.

Indian quicks on the other hand look in good form and I don't see India struggling in that department. However, quicks are also not the most influential part of the equation when it comes to tests at home.

India's biggest worry is batting. Rohit simply does not look like a batsman who thinks or feels like playing a test knock anymore. Virat on the other hand wants to play and score but his abilities and skills are not the same. So basically India would be banking on the rookie Jaiswal aside from Gill, KL and Iyer who are still finding their bearing in this format.

Basically, stars are aligned for ENG to cause an upset especially if they stay true to bazball.

Yeah, was strange to see that despite his twin failures this test.

Nah, Eng can get lucky in one test but they don't have skills to bat well if there is turn.

India have won their last series in Aus, drawn their last series in SA and Eng. Must do better in NZ.

What's the word on Pant. Last I heard he was looking good for the ENG series?

Too bad batting has been mediocre during the same phase which did not allow India to realize the full.potetnial.

That was the first series for Bumrah post injury. Pace was down. But batting was horrible once again.
NZ is our bogey team and they are better in English/NZ conditions. Also that was the greatest NZ team of all time.

Shaw and Agarwal as openers were poor. Our MO were going through terrible phase at the same time. Also India gifting wickets to new comers have become a pattern. Jamieson later Jansen
