An incredibly eventful day of Test cricket concludes. Following South Africa winning the toss and choosing to bat, a total of 23 wickets tumbled. Siraj's six-wicket haul in a remarkable 9-over spell reduced the hosts to their lowest total since readmission.

Subsequently, India collapsed, losing their last six wickets for zero runs, going from 153/4 to 153 all out. Now, South Africa finds themselves three down in their second innings, still trailing by 36 runs.

The cricket has been unpredictable on this peculiar pitch, where the ball consistently rises sharply off a good length, particularly from the Wynberg end. Adding to the challenge, occasional deliveries are skidding low. Being a batter in such conditions is quite a task.

Despite the challenges, India is currently in a commanding position in the game, presenting a great opportunity for them to level the series.

Must restrict SA with as little score as possible (going by the way Markram is playing this will be an arduous task itself).

Chasing anything over 50 against SA's quality bowling on this minefield of a track will be too challenging for our clueless batters (maybe except for Kohli).

Hope we get the much-needed win!

Match going to end in morning session .
Depends. One more heavy roller in the morning, the pitch will become a little easier to bat.

If SA can somehow score around 200 and set India target of about 100, they should be favs to win it.

This pitch is usually most difficult to bat on in the first session and dramatically eases out as the Test goes on. Let’s see how it plays, we may see a lot more runs today.

This is a joke of a game. Test cricket is already dying and SA made such a wicket that is the worst of the worst. South Africa is not taking tests serious anymore.

If we pick Markram early in the first session, we should walk to an easy win.

If South Africa don't lose early wickets then they are favorites... India are basically playing with 3 Batsmen (Kohli, Rohit & Gill... Jaiswal is not yet ready, KL Rahul cannot be counted in pressure games - we saw how spectacularly he performed in the WC Finals!)

Welcome to the final day of this 2 day test match between India and South Africa.

South Africa trail by 36 runs with 7 wickets in hand. India have the upper hand and are currently capable of winning this test match unless the pitch curator has applied a layer of concrete overnight.

South Africa now depend on rollers to win this match. They are actually capable of winning even with a lead of 70 runs as Indian batting looks extremely brittle.

But at this moment in the game India are on TOP.

This test is literally a 2-day test match. Looks like some sort of practice game.

No way is it a 55 or 155 run pitch. Poor batting by both teams. A lot of balls are short pitched that could be left but you have to be prepared to take hits to your body and play a gutsy innings. Late 90s aus played sa on a similar green pitch in sa and Steve Waugh played a gutsy know. He took so many body blows his body was bruised all over. Aus won that game . They just were bloody minded and gutsy. The batsmen in this test from both teams are not willing to do that and fight it out.

Easy way out to blame the pitch. It's nowhere close to the abandoned test late 90s at the Sabina Park Kingston in WI in the WI vs eng test. That was unplayable and dangerous. Go check out the highlights of it. This pitch is not even remotely comparable to that pitch..

Ok Prediction Time!

South Africa 225 (I assume the pitch curaor will perform his magic)
India will look like chasing easily but will have dramatic collapse and lose.

(Its actually easier to predict Indian victory, but I like to go against popular expectations)

hopefully 150-156 all out for Saf loading but will need early strikes from Bumrah & Siraj . If they are still batting at lunch , game over for visitors !

Heavy roller being used. India's coach, Rahul Dravid, is watching it keenly

g'day P'Pers - first blood to jazz boom...need to get Aiden markram early - but good start by our guys

67/4 is not a score that you would like to see on the board, but the pitch is so bad that it will soon be over.

first over wicket hmmm

68-4 now. Why Mukesh and not SIraj?

If India wins this, we can play the decider from tomorrow. Players will be fresh and on this deck we can easily play 2 more tests in the next 3 days.

No, it IS that tough. Cricviz rated day 1 as the toughest day 1 batting conditions since ball tracking data became available(2006 onwards) . This is the toughest pitch of the last 2 decades

Ridiculous uneven bounce. Saffers have outdone themselves. This is worse than Wanderers 2017/18

Don't just watch the wicket taking deliveries, see what happened around them, in the leadup to those dismissals. This is the kind of pitch where Angelo Mathews or Ganguly's pace bowling will make peak Viv Richards dance like Michael Jackson.

Just bowl on the wicket and let uneven bounce do the trick

Because of heavy roller, pitch will play better for some time. Also don't know what SA curators must have done overnight.

Markram is the key here. If he can somehow play out today, SA will find themselves in good position.

Don't want us to chase more than 50 in 4th innings on this pitch.

Mukesh Kumar has gifted Saffers half their total runs ...lol..

What's the total India can be expect to chase successfully? Anything over 60 is insurmountable.

Rohit has mentally checked out as a test bat. Kohli is trying his best but he's lost the mojo. KL is done playing his one obligatory inning for the series. Gill and Shubman still finding their bearings. Iyer is not a test batsman's shadow.

And we saw India's tail starting with Jaddu yesterday. Just like a W00W0WW0W.

Collectively, they can reach 60 but not guaranteed, they might also break their record of 36 at Adelaide.

Will be great to defeat SA by an innings!

Team handicapped because of Prasidh's selection. Could have selected an extra batsman. Even Jadeja is a useless selection in hindsight.

On this kind of nonsense pitch, always go with extra batting options. No need of 5 bowlers here because 1 will always be underbowled, in fact here we have used only 3 bowlers.

Spin is also useless, even Shane Warne or Murali won't get a bowl on these surfaces.

No hindsight. Jadeja is a freeloader in all formats for quite a few years now.
Keep Jadeja only for home tests but even there SLA Axar is closing the gap. Kuldeep doesn't even get selected, Sundar is another guy but he is more of a batting all rounder.

True.

Jadeja should not be an automatic selection in all formats any longer.

Keep a third man Rohit, too many runs being leaked there.

Markram holding strong.

48*

These are the pitches where if you score a 100 or a big 50 they are held in much higher regard than other giant scores on flat pitches.

In their bid to be over attacking in tests, quite a few teams ignore this important fielding position and don't station any fielder there. Indian team have been guilty of this practice for long now.

Markram in sarfaroshi ki tamanna mode ... 75 more runs & game over !!!

Edged for four...

to third man.... where Rohit refuses to place a fielder :tahir2

Saffers need 70 more to feel safe. My guess is they'd give a target of 150+ to India who'll fold for 50.

Great catch that was from Bumrah in his follow through!
