South Africa had a remarkable day! Any thoughts on reconsidering that retirement, Dean? It seems unnecessary when you're timing the ball so well. Dean played a superb and confident innings, maintaining control despite the challenges posed by the new ball bowlers. Although South Africa lost Markram early, de Zorzi and Elgar navigated through the initial pace burst and capitalized on the opportunities when the auxiliary pacers entered the attack.
Shardul struggled on a pitch seemingly tailored for his seam bowling, and Prasidh had issues with his lengths. Post Lunch, scoring became easier for South Africa as the pitch flattened out. A returning Bumrah spell did yield a couple of wickets, but South Africa consolidated with a 131-run partnership between debutant Bedingham and Elgar. The new player reached a fifty before Siraj dismissed him with a straight one, and Verreynne also fell cheaply.
Jansen came in and handled the next few overs, with Elgar appearing ever so confident at the other end. South Africa will go to bed quite pleased, while India has quite a bit of catching up to do tomorrow.
