What's new

India [163/3] beat New Zealand [156/9] by 7 runs in the 5th T20I, win series 5-0

Forget super over, the very thought of playing 19&20 overs giving nightmares to NZ now.

After scoring 34 in 10th over, NZ has lost 5 wickets and scored only 33 runs in 43 balls. They only needed 66 from 60 balls.

Excellent captaincy by Rahul thus far. Calm, composed and great field changes. The bowlers look focused too cause Rahul is giving them that space.

Make him the regular captain in T20s and Rohit in ODIs. Let the clown take care of Tests only.

We are talking performances on the field in specific format. I am pretty sure Dube has also smoked lot of sixes in Domestic, IPL and in A tours. So there is no question in his ability too. What you do in the international cricket is what matters. And you can’t slate Dube and then hype up Hardik who hasn’t done much than him in the same format. It takes lot of time to develop a hard-hitting all-rounder.

Averages at No. 6 doesn't matter for a top heavy side like India where 80% of the time top 1-4 will play most of the balls.

Hardik Pandya is needed for quick fire cameo and though he hasn't set international T20 on fire a set , we all have seen his hitting ability in all 3 formats and more than useful bowling. So, he is India''s No.1 T20 allrounder.

One final good 19th over from bumrah will seal this for India. NZ self-destruction mode on - over 19&20.

No Dhoni does not smack any bowler in IPL. No need to invent facts to defend the mediocrity that is Dhoni in T20s.

Don't believe me? Look up Dhoni's IPL number.
Lol. Are you sure you’re talking about same IPL 2019 where Dhoni averaged 83 and has a highest score of 84?
He has way better overall stats than Hardik Sobers in the last 4 years in IPL when he was finished in international cricket.😂😂😂

Really loving the fact that Dube got exposed with bowl and bat both and yet India might still win this.

So by that logic, Dhawan should be our number one T20 opener as he has showed his hitting in ODIs.😂😂😂

Pandya is a solid player to have in your team. T20 stats shouldn't be taken as the be all and end all of everything.

Really a mental block , 50 (30) from one batsman. 34 off one over, 55 from 50 and still managing to lose.

How? Do you have the same opinion on Dhawan and Dhoni too in T20?

Dhoni apart from 20th over rarely takes off in T20. He needs a lot more time at the crease. Dhawan never plays quickly after power play. Pandya can produce big overs.

This team and squad are pathetic.

If heads don't roll, I'm going to be ******.

They're bloody shot, stop bloody picking duds and players who have zero confidence.

This match is a win win for India. That Dubey's 34 run over is invaluable for India in the long run

Thakur is such a ..... Player...he knows what sodhi is trying to do and still bowls in his swiping zone.

‘Can’ means Nothing unless you actually produce it on field.

I'm already dreaming of a whitewash in the ODI and Test series too. Maybe it's too early.

How in the hell does NZ keep finding ways to lose matches from super comfortable situations?

This is crazy!

5-0 to India!

Considering NZ has been bogey team for us in this format, this is quite huge.

Third successive game where NZ have pulled defeat from the jaws of victory. Seems like that Australian series really knocked the soul out of them.

Probably would be a good thing, the team needs to be rebuilt in all formats for the next WC and Test cycle.

Our selectors are like Pakistan's persisting with TTFs and keeping seniors around.

Learnings from the series

Dube is so trash that it makes Binny look good.Should be binned until he improves a long way

Rahul is decent captaincy option

Chahal is done.Kuldeep must be tried

Samson and Pant are talented but not performing.I wonder why they dropped Karthik who used to be good in this format?

Desperately crying out for a rebuild and investing in young players but nope, more TTFs who aren't good enough for international cricket and senior players hanging around too long.

‘Can’ means Nothing unless you actually produce it on field.

He has scored 310 runs in 210 balls at a strike rate of 147 in 25 innings. That is an average of just over 8 balls per match. lol Are you expecting him to score a 50s and 100s from that position? Be realistic man. Don't be stuck on highest score theory. There is no logic in it

NZ team is mentally shot... First, the Australia series & now this! Happy to be proven wrong, but i really doubt whether it can face the ODIs & Tests now.

3 chokes on the trot for NZ.
Hope India is more tighter than this in ODI series as that NZ team may have better batsmen and the match-winning boult. As for captaincy, Rahul is 2nd best after Rohit as captain, in my opinion. But Kohli will remain the captain & not stop selecting "extraordinary" players.

Oh no NZ again messed up disappointing for us fans.. Anyway well played india 5 zip..Saini is a positive find this tour for india. not much from others though

Kane williamosn and Kohli were chatting the whole match. Looks like NZ is favorite team of INdian team off the field

Playing XI for first ODI now.

Rohit
Shaw
Kohli
Iyer
Rahul(wkt)
______
Jadeja
Thakur/Saini
Kuldeep
Shami
Bumrah

Hopefully not Dube and also not Jadhav plz.

Becoming cricket's biggest chokers are NZ.

Clueless cricket.

Biggest positive from this series is Shivam Dube's performances. If he gets selected ever again, I might lose hope in humanity. Samson is alright, he will fight his way back to the team some day. But Shrardul is here to stay for a longer run, this gives me a nightmare.

yes - dube, shardul give nightmares to their own fans and that tells the quality of selections.

Biggest positive of this match is Dubey's 34 run over. Hope we see the last of him. What a pie chucker

Who is the third guy with Kohli & Williamson?

Very handsome complements from Kohli to Williamson. They go a long way back. Since they faced off in under-19 semi final they have come a long way.

India last T20 series away in SENA countries

won 2-1 against SA
won 2-1 Against England
drew1-1 against Australia
won 5-0 vs NZ

Yes he picks and chooses which bowlers.to target in IPL. He goes usually against mediocre domestic trundlers

Kohli about Kane Williamson

"Kane and me have similar mindsets, similar philosophies. It is amazing that despite being from different parts of the world, we have similar thinking and we speak the same language. Despite what the scoreline suggests, I feel that New Zealand cricket is in the best hands and he is the right guy to lead this team. He is the perfect, perfect man to lead them. I wish him the best of luck and power to lead this side in the future. They are a side everyone loves to watch and play against."

Haha... was that really Kohli? He usually comes from the Dhoni mold - never praise the opposition!

That is not pretension I think, they both played from U-19 level and if anyone wants to dethrone Kohli in the ranking any Indian would want Williamson I think - the past and present teams of NZ have always been very gracious most of the time.

On a lighter note, it's been hilarious listening to the NZ commentators, clearly desperate for a win, going "NZ should cruise from here" in each of the last three games. You'd think they would have learned their lesson by the third game.

Ye SENA SENA kya hae?

In T20i cricket , the two greatest teams in tje world are (1) Pakistan followed by India.

SENA was never a benchmark to evaluate T20 greatness.

Pakistan is no longer great T20 team ( 8 loss out of 9 ) in 2019 doesn't warrant that.

Currently the top three teams are Aus, India and Eng.

West Indies are no 1. Pakistan and India can fight for the 2d spot

They are ranked 10th below Afghanistan, SL, Bangladesh. You cannot judge them based on their once in a bluemoon shock performances. They have a rubbish bowling unit.

Rohit Sharma’s impressive half-century and stunning bowling performances by pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Navdeep Saini led India to a 7–run win over New Zealand in the 5th T20I at Mount Maunganui on Sunday. The victory on Sunday made India the first full ICC member to win a T20I series 5-0. This was India’s 8th T20I victory on the trot – their best winning-run in the history of the shortest format of the game.

Batting first, Rohit Sharma’s 60-run innings took India to 163 for 3 – a total considered to be slightly below par on the placid track. But just the previous two T20Is, Indian bowlers made the total bigger than it actually was to restrict New Zealand to 156 for 9.

On Sunday, however, India struck early through Jasprit Bumrah, who dismissed Martin Guptill in the second over. Washington Sundar, then got the important wicket of Colin Munro in the following over when the left-hander went for a big heave. The problems for New Zealand multiplied when a horrible mix-up between Bruce and Munro gave India their third wicket, reducing New Zealand to 17 for 3 in 3.2 overs

Ross Taylor and Tim Seifert did a fine job from there on to not only bring New Zealand back in the game but also to take their noses in front. Seifert and Taylor hit Shivam Dube for 34 runs in the 10th over – the most expensive over bowled by an Indian bowler – to take control of the match.

Another twist in the tale came when stand-in captain KL Rahul – Rohit Sharma did not take the field after being retired hurt with a calf injury – brought Navdeep Saini into the attack in the 13th over. Saini got the important wicket of Tim Sefiert for 50 off 30 balls and in the following over, Bumrah gave away only 3 runs and cleaned up Daryl Mitchell for 2.

Taylor did his best with his 53 off 47 balls but when Saini got his wicket in the 18th over, the game’s balance shifted towards India completely. Ish Sodhi did hit a couple of sixes off Shardul Thakur but 21 runs in the last over was a bit too much to get.

Bumrah was declared Player of the Match for his 3/12 in 4 overs. He was ably supported by Saini, who finished with 2 for 23.

Earlier, Rohit had to retire hurt on 60 off 41 deliveries (3x3, 3x3) after he suffered from cramps and initially decided to continue, only to soon realise he can no longer run.

But the dashing opener, batting at No.3, led from the front in the absence of Virat Kohli who was rested along with K.L. Rahul whose purple patch continued as he made 45 off 33 balls (4x4, 2x6) as India posted a challenging total.

For the Kiwis, regular captain Kane Williamson, who did not play the last T20I also due to a shoulder niggle, decided not to risk himself with Tim Southee leading in this game too.

India lost Sanju Samson early, the Kerala batsman letting go of another opportunity to impress the team management as he managed just two runs from five balls before being caught by Mitchell Santner off Scott Kuggeleijn who was the pick of the bowlers with 2/25.

Samson had failed in the last match too after being given a chance to open the batting which is his preferred position.

Rohit and Rahul then joined hands for a 88-run second wicket stand which formed the bedrock of India’s innings as they reached 84/1 at the halfway stage.

Rahul missed out on a half century as he fell to leading edge off Hamish Bennett with Santner taking a simple catch at cover.

Rohit brought up his 21st T20 fifty in 35 balls and looked good for a big one but he was starved of the strike by the brilliant Bennett as he made Shreyas Iyer work hard for runs in the 14th over. Rohit then suffered from cramps and had to give up eventually after not being able to run.

In the final five overs, India lacked the power hitting as Iyer laboured to an unbeaten 33 off 31 balls. All-rounder Shivam Dube failed again, holing out to Tom Bruce at long on off Kuggeleijn for just five.

In the end, Manish Pandey hit a 4-ball 11 to take India to 163/3.

1. Pandya is a way better bowler. Both play as the 5th bowler - at least the 6th option for Dube. Pandya gives decent 4 overs @ an ER of 8.35, whereas Dube's ER is greater than 10!!! Pandya Wins by a HUGE margin.

2. Dube hasn't achieved anything with the bat yet. He averages 17 to Pandya's 16. But Pandya's SR is higher by 10. No Difference here

3. Of the innings that Dube has batted, he has played 66% of his matches at no.3 and no.5. (4 out of 9 at no.5). Pandya on the other hand has batted 90% of the times at 5, 6 or 7. (only 10 out of 25 at 3,4,5).
I would expect the batsman getting a chance to bat at 3,4,5 to do a much better job than the one batting at 5,6,7 mostly.
SO, now Pandya wins by a slight margin.

Now, you might say that Dube has only batted in 9 innings to prove anything conclusively. Then we will need to look at domestic T20 figures. And there is only 1 winner there.

So, yes Dube makes Pandya look like Immy.

Are we really putting Pandya and Shivam aka, 'Yuvraj' Dube in the same sentence?

India have been fined 20 per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against New Zealand in the fifth and final Twenty20 International in Tauranga on Sunday.

Chris Broad of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after Rohit Sharma’s side was ruled to be one over short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration.

In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 20 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

Sharma pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing.On-field umpires Chris Brown and Shaun Haig, and third umpire Ashley Mehrotra leveled the charge.

The poster dingolfy was suggesting Pandya is not much better than Dube. Just putting that claim straight.
I know Pandya is quite overrated. I'd still take an injured Pandya over a fully fit Dube.

Poor from us. However, till when will we be stuck with Chris Broad? He has been haunting us forever, lol....
