What's new

India (385/9) complete a 3-0 whitewash by defeating New Zealand (295) by 90 runs in the 3rd ODI

If both these batsmen can stay another 7-8 overs, NZ will win it with overs to spare

Great over from Umran, just 2 off it and Conway's wicket.

India will lose it if this pair stays for 5 more overs. Can't defend totals here with this bowling unit.

Kuldeep shows up serial match loser Chahal once more.

What is the point of Chahal anymore? Shouldn't they groom Bishnoi?
Bishnoi should have been playing international cricket for over 2 years now. But team management can't see beyond Chahal for some reason.

Chahal has proved his uselessness in so many different ways. Can't bat even above Umran. Can't even be used as sub fielder. He has developed a nice rapport with the captains.

This kind of incompetence will cost us big in tight matches.

We become no.1.

But I think there is no number 1 in LoIs except for England. They are miles ahead of every other team in both LoI formats.

India have leapt to the top of the MRF Tyres ICC Men's ODI Team Rankings following their win over New Zealand in the third and final ODI on Tuesday.

India’s victory over New Zealand in Indore completed a clean sweep in the three-match ODI series.

They won the first ODI, a high-scoring thriller at Hyderabad by 12 runs, while their seamers helped them to an eight-wicket win at Raipur in the second game.

And the third and final win means they have now moved to the summit of the Men’s ODI Rankings.

A brilliant 212-run opening stand between Rohit Sharma (101) and Shubman Gill (112) set India up for a giant first-innings score of 385/9 in the first innings in Indore.

A late flurry from Hardik Pandya (54) and Shardul Thakur (25) helped boost the total, and the pair also played a key role with the ball.

Pandya bowled dangerous opener Finn Allen with just the second delivery of the chase, and Thakur picked up three quickfire wickets in the middle overs – including two in two balls – to effectively end New Zealand’s chances.

Even a stunning century from Kiwi opener Devon Conway wasn’t enough to deny India the win.

England, who had gained the top spot merely three days back following New Zealand’s loss to India in the second ODI, are now in second position, with New Zealand slipping to fourth spot.

Prior to Tuesday’s game, all three sides had been tied on 113 points, with their overall points the deciding differential.

But the latest result means that India are now first with 114 rating points, England sit at the second spot with 113 rating points, while Australia move up into third place with their 112 rating points. New Zealand have 111 rating points.

If England manage to win their upcoming ODI series against South Africa 3-0, they’ll displace India as the table toppers in the Men’s ODI rankings.

They are not exceptional in ODIs. Not at present. Australia look like they are going to be a threat to everyone. Early favourites for mine.

7 batsman enough to put good score and SKY should be there because india lacks power hitter
7 batsmen tactics is outdated in these days of relentless hitting as proved by India after they crawled to the end in multiple matches.

SKY is not an ODI player. Just a glorified T20 hack

Will be interesting to see his batting in tests. :inti

It’s not like we have good ARs who can bat and bowl. The option is choosing 5 good bats + 3 good bowlers + 2 halwa ARs(Thakur, Sundar, who still has long term potential) + 1 good AR (Jadeja). I would always go for proper bats even though they may bat till 7 and 4 proper bowlers who I know can bowl well.

The team for me would be
Rohit
Gill
Kohli
Iyer
Rahul (wk) or another wk bat
Pandya
Jadeja
Siraj
Bumrah
Kuldeep
Umran

Batting is indeed weak. I would still expect the top 4 to win more often than not. But the bowling is strong. We also have Jadeja and Pandya to cover if a bowler has an off day.

The options are as follows
1. Play a batsman instead of Umran - weakens our bowling as we no longer have batsmen who can tweak their arms, like Sehwag, Sachin or Raina. One bowler has an off day and we are done.
2. Play Thakur instead of Umran - we lose a lot with the ball, without getting much with the bat.

It’s not like we have a stokes hiding in our Ranji. We have to work with these. If Pandya was more dependable, this would be a strong XI

I am not saying we need ARs. We need bowlers who can handle bat and tonk when required. Like Harbhajan, Irfan Pathan etc. At the moment after the fall of 6th wicket, India is left with 4 number 11s. That is not good.

Ideally there should be batsmen who can bowl a little and bowlers who can bat a little. Pakistans No 11 is Nasim Shah and he has won match with his bat.

India playing so good other teams should learn specially Pakistan

New number 1 team :14:

Rohit captaincy also very good

India have so much talent

Not really.

Aussies bash teams at home, not away.

Since last ODI WC, they won 11/13 of their home games. OTOH, they could win 8/20 of their away games.

So over a period of 3.5 years, they have mostly been home bullies.

Lets see if they can change this during upcoming ODI WC.

Kishan will remain backup opener.

Shreyas Iyer has his place safe now considering the failures of SKY in this series.

Rahul will bat at 5 and Sanju Samson PR will have to invest themselves on Twitter for hyping him and criticising KL again. :inti

India's most probable squad :

Top order - Rohit, Gill, Kishan, kohli
Middle order - Shreyas, KL
All rounders - Pandya, Jadeja, Sundar
Fast bowlers - Bumrah, Shami, Siraj, Umran
Spinners - Kuldeep, Chahal

That's 15 already :viru

Now, reserves :

SKY/Samson
Axar Patel
S Thakur( or Prasidh if he makes a comeback)

In 18, inspite of Pant absence, only one of SKY or Samson can make it. In 15, neither can make it.

Fair point. But don’t think we have those resources. Either a bowler who could bat, like Zak, Bhajji and Kumble, or batsman who could bowl a few like Sachin, Sehwag and Raina.

We need to play with what we have and that leaves us with halwa allrounders to create balance or go with a heavy batting or bowling with the other suit being a little weaker.

Have a feeling that they might replace one of Umran or Sundar with Thakur. If they need to bring in Thakur, I would rather they kick out Chahal.

Also, might need another MO replacement in the XV, but can’t think of a decent MO bat.

They won away in England in 2020. And yes they have bashed everyone at home. But to be honest, England could not beat IND, OZ, SA even at home and lost to both OZ and India away and could not beat SA away either.

They are slightly past their best as an ODI outfit and look there for the taking.
