What's new

India [497/9d] beat South Africa [162,133] by an innings & 202 runs to win 3rd Test; Win series 3-0

Jadeja is most surprising cricketer i have seen. I didn't think he will be a good test bowler but he became one. I gave up on his batting ever becoming good enough and it has.

Day 2: Tea Break

Must be depressing if you are a SA fan!

Look away SA supporters and fans.. look away

Keep your TVs switched off

Lucky that it's bad light otherwise Indian pacers looked set to blow them away today itself

I think i have said this earlier, Ashwin and Jadeja feel at ease when Saha is keeping. Pant fans might have to wait for overseas tour.

SHARMA AND RAHANE CONTINUE TO CALL TUNE FOR INDIA

Sunday, 20 October 2019

INDIA had a near perfect second day to the final Freedom Series Test match against the Standard Bank Proteas at Ranchi on Sunday when Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane both achieved further personal landmarks and the home side then dismissed both the South African opening batsmen cheaply.

Their only disappointment for India would have been the fact that most of the final session was again lost to bad light, but the home side still held an overwhelmingly strong position, having declared at 497/9 and then reduced the Proteas to 9/2 by the early close.

India scored 133 in the morning session and a further 111 in the second.

Rahane achieved his 11th career Test century before being dismissed for 115 (192 balls, 17 fours and a six) and having extended the fourth wicket record partnership with Sharma against South Africa to 267.

But Sharma was not finished and shared a further partnership of 64 for the fifth wicket with Ravendar Jadeja en route to his maiden double century in this format, having previously made double centuries in white ball cricket as well. It also took his series aggregate past the 500-run mark.

He finally fell to Kagiso Rabada for 212 (255 balls, 28 fours and 6 sixes).

There were several useful partnerships to follow from the lower order including a 13th career half-century from Jadeja.

The two South African debutants had something to celebrate with George Linde take 4/133 in 31 overs and Heinrich Klaasen having a hand in four dismissals including a stumping.

Rabada, the pick of the attack, finished with 3/85 in 23 overs.

Remarkably, the innings included as many as 13 sixes.

There was only time for 5 overs before the early close with the two seamers, Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav, being allowed only one each before spin had to take over in deteriorating light but it was enough for each to claim a wicket to make the mountain for the Proteas to climb look steeper than ever.

Good batting by our guys...but we've always had that...enough of that.....
What really warms this pace bowling afficianado's heart is the way umesh and shami bowled, wowzer....
Any one reading the scoreboard of this test and the of the previous test would think the same stereotyped tired perception-indian batting piling on the runs and indian spinners taking 18 out of 20 wickets.....on typical square turners - low inconsistent bounce wicket-dust bowls etc...but hang on.......the Poona wicket was one of the best seen in real times...it had consistent bounce and the keeper was taking them at shoulder height even on the last day.....this was like the wicket at Dharmshala -4th test agains aus-2017-true bouncy and victories won in such wickets are super sweet and i hope they make such wickets as the template for future series....cheers india....go our pacemen

Dare i say ball of the series. Superb ball from Umesh knocked over Faf. He covered the line. But ever so late movement clipped the off stump 16/3

Bavuma being short will have serious issues with full balls. I am bewildered that he is stuck at the crease for full balls. Many shorter players have adjusted beautifully.

Shaun Pollock was saying that even though India had lost 2-1 in SA, they at least took 20 SA wickets, all 3 times. And here SA hasn't taken all 10 Indian wickets in an innings even once!

Apart from the first test, India were competitive in last 2 tests, even winning the last test on conditions which should've been alien to them.

SA hasn't been competitive enough in this series (save when we were 3/39 in the first innings of this test) even once.

That's Umesh's problem area... Just too much of a spray gun....

Body language of incoming batsman is like " now I have to complete the formality". They have already surrendered.

Wheels are coming off !

Won't be surprised if this game ends by lunch tomorrow.

Pathetic

Not sure what they expected after the humiliating SL test series loss, at home no less. By the looks of things it's going to be quite some time before they look like an actual team again. I'll keep watching and supporting though. No use hiding.

SA is playing like a minnow. Home series loss to SRL, dismal WC performance, one sided present test series... I don't recognize this SA team...

Where is Ishant Sharma?

You guys need the likes of zubayr, the malan brothers and markram to step up. Bavuma and de bruyn are rubbish .

They are rebuilding. i have no doubt they will bounce back in SENA countries.

hamza is a phenomenal talent
nortje serious potential

there is rudi second, malaan and Kyle verryene.

All waiting in the wings.

india is just too good. they make a strong team look bad.

Ashwin as usual bowling all kinds of rubbish variations when not getting wickets.

It happens, every team goes through a transitional phase. You need to give them time. Look at the players who SA have lost in the last few years:
1. ABD - One of the best players ever to play the game.
2. Amla - A top notch player
3. Steyn - Can be argued as the GOAT test bowler. In top 10 for sure.
4. Morkel - Top quality bowler

On top of that, Philander is on his last legs, Faf is also on other side of 30. It will be a travesty if SA cricket goes SL/Pak/WI way. A strong SA team is a must for world cricket. Every neutral will be supporting SA to bounce back in next few years time.

They will bounce back for sure. This same team would beat many top teams even now at home. the Sri Lanka series was a one off fluke.

I have never seen so many bowleds in tests when Indian fast bowlers are bowling, as i have seen in the last few years

because they are the best in the world. This is btw without bumrah the best bowler in all formats. Cummins isn't as good as him in any format. Rankings are rubbish. You can see who has more of a fear factor. bumrah's fear factor is significantly higher.

2015 was a drubbing.

This is on a whole another level. Don't even know what to call this.

Not long to go at this rate

Elgar looks seriously injured after that bouncer, hope he is ok

Yea but they did most of the batting on first day which is the best time to bat, the pitch can deteriorate dramatically, specially in subcontinent conditions.

This is not day 5. And on top of that it has rained both the days, so pitch won't deteriorate as much.

So you think SA failed in this series due to pitches? Agree to disagree then....

India are on a completely different level to other teams at the moment.

The Proteas will be scarred for a long long time after this nightmarish tour.
Considering current state of their cricket, its gonna get only downhill from here.

I ponder how the English or the Aussie's full strength side would fare in India at this moment.

I think Bangladesh is going to compete better than this hapless Saffers team when they come over next month. I hope they win both the tosses. This is getting boring.

we must not forget this is the same saffas team that just got whitewashed by sri lankans at home

Not pitches but Saffas would definitely put some fight or even won a match if they managed to win a toss or two
India lost 4 tosses to a much stronger England side at home and still gave them a phainta 4 0. toss doesn't matter in india. reverse swing, spinners quality and batting depth matters.

toss matters only in australia, south africa and England. basically sena countries. It's hard for those fans to accept the truth but unfortunately that is a fact which cant be subverted.

in australia, you win the toss bat first no matter what.

in England generally the same applies. South Africa too.

New Zealand is tricky. sometimes when you bat first in those stormy conditions chances are you could be all out for under 100 lol.
