That was an unexplainable freak match. I still don't know how we folded like that.

Yeah, as a kid, I thought our big players- Sachin, Saurav and Rahul will also score a lot of runs as we were mostly batting heavy side but what I saw was really shocking.

IMO at the end of his career

1. Siraaj
2. Zaheer Khan
3. Kapil Dev
4. Shami

Pakistan can win if Shaheen and Haris gets early breakthroughs and restricts them to a low score. Then they might scrape a victory by seeing off the openers and playing spin carefully
In pressure games just don't choose to bowl first. EVER.

Always bat first in KOs. Yes we need early inroads. India have weak tail. Today I'm they have sundar at 8. So that is Intersting.

I remember playing in park league , once we got the oppposition out for like 60 runs and when we came to bat we reversed the batting order. Imagine if India did that , they might aswell lol

India tail batting is still not great. That's where early inroads is key.

Bumrah batting is nothing special. Siraj can't hold a bat and kuldeep is a poor batsman.

Their batting stops at 8.

Won the toss and elected to bat and absolute horrible show from Sri Lanka! What a disastrous one sided final ever in the history Asia cup.

The pain of embarrassment and humiliation that i carried for nearly 23 years has been avenged finally today as we dismiss Sri Lanka for 50 in Asia Cup final.

That night my heart was broken as an upcoming kid in cricket fandom. I had actually quit watching cricket for a few months until a day a special player from Hyderabad hit 281 runs following on against the #1 juggernaut team.

That kid in me, feels avenged today.

yeah. That match I saw as a kid and I cried for a couple of days. Finally avenged..

Good on ya m8....finally some praise out of you for VK!
You may check last page of his thread. I praised his running between wickets which was so awesome that even a several years younger Rahul was feeling breathless at times.

The SL groundstaff were on the field longer in this tournament than SL's batsmen today.

Indian seam bowling has performed consistently for a long time and they've let their performances do the talking unlike our guys who can't help beating their own drums.

cool, good to see appreciation and recognition of that factor which a lot do not recognize...

Let's be honest India's pace attack was struggling in the abscence of Bhumra and Siraj. They finally have the trio of Bhumra, Shami, Siraj together along with the reliable Hardhik Pandya as back up. These 4 are right up there with the best pace attack in the world

If we mess this chase up from here, it will be pretty special effort or el nino global warming in reverse kicking in...

I think India were shaken after Sanath Jayasuriya's innings.

He ruined a lot of childhoods. There was some ODI in Singapore vs PAK where SL were 70-1 and his opening partner Kaluwitharana was dismissed for 0 :ROFLMAO:

Yes I think that was an era, a 300sh total pretty much meant game over and 300 on a Sharjah track meant even more. It’s like seeing a mammoth total of 400 in a tournament final these days. We were completely shaken after that deadly knock from Jayasuriya. What a champion he was.

I was glad he didn’t hit a 200 that night.

Indian batting with sky

But shami is old now. Don't think he should be their third bowler. Yea rhe other 2 are class. Pandya is getting better.

They may have to bring praaidh and see if he develops or someone else.

I would say aus and England are slightly ahead in pace department.

And indian tail is long. Siraj cant bat. Neither can kuldeep. Bumrah also just mediocre at batting.

yeah i think that the record for fastest century at that time.. which Afridi later broke.
I saw that match live. He cut and pull Wasim and Waqar of all to all parts of the ground. Singer Cup I believe?

Those were the embarrassing days when SL use to maul us every next match . Indian team of 1999-2000 was easily one of the worst ever
I guess one reason India's record against SL at that time was our bowling was majorly inept in Asian conditions. I don't think we played in SENA countries that often against SL, there I feel Indian bowlers would not have been so meekly surrendering against Jayasuriya and co

Shambolic

You simply shouldn't be playing an ODI tournament in a country and on grounds at a time of year when the weather plays havoc...
and I'm not just talking about overs being reduced etc, but the atmospheric and changes which makes batting difficult, changes the complex of the pitch when from one innings to the other.

Prasidh is a good bowler. he can bowl fast and generate steep bounce. Very uncomfortable to play him.

In right condition India can be a handful. Bumrah terrorized England with his 6 for 19 at the oval last year. That side had Jason Roy, Bairstow, Root, STokes, Buttler, Livingstone, Moeen, David willey.

Quick story about Sanath.

In 2015, PAK toured SL and Sanath was hired by PTV Sports as a guest on their show. Sanath may have even been SL's Chief Selector.

Dr Niaz was hosting with Saqlain I think as the other guest. Anyway they start chatting at length in Urdu so Sanath pulls his phone out live on air (professionalism zindabad).

Now the size of Sanath's forearms and hands were ridiculous. I mean you could barely see the phone. I thought no wonder this guy generated such power. He sometimes treated our pacers like spinners.

We hear this stuff about Bazball and T20 now, but this guy was ahead of his time.

India showing why they are a strong contender for the World Cup, Sri Lankan seam bowlers aren’t as good but let’s see what they can come up with

Some guys have huge forearms

Hayden
Aaron Finch
Jayasuriya

Among the current Markram.

Coming back to the 54 all out disaster. We did pretty well in 1998 but then 1999, 2000 were dark years for Indian cricket both inside and outside the field, also the time when fixing saga exploded and public turned against the cricket team. Players couldn't even trust each other, then Dada came and fightback started with the 2001 Border Gavaskar series, more specifically the Laxman-Dravid mammoth partnership in Eden Gardens.

Most of the humiliation Indian cricket suffered were in those two years. Later in 2011-12 where we lost 0-8 in England, Australia and also dropped a test series at home for the first time in 8 years.

Everybody who talks about Sanath always mentions his huge forearms. He was an absolute beast in his prime, raw power which very few since him have been able to emulate.

To be honest PTV Sports is run very unprofessionally. Many foreign stars complained about the program being held in Urdu and that they would not be able to properly participate. Jonty Rhodes who was invited once looked very visibly annoyed and clearlyg gave the impression he wanted his cheque and to leave.

Jayasuriya was a terrifying name for all back in the day. Log naam sun mar hi durr jaaate thhhe. He had intensity in his eyes while batting as if he could kill a guy with his bare hands.

Hitman resting himself and promoting young Ishan Kishan to open with Gill.

I love this team’s spirit

Jayasuriya ruined his legacy by dragging his career. He should have called it a day after the 2007 ODI WC or the 2018 Asia Cup but the guy stubbornly refused to retire and his output declined very embarrassingly to the point that Sangakkara, Jaywardene had to make it very clear to the selectors that they didn't want him in the team. Jayasuriya had applied political pressure in order to be allowed to play a farewell game for Sri Lanka in 2013. Shameful stuff.
