Two top American nuclear experts have said that India's nuclear strategy is experiencing a shift as it is now modernising its nuclear arsenal with a focus on China rather than its traditional rival Pakistan, Times of India reported.

"India is estimated to have produced approximately 600 kilograms of weapon-grade plutonium sufficient for 150–200 nuclear warheads," read an article by American nuclear experts Hans Kristensen and Robert Norris published in digital journal Bulletin of Atomic Sciences' July/August issue.

"While India has traditionally been focused on deterring Pakistan, its nuclear modernisation indicates that it is putting increased emphasis on its future strategic relationship with China," they said.

"The two-stage, solid-fuel, rail-mobile Agni-2, an improvement on the Agni-1, can deliver a nuclear or conventional warhead more than 2,000 km," the article said, adding that the targeting of the arsenal is "probably focused on western, central, and southern China."

The article stated that India was also developing Agni-3, 4 and 5, adding that the extra range of Agni-5 will allow "the Indian military to establish Agni-5 bases in central and southern India, further away from China."

Waste of money. They'll never nuke China knowing they have even better ones as well. Frustrated India is acting all strange now.

Worked well in 1962....

Worked well in 1962....
All of us know that india had superiority over china in airforce still india dont know why didnt even used it. Nehru congress policies are also we can never know why they did many things in past. Though china was well prepared and equipped too in 1962. The country who invade and start war is always well prepared . This will not be case this time for sure.
china and india both wud be destroyed plus pakistan ko b le dubenge so both countries cant go to war.

I am sure China is shivering in their boots from the Almighty supa powa India.

True

You also have to admit/realize that the gap between China and India in 1962 was not even a fraction of what it is now (either economically or militarily)

We dnt need to admit as we all know its true that gap between china and india is huge at present. Still both countries have enough resources to defend themselves

The Chinese have nothing to fear from India in terms of weapons, nuclear or otherwise. For them the biggest headache is that India is a mature and functioning democracy. It offers what China can't -- freedom. China is clearly ahead in terms of economic development and military might. But India can catch up in 15-20 years. The Chinese can't catch up to what India has to offer, their entire edifice will come crumbling down. They can't let the world see their Bamboo Gulag and the terror they unleash on their own people.

Even during the cold war, the USSR was clearly superior to the US in terms of # of nuclear missiles etc. But the US won the war without a shot being fired.

You should've stopped there.

There was a debate here in the UK on Trident and whether it's worth spending money when people are using food banks. In India they have more dying of hunger and malnutrition than anywhere else in the world, yet they've funded a project that is effectively a phallus measuring contest in the region. It doesn't surprise me one bit

Guys lets stay on topic please instead of personal attacks.

Poor guys hoping China will attack India. It wont.India is well positioned to defend itself as it controls majority of the heights and China has limited attack capability from Tibet.

Ofcourse India is in no position to attack but very well positioned to defend its heights.

So this is a stalemate. Then again nobody is going to start a war because few posters on PP want it.

Noone is attacking anyone, China isn't vs India, India isn't vs Pakistan. All thanks to nukes.

Everyone should be thankful for nukes, otherwise South Asia would be a complete and utter mess. More so than even now.

Bhai main to wahi bol ria hoon.

Here people are hoping India will be crushed.

Haha, if only you could understand what you've written!

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today announced the development of "Mission Divyastra" -- an indigenously developed, highly advanced weapons system that alters the country's geopolitic position. The Agni-5 missile, developed by the defence research centre DRDO for over a decade, took its first flight today.

The new weapon system has Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology, which ensures that a single missile can deploy multiple war heads at different locations. This is a technology currently possessed by a handful of nations and with its test, India has joined a select group of nations, said government sources.

"Proud of our DRDO scientists for Mission Divyastra, the first flight test of indigenously developed Agni-5 missile with Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology,' PM Modi posted on X, formerly Twitter.

The system is equipped with indigenous Avionics systems and high accuracy sensor packages, which ensured that the re-entry vehicles reached the target points within the desired accuracy, sources said.

Pakistan have better missiles than these Agnis
If so (and I have no idea about it since it's not a topic that interests me in the least), it's nothing to be proud of.

I'm guessing the main purpose is nuclear weapon delivery or in other words, the end of humanity. Pointless nonsense for developing countries. Basic nuclear deterrence should be more than enough.

People talking about missiles as if they are sweets. If one lands near where you live no one will be alive to say anything more. That missile will not recognize the country it lands in or the culture or religion of it's victims. Indian ain't gonna nuke or even bomb China or Pak knowing the obvious retaliation. These missiles are like trophy's just to show off.

India carries out successful flight test of indigenous technology cruise missile

India on Thursday carried out a successful test flight of an indigenous technology cruise missile, according to a Defence Ministry statement.

India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation did a successful test flight of an Indigenous Technology Cruise Missile from the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur off the coast of Odisha state, the ministry said.

“During the test, all subsystems performed as per expectation … The flight of the missile was also monitored from the Su-30-Mk-I aircraft of the Indian Air Force,” the statement said.

It also said the missile followed the desired path using way point navigation and performed a very low altitude sea-skimming flight.

“This successful flight test has also established the reliable performance of the indigenous propulsion system,” the ministry added.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh called the successful development of “indigenous long-range subsonic cruise missile powered by indigenous propulsion” a “major milestone” for Indian defence research and development.

Indian space startup Agnikul launches country's second privately built rocket

India's Agnikul Cosmos launched its Agnibaan rocket for the first time on Thursday, powered by the only Indian rocket engine to use both gas and liquid fuel in the country's second flight of a privately built rocket.

The Agnibaan's first flight had been called off four times in the last two months because of technical issues. The most recent cancellation was Tuesday, when launch was aborted five seconds before lift-off.

On Thursday, the customisable, two-stage launch vehicle designed to carry a payload of up to 300 kg (661 lb) into an orbit of about 700 kilometres' altitude (435 miles) flew for two minutes to a maximum altitude, or apogee, of 8,076 metres before splashing down into the ocean.

"All the mission objectives of this controlled vertical ascent flight were met and performance was nominal," the company said.

The South Asian nation's space agency, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), has not successfully flown a rocket with a so-called "semi-cryogenic" engine.

"A major milestone, as the first-ever controlled flight of a semi-cryogenic liquid engine realized through additive manufacturing," ISRO said on social media platform X.

The suborbital flight on Thursday was meant to test the new engine and 3D-printed parts.
Pawan K Goenka, chairman of space regulator Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe), also hailed the "historic moment". The Indian Space Association (ISpA) said the launch would "bolster global confidence" in the country's private space industry.

India Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been pushing for the privatisation and commercialisation of the country's space sector in the last few years.

India's first privately developed rocket, from the company Skyroot, flew in 2022.

Agnikul, whose name is derived from the Hindi and Sanskrit word for fire, was founded in 2017 and runs India's first private launchpad and mission control centre. All other launchpads are operated by ISRO.

Wrong thread that should be in ISRO thread, this is a rocket not a missile.

If someone thinks Pakistanis have better missile technology than India, they can confuse between Rockets and missiles too.

Just a quick reminder about Raja Ramanna, the man who was not just a brilliant physicist but also someone with an unshakeable moral compass. He played a crucial role in India’s nuclear development but made headlines for turning down Saddam Hussein's offer to lead Iraq’s nuclear program. On this day, India remember his integrity and his contributions to India's scientific legacy.

Wow.
I didn’t know about him.
Great stuff.

On topic. I read a report that Bharat’s nuclear stockpiles have grown in last few years and it’s a clear shift in focus from Pakistan to China.

The big war is coming and we all must be prepared for it.

India's successful test of hypersonic missile puts it among elite group

India has successfully tested a domestically developed long-range hypersonic missile, it said on Sunday, attaining a key milestone in military development that puts it in a small group of nations possessing the advanced technology.

The global push for hypersonic weapons figures in the efforts of some countries, such as India, which is striving to develop advanced long-range missiles, along with China, Russia and the United States.

The Indian missile, developed by the state-run Defence Research and Development Organisation and industry partners, is designed to carry payloads for ranges exceeding 1,500 km (930 miles) for the armed forces, the government said in a statement.

"The flight data ... confirmed the successful terminal manoeuvres and impact with high degree of accuracy," it added.

The test-firing took place from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam island off the eastern coast of Odisha state on Saturday, it said.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh called the test a "historic achievement" in a post on X, adding that it placed India among a select group of nations possessing such critical and advanced technologies.

China knows about our strength which is why they backed off in Ladakh. Bharat needs to be ready for World War 3. We must be so strong that we can obliterate our enemies if they dared think of even having negative thoughts about us.
