What's new

India end Day 1 of the 2nd Test on 36/1 after bowling out Australia for 195

Runs have dried up , India striving hard for another wicket here , critical moment in the game.

Shaheen looks shot. Why no effort with the new ball?

This third umpire has been making horrendous decisions forever in the BBL.

Hopefully he is forced out of umpiring after that blatant shocker

Disgusting

If I remember correctly, Siraj always got most of his wicket during A tours with the old ball. Rahane might have noticed that too and kept him fresh for the older ball.

Brilliant bowling, impressed by Siraj. He is actually a red ball pacer - uses seem beautifully & bowls on that inviting length/channel which is easier to dispatch through the line in smaller grounds in batting belters.

It's bloody criminal how we lost the first Test after taking a lead of 50 odd runs in the first innings. Watching India play today makes me really cringe at that defeat.

Exactly. It was wrong for India to debut him in LOIs on home pattas.

Shubh, shubh bolo, mer bhai!

It would’nt be a surprise. Apparently india are the side to concede more runs to the last 3 batting pairs than any other side in test cricket. Remember happened a lot in England tour.

I'm not being misled again.

Our bowlers always do the job.

And all goes to nought when our batsmen end up 80/5.

So not getting my hopes up.

Very impressed with India’s resilience. This is the elite mentality that Kohli has instilled in this side. They have shown their strong mentality even without his presence.

Unlike other teams and unlike previously, they didn’t flounder after the fluke 36 all out and got it out of their system very quickly.

Another wicket as soon as I switch to the real daddy series of the winter

Siraj brilliant that’s how u catch lol

If it was Abbas/Shaw you’d be just shaking your head in disbelief

20+ overs left in the day?

In that case hopefully india gets Aussies out within 5 overs so we can get 12-13 good overs of Cummins, Starc and Hazelwood

Why was Saha dropped?

He is an awful batsman and has the cowardly demeanor of an Indian cricketer from 80s and 90s. Doesn’t fit the profile of the modern Indian team.

Pant is ridiculously talented and the future.

Oofff... Even Indians don't hype Kohli as much as you do. Though a great batsman, he is a shiit captain and even a worse leader...."Elite mentality", "strong mentality"... .embarrassing. Please stop this nonsense.

He’s one of the better keepers india have had imo. But he’s old too I guess.

Also if they were worried about ‘cowardly demeanor’ then they shouldn’t have gone with Rahane as captain lol. He used to look like he’s gonna soil his pants every time he was batting earlier. Doesn’t look as much with the beard though so good call on that.

Players performing with freedom with Kohli not being there.

That’s why Rohit is a far better captain

Damn Bumrah’s run up gets shorter every year

Kohli’s is the GOAT Asian Test captain. Appreciate what you have and respect true greatness.

India’s fight today is his legacy and influence of his mentality. Nothing to do with timid Rahane.

Lol wth. India bowled well last match too in the first innings. Don’t make things up

Rahane should also be on a tight rope. He is like a superior version of Asad Shafiq.

Well, the bowlers bowled well last match too, it was the batting that let them down. Lets see what they do sans Kohli today

Lol why is Warne always complaining about umpires :))

People who have not really seen him captaining before often judge the book by its cover and think hes timid, who is not the true in the slightest.

With all due respect to Indian bowlers, i am kinda amazed how ordinary Australian batters are on their home pitches. Not impressed at all by Wade- Burns- Green- Head combo.

Travis Head, Paine, Wade are all 30-35 averaging batsmen in best case scenarios

India would go for the kill and try and wrap this up within 200 , Aussies would be happy to get some quick runs and push the score to 220 here

"I thought Rahane did a good job. Backed his bowlers. He had four slips and a gully at one point. Once Smith came out, he kept the pressure by bringing back Bumrah. I thought his captaincy has been very good."

"It was obvious that he started with Bumrah. But when Ashwin got Smith, it was interesting to see Rahane carrying on to attack. Generally, you see India's bowling attacks have a pattern, but today, there was not a pattern. Normally, on the first day of a Test match, you don't normally see 9 overs (13) from spinners. It wasn't just from one end, it was from the other end. He preferred his spinners to use the moisture that existed before lunch. That's a call he made and it was successful,"

~Glenn Mcgrath on commentary today

Don't think so.

But he has captained India before, the 2017 Test win vs Australia was especially memorable in the way he was positive/attacking throughout.

Yea remember that but not huge sample set.

I think Kohli’s captaincy on the field has been good too overall recently. The opposition tail ends up hanging around too long but dunno how much of that should fall on Kohli

Australia have a decent score now though. Obv not a good one but they’re in the game. Depends on Indian batting but I feel both sides bowling attack is very good and batting lineup isn’t all that.

Anything up around 220 might be a par score on this wicket.

It's a good wicket- little bit of everything, some bounce, some turn, some seam.

Aussies 195 all out , India would be elated with their performance here , Aussies well short of par score here

Can't wait to see Gill bat against this Aussie attack!

Hopefully hangs in there for sometime and provides some respite to the middle order.

To be fair , we dont have Kohli, Shami or Ishant and we lost the toss as well. No chance in hell for us. But despite that 36 all out, we have done better than the 2 teams who toured last year who never looked like even competing with Australia :P

Bowlers have done their job once again. Mind you Ishant and Shami were not playing in this match. Only batsman can lose us this game now. :inti

India’s competition ain’t those teams (Pak and who else?). After South Africa, India is the touring team which gives Australia the most competition even when Aussie sides are full strength.
