If Pujara and Rahane save us this test (BIG IF), they will probably hurt us the next couple of tests.

They need to go.

If the ball does even a little bit, they are batting like headless chicken.

That's a bad drop by Bairstow, should have been caught easily. Rahane has been fortunate to survive against Moeen today.

Eng is still a huge favorite to win here. India has 4 number eleven playing. They won't score many runs. 2 wickets down more here and Eng may be chasing less than 200.

I don't expect an England win if Pujara and Rahane are able to survive through till stumps today.

Looking like a draw now. India will bat for at least a session tomorrow. :inti

50 for Rahane, basically saved his test career once again.

Well, India has to bat lots of overs for that. One wicket here and Eng will suddenly fancy their chances. Jadeja and Pant are good, but there is nothing after them.

If these 2 can negotiate the new ball, England will get worried for sure.

Pity we didn't pick Ashwin in this test.

It is a flat wickets but England batsman are known for their cowardice display of batting. Don't expect them to go for chase if the target is 250 at 70 overs. We saw it Vs New Zealand.

Yeah, it will be hard if they survive the entire day, but if Eng can take even one of them before close then I will fancy their chances. Pant and Jadeja can't be expected to score every time.

What are you guys smoking..

India lost any chances of victory when they lost 3 wickets in quick succession on a largely dead wicket with nothing on the board. What Pujara and Rahane are doing is that they're rescuing India from a certain defeat to a relatively safe position (still long way from being safe).

Although it is unlikely now that both will get dropped next game but I think India should look to play only one of two for test matches going forward. There is no place for both of them playing together at 3 & 5.

Maybe if they can do it, play Rahane for overseas tests and Pujara in India for two -three years more and give that other slot to an youngster, probably Gill or in this series , Vihari or Mayank.

England batting can collapse like pack of card if india can get root wicket early. Last test rain saved England otherwise india would have won .

Cheteshwar Pujara has faced 200-plus balls in an innings 23 times in his Test career including this. Among batters with active Test careers, only Steven Smith has more such innings (24 times in 139 innings).

That was a brute of a delivery by Wood, England need a couple of wickets before stumps to force a result tomorrow.

We move into fascinating final hour of play with Rishabh Pant in.

What a stupid cut shot ,in entire innings he want to play that shots to got out.

As usual.

Scored enough to secure his spot.

Team gaya bhaad mein.

Had been trying to get out to Moeen for so long.

Succeeded finally.

Now Pant and Jaddu get to face the new ball.

Brilliant.

And Rahane does his usual.

We can call him a poor man's Babar Azam because he throws his wicket cheaply like Babar too and poor man because he is not consistent like Babar.

I doubt Pant has the brains to sheperd the tail or anything close to that.

Need another 50 runs from somewhere. Minimum.

I don't care if India wins or loses.

I want Pujara and Rahane gone.

Pujara is my hero but nope....he is either done or he has issues to sort out.

Most likely done.

Please drop him.

This is the problem buddy.

Why half a** stuff?

Go the distance.

Drop both.

Should do, after this series.

Within this series I doubt there are replacements available. We can't fly anybody in with quarantine restrictions etc either.

Virat will not dropped anyone as if he do then his place also in danger .

Imagine being Rahul and Rohit.

After batting their ar*** off on the first day under challenging conditions, all it needed in the second day was the middle order to make collectively a 100 runs together and England would have been batted out of the game. But instead the middle order failing once again has completely wasted the openers' efforts on the first day.

Hope SKY or Mayank or even Benadryl Shaw comes in for one of the batsmen in the middle order.

No need to drop anyone from current team.
Rahane and Pujaara are getting rhythm.
We need to pick ashwin based on conditions.

England don’t want to be chasing more than 200. Why oh why did India not pick Ashwin. They might even be marginal favourites in these spinning conditions if they had. This is going to be a Test match classic that goes down to the wire.

It's a bit puzzling why Root forced the umpire's hand on bad light this evening by informing them that he'll bowl the seamers. It's an utterly defensive decision, which betrays the fear opposition captains have of Rishabh Pant.

Moeen was bowling well and there's no reason why he couldn't have taken another wicket or two before stumps if Root allowed him to continue.

I felt the same.

Maybe he was circumspect about Pant hitting a 6 or two.

Which shouldn't matter but he didn't want to give away those runs.

Tomorrow, he will always get the same shot post new ball spell.

Jadeja is a specialist batsman you see!

I do think he is.

I know today's dismissal hurt India bad but the same jaddu has played crucial role in many SENA tests.

Only when we give performers the required backup, will they have the confidence to play their natural game.

There are a gazzilion other passengers in the team tho.

I would always pick him ahead of Jadeja in England.

But in September I would pick both and drop a fast bowler.

Think they are fearful of the pitch, it seems that a target above 200 will be very difficult to chase down.

Moeen is fine but who'll bowl from the other end??

Can't give free runs to India with likes of Root bowling....

I don't think his place is in danger anytime soon.

Captaincy sure. As a player not yet.

Issue is he is not in a moral position to drop the other two when he has been worse than them recently.

That's the issue.

Had he been scoring, I am 100% sure he would have chucked them out by now.

Past data proves that.

I do think he is..
Then it says more about our falling batting standards.

No wonder Jadeja has been totally toothless with the ball in all 3 tests he has played in England this summer. If his sole role is to pickup the overrate for the team then you can't hope for too many wickets from him.

I would say touch concerned.

This game is England's to lose and they don't want any hiccups.

I think what happened in the last 20-30 minutes would have shaped their views.

Before that, we were talking about how even a 220 lead is a cakewalk.

This is bubbling up nicely. Could be an absolute thriller tomorrow evening!
