India end Day 4 on 98/2, needing 309 runs to win the 3rd Test against Australia

Rohit Sharma and Chet Pujara, I can't think of two more different top order batsmen at the crease together. One is one of the top 3 six hitter in cricket history and has most T20I centuries, other is the successor of Rahul Dravid.

All the cricket I have seen in my life - Aussie umpires are the most biased, cunning and dishonest. Home umpires favouring own players isn’t new in cricket, but these cheats know exactly when & against (for) whom to give one odd wrong decision- and invariably they’ll balance it out for the Aussie commis....

I cannot forgive them for denying Pakistan the series win in WI in 2000:inti Doctrove was also part of the infamous Oval test in 2006 and supported Darrel Hair against Pak.
 
As expected, Sharma has thrown it away. It's absolutely irresponsible batting ten minutes before close of play.
 
And thats Game right there. Time to start preparing for Brisbane and see if Drawing the series is possible. India literally dont have healthy players, this may force Gill back into the side.

Yes was a great performance by Wasim, took 11 wickets in the match. Pak would have become only the 2nd team to win a series against Ambrose and Walsh in WI after Australia in 1995. Such a shame it wasn't to be.
 
I always wonder how did Pat Cummins managed to put all his injury problems behind him. He was a walking injury for a good 3-4 years
 
Rahane has become such a confident looking batsman. I remember 2014 England tour he looked like he was ******** his pants every time he came to bat

Yea yea even then he played good innings. He just didn’t look confident I felt. Like a bit timid. Now he doesn’t. Maybe beard also helps
 
Rohit threw it away. India had a real chance to draw it

Can't expect rahane and rohit to bat out the 90 overs

India's tail starts with Vihari. So last pair of batsmen. Yet another test match with an asterisk. Wonder when was the last test match between any team which was without against this asterisk.

He was very young when he first played for Australia i.e. 19 years old, a fast bowler's body, bones and muscles mature when they enter their mid 20's.
 
The home crowd at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Sunday booed India batsman Hanuma Vihari after he miscued a throw towards subbed-in wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha to hit Australia all-rounder Cameron Green.

Green, who chipped a fuller delivery from India pacer Mohammed Siraj to Vihari at mid-off off the last ball of the 63rd over, was taken aback when the ball hit him on his left calf. Although Vihari was quick to apologise, Green didn't look to be that happy a man. However, there were no words exchanged.

It has been a tough day on the field for Vihari, who earlier, dropped a regulation take off the second ball of the day from fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, granting Marnus Labuschagne, then on 47, another lifeline.

Australia finds itself in a strong position in the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series as it leads by 276 runs at the end of the first session on day four, with six wickets still remaining in the hut.

Pujara and Rahane together played 25 maidens yesterday.
Hope they will repeat same tomorrow.
 
In what seemed for the most part a dominant day for Australia, India battled hard in the final session of the fourth day to reach 98/2 by stumps, but still face the improbable target of 407 for victory.

India weren’t helped by their fielding, Hanuma Vihari dropping a straightforward chance to dismiss Marnus Labuschagne off the second ball of the day. There would be more reprieves handed out to the home batsmen throughout the day, as Australia posted 312/6 declared in their second innings, a mammoth lead of 406.

With Australia declaring their innings at tea, after Cameron Green had scored a 132-ball 84, the Indian batsmen had to see out a whole session. For the most part, it went to plan, with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill putting on India’s best opening stand in the series so far – their 71-run partnership held Australia at bay for nearly 23 overs.

The duo combined resistance with aggression, overturning a couple of dismissals on the way via the DRS. As far as India were concerned, things would have been ideally placed had the two been able to see through the day unbeaten. Unfortunately, Gill, having looked good for most of his 64-ball knock, edged one behind off Josh Hazlewood.

Rohit was joined by Cheteshwar Pujara thereafter, with the opener increasingly looking fluid and playing his strokes. He reached his half-century with a boundary – his sixth overseas in Test cricket and his first as an opener – but then paid for his enterprise, attempting a pull off Pat Cummins, only to find Mitchell Starc stationed at deep backward square leg.

It meant Ajinkya Rahane, the captain, was in the middle to fend off the last few overs of the day along with Pujara, in circumstances almost similar to what India faced in the first innings. Rahane and Pujara saw through the day without much fuss, but with Ravindra Jadeja unable to bat, India essentially have seven wickets left to battle through day five and eke out a draw.

The day started with Australia asserting their authority. Labuschagne and Steve Smith, who had looked imperious during the final session of the third day, carried on from where they left off, extending their partnership to 103 runs. Labuschagne, overnight on 47, went on to post 73 before edging one from Navdeep Saini to the substitute wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha.

The wicket of Matthew Wade two overs later raised Indian hopes of triggering a slide, but Smith did the real damage at the other end. He went from his overnight 29* to 81, with Green offering good support at the other end. The duo added 60 for the fifth wicket, taking the total past 200, but R Ashwin got his man once again, when Smith missed the turn and was trapped in front.

The hosts were already in a commanding position. It meant their captain Tim Paine could come in and get on the attack, along with the well-settled Green. It was their 104-run stand – off just 116 balls – that really deflated Indian hopes, and put Australia in a position from which they have a realistic chance of taking an unassailable 2-1 lead.

Yep, probably the 3rd test of the 2017 series, and that was between two very different teams - no Bumrah/Labu, a much more inexperienced Cummins

A real shame as these are two top tier cricket teams
 
Too many Indians getting out on 50. Are they just playing for their averages??

As for Vihari, the writing is on the wall. He needs to come up with a big score or watch his career go down the drain.
 
Pujara is solely responsible for this defeat. India were top after the start openers gave in 1st innings. There was absolutely no need for him to go into blockathon mode which played into Australian hands. I understand a batsman need to grind it out on a lively surface if a team loses early wickets but what was the reason of batting so slowly when openers gave a dream start. His batting put pressure on likes of Rahane, Vihari etc who all got out trying to be adventurous. I dont want to see Pujara from next series anymore. This batting approach will never work.
 
Vihari will fail tomorrow and then hit a hundred in a match losing cause in Brisbane. That should be enough to save his career.
 
Even if India plays till lunch without losing a wicket, India is done in this test.
