What's new

India lead England by 171 runs with 7 wickets in hand at stumps on Day 3 of the 4th Test at the Oval

Good positive stroke from Pujara, need more of these.

English umpires have been extremely biased towards home side this series. At least 15-20 such poor decisions against the visitors, hardly 2-3 against England.

Remember that series against WI last year where WI batsmen successfully reviewed 5 times just in one session.

Someone needs to be vocal about this, England can't be allowed to get away with this 'holier than thou' attitude. Horrible, horrible, jingoistic home umpiring.

Is it about decisions being overturned after umpires gave it out or not out against India during their batting and bowling?

It can just be to do with the incompetency of the umpires. Umpires were horrible just in the recent WI vs Pak test series as well, I don’t remember seeing as many decisions overturned in a two match series.

As I expected earlier the cloudy conditions are back. Now again it's england with advantage. But that's test cricket and it's great.

I am interested to know if snicko can differentiate between bat Spike and pad Spike. the pic shows 2 spikes. Interesting

What are Warney and nasser on about? It's clearly a nick. Jeez the bcci payroll?

Maybe technical glitch! The snicko didn't capture the other sound... But we have to go with whatever technology is in offer...

This is pretty clear. No pad involved. People are getting confused because of the back pad. :inti

Review. Look very very close as he not offer any bats.
Lol its missing

Is that Pujara slogging? lol
100 up for India

Ashwin would have eaten England alive here, damn you Kohli!

Another boundary, this time from Rohit. England looking wayward.

Pujara at least is not doing the total blockathon things these days!

Moeen has been been bowing good but Pujara looks comfortable

Lunch break
Session Summary

26 overs 1 wicket
India lead by 9 runs and 9 wickets remaining

India’s session. Add 2 wickets to the score though (the standard Geoffrey Boycott equation) and the Test match could look very different very quickly.

Conditions were hard for batting on day 1 but eased out on day 2 and continues to be easy. No excuses for our batting line up if they dont score runs here.

Despite the conditions being cloudy and overcast , The pitch now looks tailor made for the OFF spinners. Eng will be the happier side.

Another positive stroke from Pujara, his positive attitude is the biggest change in Pujara in this innings.

Pujara has rolled his ankle turning for a run and it looks quite nasty.

Ouch That really looked Nasty. Ankle twist for puajra .
Good that he is back to crease now

I am having a hunch that big innings coming from Pant.

I get worried when people start having hunches for players who are still to bat 2 wickets later. Hope your hunch comes true on day 5 and not today

150 will put ENG under pressure. IND need to retain focus up to 5 down and then swing for a bit of flourish to avoid tail collapsing without adding much.

good man Rohit.
third 50 in this series, wish he converts to a ton now

Rohit Sharma has recently been more dependable than Kohli. India is still not out of the woods yet but Rohit and Rahul have given India a good start

Why they not give ball to Ali ? Ball is Turning here .
Two boundary by Pujara in Overton over

Eng attack is looking monotonous in these conditions with 4 right arm pacers bowling in early to mid 130s kph with not much help available and that was somewhat expected at Oval as the match progressed.

Mark Wood or Saqib Mehmood could have provided a good variety here.

So far so good by our boys
am worried about rohit against moeen, hope he doesnt go for the spectacular...
all in all considering our propensity of about 45 minutes of brain fade/freeze what ever its called in which we loose 7-8 wickets in a session fairly regulary, we're motoring along...more of the same plz...

Lolz.... so the biased home umpires who want England to win just gave KL Rahul not out despite a nick noise, bat nowhere near anything else, him obviously nicking it, and snicko proving the nick.

Justice done by the DRS.

Still waiting for that list of '15-20 decisions' that have gone in England's favour. I will keep waiting. I don't think this list of 15-20 decisions exists does it?

Maybe the umpires just sometimes get things wrong.

Umpires Know they'll review it so he's playing his card well :afridi

On flat, dry and turning wickets, Pujara is a brilliant player. Arguably one of the best players of spin in this era. But in overcast conditions with fresh pacers on, he struggles due to not being as skillful vs pace.

Its overcast and flod lights are on, its also turning for ali
Im more concerned about rohit who might try to take on moeen, am sure moeen has 70 pc of his total wickets against us.
hope our guys play it sensibly

It’s looking painfully flat for England. They need a moment of inspiration from somewhere. One of the bowlers or fielders needs to do something slightly magical.

England looking flat.

The wicket looking flat.

India with the upper hand.

As I mentioned day before yesterday, it was not the runs, it was time which was more important for eng to outdo the Ind. Eng has given the full day3 - the best day to bat on most test wickets.

Kudos to Ind to be patient on day 1. Now, they need need to make full use of day 3. The game is still even but can tilt in Ind favor if they don't lose more than a couple of wickets by tea.

After tea, the ball will swing and seam. Ind should repeat what they did yesterday - keep the wickets and don't worry about score - stay defensive till lunch tomorrow. The 4th day wicket in the evening will take care of Eng. It is easier said than done against Eng but, Ind upper batting order is capable of it.

England keeping very tight. Runs seem to dry up. Something is going to happen in next 3-4 overs

Mark Wood is injured. Even when he played he didn't have much impact as Indians love pace.

This was the best attack England can come up with in their reserves. To injury plagued and the lack of green in the wicket has caught up with them

This will be another great Sena victory for india.

You are more confident than me Bhai
considering how much of total duds we are against quality swing and last few times we've lost gadzillions of wickets in single sessions, I'm just happy at the way we are going considering the thought @ back of my mind that a massive collapse is any day not too far away.
Still so far so good.

I’m not sure that England has done a lot wrong here as a team. These are good conditions for batting and India’s top order is playing brilliantly. Can’t think of much that England, who are playing their best fully fit available bowlers, could have done differently. It has just been excellent from Rohit and Pujara (and KL), all credit to them.

Very flat day 3 wicket. England badly let them selves down with a paltry 290 on this when they had the best of first innings conditions.

Why lack of green? It's surprising since England won last match by utilising green pitch on early morning. It's a open secret we struggle playing swing bowling in Eng and NZ. This pitch now seems flat. Conditions are very Aus like. This is in our favor.

Moeen, bairstow, and pope give it away yesterday when set on this featherbed
