India reach 146/3 at close of a truncated Day 2 of the World Test Championship final

For all the younglings from PAK watching this one. Both teams deserve to win this and have done their bit to get here.

Let’s avoid some of the pettiness that was on display after IND v AUS this time, regardless of the outcome.

In life and cricket, you have to win your own battles. Praying for the losses of others doesn’t cut it. Nor does it do wonders to one’s personality.

Well said brother!

1st run of many thousand runs in England from Gill.

True. Hoping for runs from him and Rahane especially, from the IND side. Gill because I was really proud of his game in AUS. Rahane because he owes a big one and definitely has the game.

I'm not sure about Gill's technique of playing beside the ball but his technique of playing the short ball is perfect. Plays on top of the bounce and keeps it down along the ground. Almost like a backhand jab.

Remember being wonderstruck when he played that pull shot to a steaming Starc late in the evening in his boxing day test debut. Never seen any Indian player play a pull shot as comfortable ever in Australia, and this was a 21 year old kid on debut in a boxing day test.

New Zealand Playing XI :
Tom Latham, Devon Conway, Kane Williamson (capt), Ross Taylor, Henry Nicholls, BJ Watling (wk), Colin de Grandhomme, Kyle Jamieson, Tim Southee, Neil Wagner, Trent Boult.

NZ bowling line up looking pretty formidable

Names on the sheet won’t matter here. Bit more pressure with it being the Final which will likely cause some nerves in both camps.

NZ should have batted 1st, get the runs on the board as the conditions won't change much.

If IND can post ~350, they should take control of it. Playing 2 spinners won’t matter as much if the conditions remain like this. 3 fast bowlers should be good enough to do the bulk of the damage.

This is a dangerous time for both these openers. just when you think you are set and start to play more shots

Certain boundaries are getting converted into twos and threes due to outfield.

Colin Dr Grandhomme will do the most damage with the ball.

Jamieson denied Kohli's request to bowl with red Dukes in RCB nets. He was saving himself for this day.

I am still wondering what two spinners will do in these seaming conditions.
Shardul would have been better pick than Ashwin, I think.

Ne never does at the start of his innings. Expect it get better the longer he plays

so true, it does get better as he spends some time there. This is the reason why he has trouble playing swing and sometimes gets out early in the innings. Either ways, one of my favourite players and very happy to see him as a permanent fixture in this Indian test team.

I know this is a high profile match and all, but somehow I am not feeling the thrill of watching the Ind vs Aus test series in Dec 2020 - Jan 2021. Perhaps its because India were the overwhelming underdogs in that situation and the off-field controversies added a bit of drama to the series.

NZ have swung the ball a fair bit. I have always maintained that our lads struggle against seam rather than swing(different matter if Boult gets in swing though)

My theory is simple. If the wicket is helpful, you don't need a 4th seamer. You need to further strengthen your bowling when the wicket is flat. In bowling friendly conditions, you need to strengthen your batting.

So the question is who will contribute more in the batting department - Vihari, Jadeja, Shardul. Honestly I'll pick Jadeja. Moreover the wicket has been under the covers for a long time. Typically moisture underneath the surface helps a spinner. So unless the moisture doesn't get dried out under the sun, Jadeja and Ashwin will have some say imo.

I'm calling this early.

India will win, we look rattled and India are the more composed of the two teams. Both openers set the tone for this match.

We won't win a major international title until we have a GOAT tier player which will probably unlikely never happen.

That is if rain allows

No

Rain is going to save NZ. Don't worry. :)

Boult is such a bottler in the biggest matches.

Southee probably worse with the new ball.

Both let the team down and probably put the demons back in the teams head's.

The old Ian Chappell theory of winning the toss and batting regardless of conditions holding true again. Too much is made of overhead conditions, batting is supposed to be difficult on Day 1 of a test.

Kohli was lucky to lose the toss.

Going to take something from Jamieson and Wagner to get it together. Not expecting much from Boult and Southee.

Kohli is padded up and Pujara is in his jumpers.

Are we going to see a reshuffle here?

Looks like Gill & Rohit are our reliable openers in Tests for some time now! This pair had a crucial role to play even in Australian test series!

Nah, the openers let Kane down.

Subcontinent batsmen are not used to the cold weather and tend to have stiff joints at the start.

Don't think that is the reason. You have all morning to do your stretching and warm ups and by the 7th over, a player should be fully charged up. Reason is that Rohit's fitnesss is not there and he has started to take it easy for the past year or so.

According to cric viz, this is the worst nz bowlers have bowled since their tour to England.

Credit must be given to gill and sharma though
