India reach 146/3 at close of a truncated Day 2 of the World Test Championship final

Nah, the openers let Kane down.

It doesn't matter, teams should win the toss and bat regardless. It's up to the batsmen to fight it out, scoreboard pressure and quality spinners will help win a test more often than not. Importantly, this is not really a greentop.

Rohit is a much improved test cricketer. Playing against top class bowlers in England under over cast conditions is a no joke.

How does the weather look like? Good chance of a rain out? I'll take a shared trophy at this point.

India took the field on Day 2 of WTC Final wearing black armbands to remember the legendary sprinter MilkhaSingh, who died aged 91 on Friday

Boult is such a bottler in the biggest matches.

Southee probably worse with the new ball.

Both let the team down and probably put the demons back in the teams head's.

Definitely nerves
Henry would definitely have gotten a wicket by now

Lol what is this chest dumping by some indian fans ? Only 41 runs scored not 300. So just be gracious here, match is just started .

Test cricket is such a boring affair to watch in a stadium tbh. You would not even know when the over has finished

Have you ever seen a live Test Match game in life. It is beautiful thing with the ebbs and flows, like life happening during a day, Lot of exciting moments and some mundane ones.

NZ playing like jobbers but one hell of a start by India, NZ they don’t deserve to be in the final, please hand India the trophy already, it has been a farce tournament but this would be a positive

My theory is simple. If the wicket is helpful, you don't need a 4th seamer. You need to further strengthen your bowling when the wicket is flat. In bowling friendly conditions, you need to strengthen your batting.

So the question is who will contribute more in the batting department - Vihari, Jadeja, Shardul. Honestly I'll pick Jadeja. Moreover the wicket has been under the covers for a long time. Typically moisture underneath the surface helps a spinner. So unless the moisture doesn't get dried out under the sun, Jadeja and Ashwin will have some say imo.

Jadeja is default pick for me as well. He is true 3D player of India. Ashwin these days can get wicket on any surface due to his experience. So I am not too much worried.
However Shardul's batting in Aus has built some trust for him in my mind. And I personally believe bowlers with less speed tend to have greater control in swinging conditions.
This is where I feel Shardul over Ashwin could have been picked.
Anyway, we have what we have and I am backing Ashwin and Jadeja to perform well.

I watched it in Birmingham last week. The atmosphere was great there too but I am talking about cricket, It is very boring and you would only enjoy if you went in a group.

well everyone is different. Seen in group and enjoyed a couple of match days completely alone, in the Large MCG. Enjoyable cricket, especially if your team is doing well and you can have a few beers :)

Thing with Dukes is, it will never stop seaming around unlike SG or Kookabura. Thats why you cant be complacant anytime batting in England.

I just watched last week and all 80 overs. It was a very dead affair. I must say I had much more fun watching T20s and ODI cricket.

Au contraire, it can be very intense if one is concentrating on every ball, especially watching from side-on. It gives a different perspective about batting technique and field placements that can't be apparent on television. Watching on television can't be compared at all, as you don't really need to concentrate that hard given that the coverage is sanitized for the viewer.

I still don't know why they are playing this game in Southampton, It's good that they have allowed the crowd

Rohit and Gill basically proving how awful England openers have been in past 10 years. Had these two grew up playing in these conditions, they would have averaged over 40 as openers.

Completely agree. and it is varied context and experience depending on the day. Sometimes on the 3rd day teams are trying to setup, on first day both teams are conservative, or 2nd day when game is in balance.

There he is :) King Rishabh. Looked damn serious. Probably planning a big innings like the one he played against Australia.

Kohli had a full session with Rohit and had given him throw downs and talking about technique as well. They were showing clips on Star Sports.
Good decision. Kohli still has best technique for these conditions from our side.

Huge inside edge, laughable review from Williamson.

Has Prithvi Shaw's test career ended? With Rohit and Gill doing ok, Mayank sidelined, no room in the middle order.. Maybe once Pujara, Rahane retire??

Liked the way Rohit pretended to look like a scared mouse there.

It made Williamson burn a review.

Clear inside edge.

Must be a while since our openers got 50 runs for first wicket.

We have not adjusted to the Indians batting outside their crease.

It's test cricket and you can't call a match this early, but the body language has been poor from us and idk if we have the belief to turn this around.

Great to see Gill getting a decent score as there were some talks about replacing him at the top of order.

A loss here will cement us as crickets bottlers.

All the advantage and unable to make use of it and to play like this in a Final.. MCG, Lord's and this performance.

These Rohit backfoot drives are quality.

Problem is he's going to do something stupid in 3...2....

Still to early say . only 20 over bowled from 450 over dude .just relax

Funnily enough, despite the perceived homogeneity, feel like NZD are more likely to rue not playing Henry. More likely than IND ruing playing two spinners.
