What's new

India reach 321/7 at Stumps on Day 2 they take a commanding lead of 144 runs against Australia

Yeah I'm glad that guy is gone. But then we haven't replaced even him adequately

Ayer and gill are ready . Sky is somebody I would play too . Last series for pujara hopefully .

Kohli looked in good touch . I think he will get at least a century this series if not two .

Jadeja+Axar scored more than Smith+Labuschagne.

On a pitch that's doctored to be against left-handers.

Just love Jads, his batting, his bowling and his electric fielding - he reminds me of someone who is happy just living their dream....Love the Guj Rajput Sword twirling celebrations...what an underrated player,....i think he must be in the top 3 allrounders with Stokes, Holder , Green, jamieson etc

Is that padding or is he fat?

Dos'nt look like he let too many second helpings of Vada Paav or Pune misaal pass in the off season like he leaves outside the off stump...am sure he tucked in with relish...just like he tucked into this aus bowling...as long as it does not affect his batting or fielding - am sure most indian guys would take this any day...

We need to give chances to guys like Washi sundar and yashashvi Jaiswal ....both are LH, have great techniques, gun fielders and can bowl as well....there has to be out of the box thinking from our selectors. We have to have a backup test line up....we have none for our pace guys...

Number 1 odi and t20 team soon number 1 test team

Wow congrats to captain and all the players very big achievement deserve all the respect 🫡

Axar is growing in confidence too.

I admire him for the fact that he is one example of a guy doing well in domestics, working hard on his batting, fielding and variations in his bowling and rising to the top. Dude was very one dimensional when he started, but he slogged his backside off to reach here. a real success story for the domestic circuit, inspirational

Rohit, Ashwin, Jadeja and Axar ( he showed glimpses in Ban as well ) are the better players of spin in the absence of Pant and Iyer. Scoreboard does not lie.

Axar is playing proper cricketing shots..
Number 9 is too low for him.
India is lucky to have world class all-rounders like Jadeja, Ashwin, Axar, Sundar and Pandya playing at the same time for the team. Thakur and Deepak Chahar can be useful bowling all-rounders too.

Indeed.

People call him fake Jadeja and what not. But he has performed really well whenever given chances, across formats. Great to have so many left arm options in spin bowling.

Sundar is such a handy player to have in any format. Should be a sure starter.

Hope to see Jaiswal too in India colors very soon.

Dont forget Washi Sundar....i feel he has a good defensive technique, he has the shots, he will give you 10-12 solid overs per day and is a gun fielder.
Plus...he is LHB...and we have a scarcity of lh batsman

In LOIs, his bowling is cannon fodder.

AUS 177
IND 321/7 (114) CRR: 2.82
Day 2: Stumps - India lead by 144 runs

for me highlights of the day
hitman - century whilst curbing natural instincts - cue- that pull along the carpet and not in the air\
couple of our guys looking comfy and falling to not so good shots
the feel good factor with Todd murphy getting a fiver on debut...wow...dud is awesome
jads doing justice to his immense talent
Akshar showing if you dont have natural talent you still can get there with immense hard work
cummins with his never say die spirit....i thot his second spell with new ball was just world class terrific - that ball to get rohit was awesome, he also bowled some absolute serpents to jads...
Carey - his keeping was wonderful, that legside catch of virat was diamond crazy...lot of people dont realise how difficult it is to take catches down legside...especially when you are blindsided.
good day of tough test cricket

Late order is coming to rescue Indian Test Team for a long time! They have been covering the regular batsmen's failures! But this has led to the continued presence of passengers!

I think Indian Late Order batting (in tests) for last few years can be termed as ATG in the history of Test Cricket ever, so good they have been!

Late order rescues are rare in SENA because only one of Ashwin and Jadeja is selected. Comparitively better in Aus.

How many times India was saved by India's tail to cover the trio's failure in the last 3 years. Pujara/Rahane/Kohli. Either Jadeja or Ashwin or Sundar or Thakur.

There have been many instances in Australia (Ashwin, Thakur, Sunder, etc), even in England (that Shami's half century, Bumrah's spark, etc). At home it is unbelievable (Ashwin, Jadeja, Jayant Yadav... Now Axar). Even Pant technically belongs to the beginning of late order.

Pure batsmen are the ones who should take the maximum responsibility of opening & middle-order batting! Indian late order has been extremely good. At least we Indians should start acknowledging it.. Even the great WI & Australian teams in the past didn't have this luxury even when they played at their home! Their batmen & bowlers were doing their primary job well, and when they didn't (which was a rarity anyhow) teams could take them on rather easily!

Rohit Sharma led the batting charge as India overcame a stiff challenge from Australia bowlers to manage a healthy lead on the second day of the first Test of Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Rohit hit a brilliant 120 on an enthralling day of Test cricket, as the game further tilted in India’s favour.

The day ended with India at 321/7.

On a day when debutant Todd Murphy got the number of veteran India batters, Rohit held his own against the Australia bowlers. The 35-year-old hit 15 fours and two sixes in his innings. This was his first hundred against Australia in Tests.

Rohit’s 120 was his eighth Test hundred at home, equalling the likes of VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly.

India's skipper now averages 75.2 in home games. Among players who have batted in 20 or more innings at home, Rohit is the second best behind cricketing legend Sir Don Bradman.

Picked over the more experienced Ashton Agar and Mitchell Swepson, the young off-spinner lit up Australia’s day with his stupendous bowling.

The 22-year-old managed to outdo Australia’s premier spinner Nathan Lyon and outfoxed the likes of Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ravichandran Ashwin.

Playing only his eighth first-class encounter, Murphy’s first-ever five-wicket haul in Tests was also his first ever at the first-class level.

His figures of 5-82 were the second-best for an Australia debutant in India. They are bettered by Jason Krejza 8-215 at the same venue in 2008.

Earlier in the day, Rohit and nightwatchman Ravichandran Ashwin added 41 runs without losing a wicket before Murphy struck. Bowling round the wicket, he beat Ashwin’s defence to trap him leg before wicket.

Murphy’s law reigned supreme as the young off-spinner continued bowling round the wicket, creating a difficult angle for Indian batters to work on. He strangled Kohli down the leg-side right after lunch to leave India in a precarious position. After India debutant Suryakumar Yadav was bowled by Lyon, the home side were 168-5 and the two sides were evenly matched on the field.

Ravindra Jadeja, whose slow left-arm orthodox spin yielded 5-47 on day one, then joined forces with the captain to gain a substantial lead over Australia. After Rohit was dismissed off a corker from his opposite number, Pat Cummins, Jadeja (66*) hung around and helped the tail wag to stretch India’s advantage.

After debutant Srikar Bharat fell leg before to Murphy, Jadeja got good support from Gujarat all-rounder Axar Patel. In face of Jadeja and Ashwin's excellence, Patel had little role to play with the ball yesterday but the left-handed batter shined with the bat on day two. He hit eight boundaries in his 52*. This equals Patel's highest score at this level.

Jadeja-Patel partnership added 81 crucial runs for India, helping the home side lead by 144 runs at the end of day’s play.

It is pathetic to see Indian TM keep backing players who have been struggling for 3 years. Kohli, Pujara should earn their spots. Cannot be automatically picked every series.

Sachin averaged 32.3 after his last century and retired 2.5 years after that century. Current guys are going on for ever. Kohli already 3.5 years.

All the super star players overstay their welcome for commerical reasons. MSD is another one. Their brand value allow them to stay longer than they are needed. They don't care about their legacy ruined. Finally Kohli and Rohit have been shown the door in T20.

2 years can be a fair time coz in the first year you never know, could be a bad season. If you are still struggling after 2 years, and you are old then there would not be a comeback. Better retire. Dhoni retired timely in tests but overstayed for LOIs. Virat is even worse.

If Axar and Jadeja can score 50's, it means pitch is not as bad as some are accusing it to be.
