Gill is not a test class opener...atleast not in this part of the world. He should bat in the middle order
 
We are scoreless for quite a few overs, recipe for wickets.

He is not an opener will thrive @ 5 and can move down to 4 once Kohli hangs his pads.
 
Listening to Ravi Shastri after long time. He is very very poor commentator. India produce the worst commentators in the world.
 
Love watching cricket in England but Indians in the stands ruin the mood. They should just stop showing the Indian crowd.
 
This is good batting. The idea is to bat two days. Hopefully, both of them bat for 300 balls.

i guess he still gives some mighty fine insights. much more than the likes of Bazid' the drone', Mike 'Dawlance' Haysman, urooz'tapal tea' mumtaz.
but yeah, i do agree sometimes he's also cliched and drone like

not necessarily. sometimes the bat scraping against the pitch or pads at the same instant when ball passes bat might cloud ones mind and judgement if one nicked or not
 
No better sight than watching two batters play for 400 balls and hit a 80 odd. Where is Nick Compton for England?

Yes agreed but wasnt the case on that occasion. Bat was far from the body

If i remember correctly i think his catches were dropped in that innings definitely one catch was dropped or maybe even more than one.
 
Well bowled by England for the most part. Anderson and Potts have looked excellent. Poor drop from Crawley but also two solid catches. With a bit of grass on the pitch, the overheads, and a spot of rain in the air there is plenty in the conditions for the English seamers today.

I know he was out of form. However, he did good in county cricket recently (Rizwan was in the same team).

He seems to be in good form now.

Probably, but that's normal for Pakistan so they can help these non entities look like ATGs.
 
The onus is on England to force a result here.

India would be happy with a draw even if it is due to rain.

Remember, India would have won the 1st test in Nottingham had rain not intervened and this game would have been a dead rubber :)

That i agree 100 pc. we should have shot the series 4-1 if not for covid and rain. for the 4th test which was not played due to covid running rampant in the indian camp contrary to popular opinion on this blog where words like 'running away' 'cowardice' have been used like sanitizer in recent times, jim grumpy was shot in the 4th test at the oval he had nothing in the tank being taken for plenty in 2nd innings @ oval, robinson was limping, broad prat was ineffective & had outlived his petulant sense of entitlement - even though i rate him a genius and legend, Eng had negligible/less effective spinners to speak off, in the batting, burns and sibley were cooked, Hameed was not up to facing the pressure, Root was the only rock, bairstow was shot, buttler was nowhere, we lost a golden oppurtunity to win 4-1.
i sincerely hope realistically speaking we get away with a draw but seems very hard. Our guys are punch drunk on a surfeit of T20 courtesy the ipl , we've lost several critical personnel and several of us are on their last legs (Cue che pu who needs a big innings come the second innings)-we are just ripe for the taking...good luck India..show the fire...cheers

This should be the last match Pujara plays for India.

Shubman The Overhyped needs to be dropped as well.

They should consider the likes of Mayank Agarwal and Sarfaraz Khan now. About time!
 
The good part is that it has almost stopped raining.
The bad part is that it is still very, very dark.
 
Anderson have always done well vs India and nothing changes today as well.
 
Outfield looking better. Hopefully some play again soon, unless the rain comes back. :/

Mayank is worse than Gill in seam friendly conditions. And he's 31. No need to go back to him now. Sarfraz will be nowhere close to the playing XI until he improves his fitness drastically.
 
Losers scheduled ipl on March April .And scheduled real cricket in rainy season . Just like 2019 worldcup.

Just last week England was beating NZ for fun chasing massive 2nd innings targets. In reply, India fields a below average team to challenge England in their own den :virat1

It was too good a delivery that cut back in sharply. Would have gotten even better players than Vihari.

Fact still remains that Vihari is not good enough to play as a batsman alone in Indian team.
 
How much did McCullum play a role in this rejuvinated Indian team? Before the NZ series, England Test team looked really poor. Now they are back to being world class team once again.
 
Kohli the batsman is finished for over 2 years now. Only we have the capability to carry so much deadwood in team for premier format of the game.
 
I think we'll struggle to reach 140....any thing over wold be a bonus

You cannot drop him just like MSD. He will be carried for another 5 years before a decision is made.

We carried Dhoni for at least 4 years. If Kohli allows himself to be carried anything beyond WC '23 then he'd have passed Dhoni in selfishness stakes.
 
Virat gets out pushing at the ball on the front foot again. Rahul and Rohit played so much better last season. Later and right under the eyes.
 
Oh damn Virat's average has fallen down to 49.72 and he is stuck at 27 centuries in test cricket.I really hope he gets to 50 ODIs centuries
 
Even WC '23 should be a long shot for Kohli, ideally. There is so much degeneration in his overall game in all formats.
 
Our batting in all formats has gone to dogs ever since Kohli took over as captain which is a shame. He should have enriched our batting not made it shallow.
