What's new

India reach Stumps on 338-7 in the 5th Test after Pant's stunning 146

I didn't expect Kohli to have such a long lean patch.

There was a time when he was looking good to overtake Tendulkar.

Things can change very quickly in cricket.

Good positive batting from both Iyer and Pant. Playing negative will only get batsman out.

I forgot this was on.

England going on with four medium pace swingers. Hmmm. Potts has got Kohli though.

Jimmy has always been our tormentor in chief. Today is no different.

All hopes again on best Indian test batsman on current form- Rishabh Pant :inti

And Dravid was saying he is absolutely satisfied with our preparation for this test! Shows his clulessness.

Can Lord Thakur belt a half century out of nowhere like he did last year?

As a fan of cricket i miss kohli of old. Why hasnt he been able to make a comeback? Is he over trying?

God save our test team if Pant is our best test batsman.

Everyone thought that t20 will be Pant's strong suit. But surprisingly Tests proved to be his strongest format.
The so called Test specialists have been atrocious.

Billings' fantastic catch to get rid of Iyer.

It could be his reflexes slowed down a bit. He is a front foot player who likes to meet the ball with the full face of the bat. That kind of batting only works if you have quick feet and hands.

Iyer is not suited to Test Cricket. He is playing international cricket from last 3-4 years and his technical weaknesses are exposed. He needs some time away to fix it. If you keep playing all games, you won't get the time to solve this problem.

I am surprised he even made it to the Test squad. He is not a Test match player and his form in T20's has also been very poor.

waht terrible weather here. awful conditions. you need so much luck with conditions. this country is a joke.

Not much swing, it's seam thats causing Indian flat track bullies the problem. Then again Indian seamers will also thrive in these conditions so stop complaining!

As long as it stays cloudy when England bats, Indian fans would be fine.

Whenever the Sun has peaked out, batting looks easy. The moment Sun hides, it becomes difficult for batsmen.

It has swung more in the afternoon. But it was mainly seam movement which has hurt our batting most of the time.

If we win, we would be the undisputed best team of this generation and best team on current form with test series wins in Australia, England, Sri Lanka and West Indies and not lost anything at home.

Australia drew in England, yet to beat India and lost last time in South Africa in the sandpaper series and also have lost home series to India and South Africa.

New Zealand, England, South Africa and Pakistan are clearly behind.

So Australia's recent wins in Pak and SL don't count

indian batsmen are awful. that much is clear. except one or 2 players and maybe thakur who can hit big.
its the conditions. it needs to stop being cloudy and drizzly. its a farce. joke weather.

Say whatever but Shastri is a brilliant commentator. His voice is vert good for commentary...makes the game lively. I think after Benaud, Lawry and Greig, I would put Shastri as the best ever commentator.

Indian lower order is no mug with bat , they have won lot of games . Underestimating them is a big folly.

I would put Nasser Hussain and Rob Key ahead of Shastri. Both are very entertaining.

If its about voice he cant beat mark nicholas. Made for broadcast

Tony Greig had such a great voice as did Tony Cozier.

Rishabh Pant in test cricket is making a strong case to be in an Indian all time test XI. The number of great knocks he has played away from home in overseas conditions is phenomenal simply.

yes but they had sundar etc playing at the time. now its just bumrah shami and siraj.
These 3 are generally hopeless with bat. However these 2 (Shami & Bumrah) demoralised England so much with their bat in one of the tests last summer that England eventually lost that test.

However that was an exception rather than a norm.

thats what i said. cant rely on them. they are tail enders.

Well played Rishabh Pant! Another 50 in pressure situation from 98/5.

Back when I was a kid, one of the early matches I can recall was India vs Australia where Australia were 99/5 and from there Gilchrist came and hit a blitzering 100 with Hayden supporting at other end and Australia just took the game by the scruff. I felt pretty sad and disappointed that day watching the game.

Rishabh Pant is perhaps the closest to Gilchrist in test cricket and he has showed it again. :inti

He will be even more effective if he gets to play more with openers/top order batsmen! At the moment India doesn't have proper batters who can hold their end...

Virat Kohli has now gone 72 innings in international cricket without scoring a hundred….his last being 136 vs BD in Kolkata in Nov 2019!!

Still a fantastic record. The only batsman who averages 50 plus in all three formats (well almost in tests)

Credit to Jadeja as well. He has improved his batting a lot.

he is struggling for form. i think he will come back. eventually.

88 runs partnership between these 2. Great going. They need to be there for another 70-80 runs at least.

Pant is a giant in Test cricket , he has played more than one match winning innings

Since his debut, nobody has scored more runs at a higher average than Pant has. The only ones who average higher are the likes of Rohit and Jadeja. Puts the likes of Pujara, Vihari, Rahane and even Kohli to shame.

What a blessing young brother Pant is. Anyone who criticises him has really no credibility :inti

who will replace the great man? what talent is there? its best to stick with kohli. he has the experience and ability to play vs pace.
You won't know it unless you try it.

But I know very well that he won't be dropped such is his vice like grip (still) on Indian cricket.

100 partnership - superb from Pant and Jadeja.

Shows why it's crucial to have guys who can score big in the middle-order.

Why is Manjrekar always there when I tune in?

Pant has that extra second of time which allows him to really take on the bowling and play his drives with ease.

Jadeja perhaps doesn't have that extra second and hence it is important for him to leave deliveries well and he has done it pretty well this game.

Broad has been toothless vs top teams in last 2-3 years with bowl. Still a second fiddle to Anderson.
