What's new

India to take part in Champions Trophy; BCCI not to send legal notice to ICC [Update Post #86]

What did I say? The BCCI know they need the money more than the other participating nations need them. Useles headline grabbing by a has been board.

They were always going to play in the CT LOL. India need international cricket and need to be playing in icc tournaments.

I never took there threat seriously. Will be interesting to see what cricketjoshila has to say about this news.

Lol, so that's all what BCCI's aukaad. Doing all the drama , empty threats of a bow out and bullying tactics to force the other party to agree with their demands but eventually fell flat on their face.

Great solidarity shown by ICC and other boards which has brought down BCCI. Now they will try to save face and pretend as if they took this step for greater good of Indian Cricket and fans.

This also shows that BCCI needs ICC more than ICC needs BCCI.

If that's true, then let's put our cricket hats on, and support Indian team till they grab the trophy once again. :amir

kudos to ICC(manohar), they really pulled a fast one on BCCi, they were not prepared for it which can be seen how taken aback they were. Alas, boycotting CT always meant throwing the baby out with the bath water, besides, there are other means to avenge us.

meanwhile BCCI to BCB, WICB and ZC: “That cold ain’t the weather. That’s death approaching.”

Well this is awkward...

All the CJ's, Rohit's, bleaf27's, Napa's etc. who were running around PP thumping their chest demanding BCCI boycott the CT, keep their money and use it to take over the world. All that whilst - in some cases - having the audacity to call other Indian posters such as Bhaag Viru Bhaag and Amit "alleged Indians", simply because they didn't agree with the formers plan of global take over...

Looks like BCCI have realised their place in world cricket and just have to shut up and play. Would be good if some BCCI fans on here could also just shut up and talk about cricket rather than talking big about the politics of cricket with no logic, just bravado.

I know CJ I know! The meeting is on the 7th and we will wait to see what happens then! Sure...you do that

:harby:kohli2
Well that's the word you paraded, I could very well say abstain & you wouldn't be any more right then either.

Also congo to the gutless Johri or whoever the ____ he's bl_____ :D

oh no.. why are they going into submission now.. should have shown some spine and made IPL as a threat to ICC events... Should have supported the desire of the chest thumping fans and made 9 months IPL

It's ok bro, we are hosting 2021 champions trophy and 2023 World cup. Invoking MPA will be bad for other teams but even worse for us as we are hosting next two major tournaments. Our lovely neighbours can sing a merry for now, as windbaggery doesn't cost much.

Meantime, let BCCI recuperate from current SC debacle and plan out next steps with a proper planning. The demarcation between being brash yet smart and being egoistic noob is a fine one.

Why not others???!!!

Quite simple, we need CA and CSA (and NZ to some extent) for IPL as their players make up 60-70% of our foreign players. ECB is well affluent without us, Sl at least supported us on governance vote, PCB is irrelevant as we don't really have any relation with them. That leaves us with the aforementioned boards and one shouldn't be surprised if some tour to such boards are cancelled on penitentiary grounds.

oh no.. why are they going into submission now.. should have shown some spine and made IPL as a threat to ICC events... Should have supported the desire of the chest thumping fans and made 9 months IPL
Yeah too bad we din't decide to sue the ICC like PCB threatens every other day, could've made us even more legit.

Lol had always said something would be worked out? Both BCCI and ICC need each other and people running them are not fools and don't take emotional decisions like people here on PP..

I wish they had.

They could take the Gayles and the Pollards with them.

But of course Manohar knew that the BCCI was bluffing all along.

It was a game of chicken, with the BCCI pretending to be rich when in fact its overspending made it cash-poor to the point of being dependent upon every other country subsidising them with inflated ICC welfare handouts.

And so the first round of reversing the Big Three ambush is over.

But to be honest, more important than overturning the financial state of daylight robbery by the Big Three is reversing the governance model by which they controlled every ICC committee and awarding themselves hosting rights for every single ICC tournament.

Was bound to happen. Didn't think BCCI had it in them to not let their country play in the CT and future ICC events. The backlash from the masses and the media wasn't something they could handle.

As usual, all talk and no actions. They won't survive without the ICC and they know it.

I am disappointed with BCCI. This leadership can't take any risks. I wish srini was here. He was needed in times like these.

This lost Battle will hamper BCCI a lot. It's a long term big loss for Indian cricket.

Lols what would the corrupt Srini have done?

Good for Indian cricket that It's not run by guys like some of the posters here.

This is not real news, BCCI is not PCB that they will back down, ICC probably gave into all of BCCI's demands for India to even acknowledge that CT exists.

Lol had always said something would be worked out? Both BCCI and ICC need each other and people running them are not fools and don't take emotional decisions like people here on PP..
BCCI needs ICC? every Indian would love to have months long IPL, just like EPL. BCCI and Indians can easily survive solely on IPL, but I doubt if ICC can survive without BCCI. So BCCI doesn't need ICC at all.

Yeah too bad we din't decide to sue the ICC like PCB threatens every other day, could've made us even more legit.

Well u guys threatened to make IPL 9 months long vs the ICC events :amir2
I think PCB already sent the legal papers claiming 60mn$ as a loss incurred.

It is combination of many things (failing to build rapport with other boards + greedy on money and failing to give attention to the game of cricket + negotiation skills were not up to the mark this time) However for every bullying there is a saturation point. ICC stood up and said "u r fired" #Trump :ashwin

It's not possible in a sport like cricket.. I wrote a post about it sometime back can't be bothered to search but few main points were:

1. 8-9 month long IPL means 16-24 teams.
2. Not enough talent to have a competitive league.
3. India is not U.K. The reason people play in EPL is because standard of living is very high and lot of players come from poor countries like Africa/Brazil etc so for them uk is heaven in cricket it is opposite, cricket is a rich persons sport so most players from England/Australia/NZ might not leave their home and families to live in India for 8-9 months a year.
4. Comparison with NBA is useless since USA produces the best NBA players and difference between 2nd best country is huge, in cricket India does not produce the best players and even if we assume we do the gap between us and Aus/eng isn't that big..
5. Cricket has been an international sport not a club type sport, it's difficult to judge how majority fans will reach without World Cup or international matches..

Both BCCI and ICC depend on each other, BCCI is not run by stupid people they know more than you and me here if year long IPL was possible they would have went that ways..

Congrats to Shashank Manohar his friends will remember him for 1 year and PP for 6 months.

Shout out to the BCCI defenders who got left hanging out to dry.... so much for BCCI boycotting international cricket. :))) :))) :))) :)))

Slap on the face of joshila types from BCCI :133::133::133:

Ahhh thank you for the boardroo 101 - here is the summary of the lecture:

1) Complain, moan & throw a tantrum about not getting what you want
2) Threaten to stop working
3) Realise that you need the your employer and what they offer more than your employer needs you
4) Shut up, suck it up& get back to work.

Thanks man for that valuable lesson

Just one question .... have you found out ICC's main source of income yet ? I guess not. Once you do you will not show up here. Checkmate.

With all this talk of boycotting ICC and what not, BCCI has come begging on their knees. :misbah

It was always bound to happen considering there can't be a 9 month or 1 year IPL.

BCCI know there would be no NOC's for foreign players and apart from the West Indies rejects or retired oldies, it would mean another T20 Ranji Trophy with pompous Ambanis as cheerleaders.

IPL is what it is due to foreign players and if they don't show up who the hell is going to watch "bechare" Kumars and Dindas who seem to be suffering from malnutrition. :sree

BCCI needs ICC? every Indian would love to have months long IPL, just like EPL. BCCI and Indians can easily survive solely on IPL, but I doubt if ICC can survive without BCCI. So BCCI doesn't need ICC at all.

Yet another delusional Indian poster. Come up with something new, man! It's getting a little boring now.

Just one question .... have you found out ICC's main source of income yet ? I guess not. Once you do you will not show up here. Checkmate.

what is the difference between murder and death penalty? that is the difference between boycott and withdrawal thro' a contract.

I'm sure this will go over your head.

his answer fits the facts

Why don't you answer the following questions.

1) do you know what the MPA is?

2) What are the legal ramifications to an organization like ICC for breaking the MPA?

3) is the change in constitution in the middle of an contract period a violation of the MPA.

Smart money says you dodge these questions

:)) :))

I love how every couple of hours a few more of BCCI's cheer leaders come crawling out with statements as if they have got something new to add to the discussion but end up simply spewing the same garbage as everyone else.

Tusker did you seriously say "checkmate" after asking the dumbest question the thread? :)) :))

Its hilarious that the new trend for BCCI fans is to claim that this isn't a boycott

So lets see these thriving questions you've asked kdo.....whatever your name is:

1) do you know what the MPA is?
Members Participation Agreement

2) What are the legal ramifications to an organization like ICC for breaking the MPA?
The BCCI can terminate the MPA if the ICC makes material changes in the resolution of 2014

Source: http://www.thehindu.com/sport/crick...cc-bcci-row-over-revenues/article18401269.ece

3) is the change in constitution in the middle of an contract period a violation of the MPA.
Refer to answer in Q2

CJ and the BCCI fan club have been the ones who have been dodging the questions so far mate :)

Now lets break this down:

- ICC changed the financial model with regards to the distribution of its revenue
- BCCI didn't like it so they protested by threatening to terminate the MPA,which - as the article in the link to Q2 says "revoking the MPA would result in India’s absence from all ICC competitions for juniors, men and women till the ICC World Cup in 2023, starting from Champions Trophy in June in England."

So in summary, BCCI weren't happy with what ICC did so in protest they threatened to terminate the MPA and as a result boycotting the ICC competitions.

Please refer to definition of "Boycott" in the above post.

Now - let's do something the BCCI can't do and look and the bigger picture.

What difference does it make if BCCI withdraw from the CT or boycott the CT? Either way - bottom line is - the BCCI don't show up at the CT - right? Well - I'll answer that question for you. CJ was saying it was not a boycott, since in his opinion if BCCI were not to show up at the CT they would be within their rights (yes - sure I agree with that), but as a consequence ICC will not do anything to retaliate.

Now - my turn to ask a question - if the BCCI boycott the CT, do you think the ICC will retaliate in some shape, way or form?

If you're answer to that question is "Yes", then why the hell are you arguing about if its a boycott or not?!

If your answer to that question is "No", then - first of all - Hahahaha. Secondly, please elaborate. Do you think the BCCI can simply pull out of the CT and not face repercussions?

See this is embarrassing stuff. What did we get in the end? That is why I was asking it to solve behind the closed doors and not give empty threats. Yet some of you wanted to teach Bangladesh a lesson or boycott CT. We can't live without ICC and other international players. Hopefully you will keep boycotting CT and won't post it in the India vs Pak match threads.

I am excited for India vs Pak match now. :shezzy :kohli

1) Will ICC retaliate for BCCI's absence from CT? Yes. they should

The reason for semantics is the legal consequence of the terms.

boycott implies that BCCI is legally in hot water. withdrawal based on MPA breach does not.

As far as retaliation goes, Legally, all ICC can do is throw BCCI out, there nothing more they can do. They also have opened themselves to legal consequence by breaching the contract from 2014.

Personally, I'm hoping for a full blown war between ICC and BCCI. would settle so many questions once and for all. Only if there is way to get rid of/shut out soft idiots like CoA, Tendulkar, dravid, kumble etc.

[more bakwas snipped]

So to summarize all you got is just more bluster and bakwas ? Hawa Mahal much ? :)))

Good for Cricket, boycotts doesn't help any sports. Compared to Seoul '88 or Barcelona '92, Moscow '80 & LA '84 was like domestic events. Also, BCCI was setting a wrong precedence - it's like buying vote from poor people by throwing money previous night of election day. That actually made smaller boards almost dependent on BCCI for their operation while the smallest board (mentally & intellectually) begging every year twice for a tour from IND. I am sure, smaller boards will start to think of making their money from own source from now on.

I would have loved to see India pulling out for once though - I had a desperate desire to know exactly how much of that 70% (arguably 85%) of ICC revenues lost for India boycotting an ICC event. Other myths are probably basted already with that 9-1 slap ...................

Every indian would love to have IPL? Sorry bro there are other Aadhar Card Holder indians here too who will disagree with your claim.

BCCI and indian fans surviving solely on IPL only is like a desi guy surviving solely on pizza only. Sorry again bro but some indians want to watch international cricket and survive on roti also.

Watching too many pyjama league matches and eating too many pizzas can really disturb your mind and digestion system respectively.

Trust me bro - you calling it a boycott or not has very little impact on the legal side of things.

As for the BCCI being in hot water - well the legal side of things was never being discussed & if the BCCI withdraws from the CT they will be in hot water with the ICC

To be fair I don't want a full blown war between the ICC and BCCI. Mainly because I quite like having the Indian team around and I don't think the BCCI can survive going to war with the ICC and its memebers. The same will happen to them as happened to the likes of Kerry Packer and ICL. There's power in numbers and to make money in cricket you have to have other cricket boards on board.

So to summarize all you got is just more bluster and bakwas ? Hawa Mahal much ? :)))

Good comeback bro.

Very typical of the BCCI fans

We should be the ones who boycott international cricket till we get a good enough team :srt

Pakistan can never have a good enough or full strength team because the talented guys are always left out to play in the domestic cricket. :misbah

You do realize that Kerry packer accomplished his goals right? CA came crawling back.

Unless you don't know much about the issues between Kerry Packer and CA.

ICL? the main antagonist of ICL was BCCI and they buried with..... wait for it IPL.

You sound clueless in your posts.

The one thing most of our Neighbors can't get in their thick skulls is ICC can and will survive without India as they did previously, before IPL was conceived.

India however do need ICC as IPL is nothing without foreign players and you can't play among yourselves for eternity.

So what if players/boards get paid a few million less they will still be well off and ˇsurviveˇ without a BCCI dictatorship governing them like sheep. :77:

I am disappointed with BCCI. This leadership can't take any risks. I wish srini was here. He was needed in times like these.

This lost Battle will hamper BCCI a lot. It's a long term big loss for Indian cricket.

True but to be fair BCCI had to face against one of its own not like some diplomat administrator pushed us against the wall.

There's a synergy between the two, but obviously the nation would back down. Not saying the ICC doesn't make a ton of money because of India, but they wouldn't be bare without them either. I think that's what this shows.

If a board controlled cricket and had all the power, it would set a very bad precedent. Of course money is the end goal, but such blatant bowing to a board would look extremely bad on the ICC.

Yes - but the point is that this time the BCCI does not have enough money to buy whole teams and the boards.

Like Packer and ICL, BCCI may be able to buy the services of individual players, but the BCCI do not have enough money to buy whole boards away from the ICC.

Also ICL got buried because it was opposed by BCCI AND all other cricket boards AND ICC

How will IPL fear if it is opposed by ICC and all the other boards?

:))

The 'fake indian' has spoken :yk3

But bug but...IPL will generate enough money to pay all the cricket boards and host BCCIs own World Cups :inzi

Why pay other boards when we can make 4 indian teams and play with each other? We will generate 4 times the revenue we are generating currently.

let me repeat, Kerry packer won the battle. Lets end that discussion.

ICL stuck around for 3 years with miniscule resources with many international players coming over.

Lets take BCCI revenue out of ICC and other boards, say 50% from ICC tournaments and loss of revenue from bilateral tours of India, I like BCCI chances. Boards like SLC, WI, BCB and pak will thrown aside like used toilet paper by CA and ECB.

Too bad the WKK brigade in India is still around to meddle things up.

Yes a retired Inzi, a number of discarded/retired Pakistani & Bengali players and retired has been from other countries around the world came to play the ICL - how long will IPL last with such players? How much will they make?

Ummm follow up questions - BCCI became a financial power house around mid 2000's, specially around 2007 when the IPL was born. Did the ICC not exist before then? Was the ICC bank corrupt before then? Did the associates not get funding before them?

And if BCCI was to take their ball and go home, enlighten me as to why CA & ECB would throw aside boards like SLC, BCB, WICB & PCB? Does BCCI pay ECB for England to play Pakistan? :narine

Before ending the discussion let's mention that BCCI doesn't have enough money to buy what they need - Kerry Packer did

you ignorance shines thro'. Kerry packer borrowed boat load of money to put the series together. He was actually seen counting cars in the parking lot to keep track of attendance.

BCCI has more than enough resources to last 3-4 years. In a game of attrition, I'm confident BCCI will survive.

Ummm follow up questions - BCCI became a financial power house around mid 2000's, specially around 2007 when the IPL was born. Did the ICC not exist before then? Was the ICC bank corrupt before then? Did the associates not get funding before them?

BCCI power picked in the 2007? Where you born in 2000's or something? BCCI has been winning every batle with ICC since early 2000's. Read on the player endorsement issue in early 2000 champions trophy

The MPA of 2006 was another great example, where Lalit Modi and irony of all Irony, one Mr. shashank Manohar, beat ICC up mercilessly.

Ignorance is not a virtue.

And if BCCI was to take their ball and go home, enlighten me as to why CA & ECB would throw aside boards like SLC, BCB, WICB & PCB? Does BCCI pay ECB for England to play Pakistan? :narine

Becos, that is what they do and that is what they always done. Look after their interest b4 anything else. Why else did they team up with BCCI in 2014. gain Money. why throw BCCI under the bus? gain power.

Between holding on to their power/money and supporting the like so SLC,BCB, WI and PCB, they will always choose the former.

If the ICC revenues goes down by 50% and only money making for ECB and CA is the Ashes, they will toss every one over board.

One has to be a village idiot to not realize that

I didn't realise you needed the obvious fed to you :yk

It's always hilarious when the BCCI cheer leaders try and suggest that others are dogging questions

Ummm what are you on about? In the end ICC got what they want whilst BCCI walked away with an amount which - according to them - wasn't enough to run the BCCI. It doesn't sound like BCCI are the boss. More a case of BCCI realising they need the ICC and the ICC members more than ICC needs BCCIs money

It doesn't sound like BCCI are the boss. More a case of BCCI realising they need the ICC and the ICC members more than ICC needs BCCIs money

Do you realize that BCCI Members have *NOT* yet voted on this matter ? BTW enjoy the pwnage ... :))

you ignorance shines thro'. Kerry packer borrowed boat load of money to put the series together. He was actually seen counting cars in the parking lot to keep track of attendance.

BCCI has more than enough resources to last 3-4 years. In a game of attrition, I'm confident BCCI will survive.

Ah so you think BCCI can pay the ICC members more than $132m each...even though they are throwing a tantrum because the ICC is giving them $400m and they want $500m, because - in the words of the BCCI secretary - $400m isn't enough for BCCI to function. Your confidence won't help BCCI survive - facts and figures will.

:)) :)) I love how your argument is "BCCI has had money since early 2000s - not mid 2000s!!" :)) Still didn't answer my question - did ICC not run before the BCCI had money? Also learn to read and stop making a fool out of yourself - 2006 is mid 2000s... do you not have the mental capacity to figure out how ayes work?

Sounds like theirs only one idiot around here and he's going around thumping his chest bragging about the BCCI and his feelings are getting hurt since he's realising he's talking trash but has too big an ego to accept it...ironically just like the PCB.

Did CA & ECB not only against SL, Pak, WI etc. before the big 3?

You keep coming out with "checkmate" and "pwnage" yet are still to come out with a single sensible statement. Your posts are so cringeworthy - its embarsssing.

Anyway - so you think the BCCI members will vote against sending their team to the CT? Or do you know the result is inevitable but you just wanna prolong your humiliation?

My humiliation ? :)) LoL Iam not so shallow to let what happens with BCCI affect me in any way let alone humiliate me. Neither do I associate my pride with any such organizations or sporting teams.

To answer your question ... the vote is to decide BCCI should not revoke the MPA. Whether or not it will include CT will also be decided tomorrow but there is a issue of timing as the notice to ICC needs to be sent before 30 days. So there is a good chance that India will play in the CT but what the future holds is something that will unravel over a period of time beginning in the next few hours .... so hold tight and enjoy the ride :)

And just because we troll volatile Pakistani posters here doesnt mean that the people who run the show at BCCI/Supreme Court are bull headed. Read the story thats on CricInfo especially the last 2 paragraphs.

Lol had always said something would be worked out? Both BCCI and ICC need each other and people running them are not fools and don't take emotional decisions like people here on PP..

Probably the best summary here.

Although I'll wait for the actual squad annoucement before I believe anything for a fact.

But good news if true. No one team/board is bigger than the game. Doesn't matter if you bring in 100% of the revenue, you can only take an amount that lets others survive. You are thriving already.

Don't think it has been confirmed yet?

Champions Trophy Squad on Monday, Pullout Still On Cards: BCCI

Speaking to Cricketnext, a senior BCCI official confirmed that the Indian team will be selected for the tournament on Monday even though the board hasn’t changed its stance on pulling out of the mega event.

“Yes, the team will be selected on Monday as we want to work in tandem with the Committee of Administrators and don’t want to delay the process of team selection. But yes, that doesn’t change our stance as far as withdrawing from the tournament is concerned,” he said.

When asked if that wasn’t a contradictory action if the ultimate decision was to pull out, the official said: “To be fair, announcing the team doesn’t have a bearing on BCCI’s final decision on whether India will play in the tournament or not. The agenda for Sunday’s meeting remains the same.”

Why what wrong has those boards done in this case? They were all screwed over back in 2014 by BCCI, ECB and CA who messed everything up by shoving their Big 3 garbage down the throats of everyone else and looting the place. The only difference is that ECB and CA played their cards right and came off looking somewhat like saviours of the game in the end, whereas BCCI just kept shooting themselves on the foot.

Though times ahead for BCCI. but you do realize that BCCI will ultimately get what it is seeking. There isn't too many people who can handle the influence of BCCI well. Most will succumb to the pressure.

This time, bad luck for BCCI as it is one of their own.

BCCI won't get what it's seeking because what they are seeking is absolutely ridiculous. They could have however most likely walked away with at least $445 mil which Rai had negotiated with the other members well in advance. But BCCI’s directive going into it was to either seek deferment of a vote or vote against anything less than $570 mil. So negotiating a workable solution was off the table in the first place. Also BCCI certainly didn’t get the rough end of the stick as it’s propaganda machine would have you believe. When you actually compare apples with apples they are easily the biggest beneficiaries. Plus add the hosting fees of $100+ mil for 2021 CT and 2023 WC and we are talking around $500-550 mil minimum. So not exactly sure how BCCI is hard done by here.

 • Before the Big 3 ambush in 2014 BCCI actually used to get 7.5% of the share. Which of course more that quadrupled to 33-34% under Big 3.

 • The current offer on the table for BCCI is 23% which is of course more than triple the share BCCI used to get before Big 3.

 • The whole purpose of what's going on right now is to rollback those ridiculous Big 3 changes made by Srinivasan and co. However BCCI is still hell bent on the 33% and wants the full 10% set aside for the associates to make that happen.

 • So as it stands now CA, CSA, PCB, SLC, NZC, WICB and BCB will all receive around the same share as they used to before the Big 3 fiasco.

 • ZC is set to lose around 1.5% and Associates are set to lose roughly 15%

 • ECB is set to gain around 1% and BCCI is set to gain around 15.5%

My Goodness me..... What a horrendous muck up it would have been to boycott the CT (if they were planning to do).....

This is beyond comprehension tbh.....What were they trying to achieve ???

See this is embarrassing stuff. What did we get in the end? That is why I was asking it to solve behind the closed doors and not give empty threats. Yet some of you wanted to teach Bangladesh a lesson or boycott CT. We can't live without ICC and other international players. Hopefully you will keep boycotting CT and won't post it in the India vs Pak match threads.

I am excited for India vs Pak match now. :shezzy :kohli

Without other international players IPL is just another domestic league like others currently running in ind. How much those current leagues of India earn??? Guess how much money can ipl earn without international players??? At least nothing compared to current. I wonder how a person can think that any country can run cricket without other cricketing nations. Delusionals.
