India tour of Australia (2024/25)

I am seeing some reports on Dhruv Jurel's inclusion in India's playing XI for the first BGT Test as a pure-batter.

It means Pant is the keeper and KL is not playing. RIGHT??

As per reports:

Rohit Sharma will travel with the Indian team to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, but his participation in the first Test remains uncertain due to personal reasons. The BCCI has included Abhimanyu Easwaran as a backup, and KL Rahul could open alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal if Rohit is unavailable.

The team is also dealing with the aftermath of a 0-3 defeat to New Zealand, with a six-hour review meeting held to discuss the performance and future strategies

Nothing is uncertain as Ritika delivery date is around 18,19 and 20th November if Rohit wanted to not play 1st test ,he would have not travelling with Indian team . he is going to play 1st test then may return to india for few days as gap between 1st and 2nd test is 9 day's .

‘I’m ready to go’: Marcus Harris puts hand up for vacancy with stellar knock as India rue contentious call

Australia A is on track for a series sweep over India A after another eventful day at the MCG as opener Marcus Harris pressed his case for a Test recall with a gritty fifty.

The tourists are 5-73 with an 11-run lead at stumps on day two, with Dhruv Jurel (19*) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (9*) unbeaten overnight.

After a promising start, India A lost five quick wickets in the evening session with Australia A seamers Nathan McAndrew and Beau Webster each snaring two scalps.

Meanwhile, India A opener KL Rahul was left red-faced after leaving a delivery from spinner Corey Rocchiccioli that bowled him through his legs.

The hosts were without Queensland seamer Michael Neser, who was unavailable due to injury.

Earlier, the Australians were bowled out for 223, taking a lead of 62 runs into the second innings.

Test hopeful Harris put in a stellar performance in his bid to become Australia’s second opener this summer, making a fine 74 amid tough conditions on day two.

The Victorian opener brought up his 47th first-class fifty on Friday afternoon — but on 48 not out, survived a desperate appeal from the tourists off spinner Tanush Kotian.

Coming from around the wicket as a right-arm off-spinner, Kotian bowled a stock off-break to Harris, drifting in to the left-hander before turning sharply.

The ball ended up in the hands of first slip — but it was unclear whether it ricocheted off Harris’ edge, or thigh guard.

The umpire’s non-decision didn’t go down well with India A, who were adamant it had found the edge of the Kookaburra blade.

“I hit my pad on the way through,” Harris told reporters at stumps.

“We watched the replay. The boys said they watched it 20 times and couldn’t really tell.

“God’s honest truth I wasn’t sure (if I’d hit it).

“It just went my way.”

Nonetheless, Harris brought up his fifty a couple of balls later — and has now given Australian selectors plenty to think about in the coming days.

His 74 runs came off 138 balls, and produced five boundaries — with the 32-year-old looking particularly comfortable when flicking off his pads or outside off to the off-spin of Kotian.

In many ways, Harris’ score is the equivalent of close to, if not a century given the pitch’s greener nature and heavy overhead conditions for most of his innings; not to mention some accurate seam bowling from India A.

Asked it he’d done enough to get to Perth, Harris replied: “I don’t know.

“I feel like I’ve been batting well, but so have lots of other people.

“If I get called upon I feel like I’m ready to go. If I don’t, then so be it.

“I feel pretty well-equipped. I think maybe if I was in this position 12 months ago, I probably wouldn’t have been able to perform the way I have at the start of this season. My results last year probably said that. So I’ve been proud of that.”

Earlier in the day amid Australia A’s middle-order collapse, Indian bowler Prasidh Kirshna approached umpire Gerard Abood in the 28th over — seemingly hopeful of a ball change in similar scenes to last weeks’ tour game where emotions boiled over.

Abood looked to be unfazed by the question, asking them to continue playing.

“(Looks like they’re) talking about a bit of potential mud on the ball; making sure it’s okay to get it out of the seam,” former Australian player Rob Quiney said on commentary.

“Krishna’s not happy full stop.

“I’m not sure if it’s an aesthetics thing.”

The following ball, Harris defended the ball straight back to Krishna, where the left-arm bowler then wildly threw the ball back in Harris’ direction, resulting in two overthrows.

“A bit of frustration, and it was interesting in the build up to that ball when the ball was given to him there … he wanted the umpire to have a second look at it,” Quiney added.

Harris resumed play on Friday morning on 26 not out as the only unbeaten Test hopeful, with fellow contenders Nathan McSweeney (14 runs) and Cameron Bancroft (3) dismissed late on day one.

Prodigy Sam Konstas joined Harris out in the middle, but fell LBW in the second over of the day for three — before his state teammate Ollie Davies departed for 13 after a rogue attempt to hoick over mid-on.

Tasmanian all-rounder Beau Webster also came and went quickly, nicking off to second slip for five.

It was Queensland wicketkeeper Jimmy Peirson who finally helped Harris stop the run of wicket, putting on 68 for the sixth wicket with the opener before departing for 30.

Australia A begun day two at 2-53, having bowled out India A for just 161 on a juicy MCG wicket thanks to a golden four-wicket haul from Neser.

And while a lower leg injury may appear a slight setback for his international ambitions this summer, both Neser and Scott Boland have been lauded by Australia A teammate Beau Webster for their ‘world-class’ attributes.

Dhruv Jurel was the sole performer with the bat for India A on the opening day’s play, hitting a patient 80 off 186 balls.

Play has started half an hour early today at 10am local time, after rain brought a premature end to yesterday’s play.

Ponting backs India pacer to step up as captain in Rohit’s absence against Australia

Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting believes Jasprit Bumrah has the smarts to operate as both a bowler and a captain during the much-anticipated Test series against Australia.

With the Indian captain Rohit Sharma having stated that he is ‘not sure’ of his availability for the first Test against Australia in Perth later this month, Bumrah is among the likely contenders to lead the team in his stead – the pacer has once previously captained the side, against England in Birmingham in 2022.

ICC Hall of Famer Ponting believes the 30-year-old is experienced enough to take the dual responsibility as the skipper and the leader of India’s pace unit, and cited the example of the current Australian captain Pat Cummins to make a case for the Indian quick.

“Yeah, that (captaincy) is probably the hardest thing for him,” Ponting said on the ICC Review. “I think that was always the question on Pat Cummins when he became the Australian Test captain as well. How much is he going to bowl himself? Is he going to bowl himself too much? Is he not going to bowl himself enough?

“But someone as experienced as Jasprit will understand the times when he needs to be bowling, when he needs to have a spell.”

Ponting also believes that Bumrah would benefit as a captain by the presence of experienced campaigners in India’s Test squad for Australia.

In the 18-member group are the likes of Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Rishabh Pant, all of whom were part of India’s last two Test series triumphs in Australia in 2018/19 and 2020/21.

“In that Indian team, there's a lot of experience around him,” said Ponting.

“And it's really important, I think, that you use the experience around you even when you are the captain, and just ask the appropriate questions at the right time because no matter how much cricket we've played, we're not always going to be right.”

It was the presence of stalwarts such as Adam Gilchrist, Matthew Hayden and Justin Langer around him in the Australian team, Ponting admits, that helped him during his spell as captain.

“I liked to ask the questions of Gilchrist, Hayden, and Langer,” he said. “Ask them where they thought the game was, and what we needed to do.

“At the end of the day, as a captain, you're the one that's making that final decision, but whatever advice you can get along the way can only be good.”

In terms of the pressure on Bumrah as the pace spearhead, Ponting believes the 30-year-old will ‘thrive’ in it, with a place in next year’s final at stake in the five-match Test series.

“Guys like that tend to thrive on the extra pressure and the responsibility,” said Ponting. “He's always been the leader of the attack for a long time anyway. Whether that's red ball, T20 or ODIs, he's the main man.”

Virat Kohli arrives in Perth ahead of 1st Test vs Australia: Squad coming in batches

Star India cricketer Virat Kohli arrived in Perth ahead of the 1st Test vs Australia as part of the Border Gavaskar Trophy series. The 36-year-old was the first one among the jumbo India squad to land in Australia. He quickly whisked away after landing at the Perth airport and will soon be in his practice mode for the all-important series. The Indian team is leaving in two batches for the Border Gavaskar series. As per reports, the Indian team will begin their training at the WACA ground from Tuesday ahead of the Perth Test. However, the venue is on lockdown in a bid to keep the Indian camp strictly behind closed doors.

The first set of batch included players like Shubman Gill, Akash deep, Washington Sundar, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Mohammad Siraj, who are en route to Australia alongside the coaching staff. Meanwhile, Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir addressed a pre-departure press-conference in Mumbai on November 11. The next batch is set to fly out today, Monday. However, India Today learnt that the Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, did not travel with the team and might stay back in India due to the birth of his 2nd child. Uncertainty remains over Rohit's participation in 1st Test and Jasprit Bumrah will lead the side in his absence, as informed by Gambhir.

Kohli was spotted at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai late at night on Sunday. Kohli was accompanied by his wife, Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma, and their children, Vamika and Akaay Kohli. As they stepped out of their car, Kohli requested the paparazzi not to take pictures of Anushka and the kids, emphasising their preference for privacy. However, Kohli himself obliged and posed for photos with the media before heading inside the airport.

Gambhir has backed senior batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma after criticism from former Australia captain Ricky Ponting. Notably, Ponting recently commented on Kohli's form, saying that any other player wouldn't have survived in the team had he scored just two hundreds in five years. Kohli will be aiming to roar back to form vs Australia after a not-so impressive outing in the home Test series.

He wants a red carpet treatment

Guy who averages 30 in the last 5 years. Please welcome him lads.

Clap your hands.

Of all the wickets in Australia, Perth always feels like the most challenging one for visiting teams. Four matches have been played at this ground and Australia have won them all by convincing margins.

And by the looks of it, its going to be another spicy wicket with plenty of pace and bounce.

Shami will feature in the encounter against Madhya Pradesh in Indore which starts on Wednesday, November 13.

India should include shami for BGT after proving his fitness .this is long series and 2nd test starting date is 6 Dec.
