To be honest, I thought India could have chased this total.

That they fell 9 runs short tells about lack of game plan to chase. Yuvraj , Raina and Dhoni all 3 fell at wrong times. That sealed the nail in the coffin for India.

When you lose by just 9 runs, you know you did something horribly wrong.

exactly..with all those deficiencies we are still 3 in ODI rankings...if we play to our potential we will be undisputed number one. but it is lonely at the top and silghtly more interesting being with these average teams..do i dont mind that.

The 'average' score in that ground is around the 305 mark, and considering England's bowling (in)experiences in India over the years and India's batting superheroes who do love these flat roads, you should have chased it honestly.

In fact, minus malakian, I'm sure that from the tenth over most of the England fans already lost faith in their team.
Throwing wickets needlessly, not attacking the spinners enough and letting the RR go up, ... are the little, but decisive, mistakes that made India lost - even if it's by 9 runs.

Yeah Pujara is too good to keep out plus he's in very good nick atm. On flat tracks with these new ODI rules you are better off with a few decent part timers and an extra bat imo. Also I reckon India really need to look at replacing Fletcher in the near future. Not sure what is going on up there but clearly it ain't working.
