India v England | India win 3rd Test against England by 8 wickets in Mohali

Was about to create one,Batty is already gone. Jaddu gets one.

Should had continued with spinners imo,not allowing butler to settle down

I have no hopes from Umesh Yadav. Any wicket he takes is like a bonus.

Averages 38+ and yet we play him.

England 98/5 (44.1 ov)
England trail by 36 runs with 5 wickets remaining

Just a faster version of Ishant Sharma. Mohammad Shami is the only quality Indian pacer but he's so good that he makes up for his bowling partners who are either rubbish (Umesh, Sharma), trundlers (Bhuvi) or brainless (Aaron).

How is J Yadav's bowling like? interesting to note he has took the big wicket of Bairstow in both innings and root's wicket in the 1st innings.

As i type this just seen he has got buttler out too now.

Bhuvi is hardly a trundler now.

Yadav has bowled well this series. Kohli's trying to build an actual pace attack and he's backing the right players.

England's fight and bite is gone. They've batted terribly in this test match and Indian spinners have been excellent and outbowled their counterparts. Well done, India.

Expect a thrashing delivered by India in the next two games, as well as the ODI series that follows the tests.

Pehle ye match toh khatm hone do :danish lower order scoring runs is the trend now a days :yk

Umpires should be allowed to inform players why they made their decision.

Why not? The whole point of reviewing is that you think the umpire is wrong. And what is the point of intentionally making a team lose a review? DRS is to get correct decisions not for using like a chess move

Why?? You think he is very good?

Big yes. Watch what wickets he took this series....the situation....the quality of bowling. English commies were praising him a lot just today. Could have got a 5fer in Rajkot if not for our butterfingers and changed the complexion of that match.

His economy in the last few series is low too.

He is improving.

He is averaging almost 50 this year. He has failed mostly and is keeping a deserving BK out of the XI. Improving doesn't mean he has played very well. And remember, Mohamad Sami was praised by commentators a lot too and he used to bowl some great deliveries without doing anything

I like Yadav and support him. But his performance has been same for a few years now

Yes someone taking 1 or max 2 wickets per innings is something so great. Look at how Sami bowls. umesh averages almost 50 this year and BK averages 11. But no, we should all sing praises of umesh yadav as he bowls a couple of fast balls

Average is an indication of striking ability and bowlers when they improve in that reg will get their average better.

Yadav's average is bad cos he doesn't strike consistently. That will change as he improves.

In the WI series, he averaged 29. In NZ series, it was 60 (but he didn't play in the Kolkata test which is where other pacers got their numbers up....Matt Henry bowled beautifully there and in next test..Kolkata he got like lots of wickets but in 3rd test, he went for 1/110 or something - don't remember).

Here in this series, its 60 but it could easily been 30-35 here.

Look at the wickets Yadav took in this series...

Root in Rajkot
Bairstow in Vizag (which allowed us to breakthrough)
Woakes late in the day in Mohali to collapse England

All the wickets came from AMAZING deliveries and all of wickets were super crucial for us.

Taking such wickets against run of play is not easy and only very few pacers can do that which is why Kohli is backing Yadav. Maybe it will work out and Yadav will repay his faith by improving or maybe it won't work out but what matters is that Kohli is choosing the right pacers for the long term.

I love Bhuvi too and I think he too will get his chance (missed out due to injury). Yadav extracts more reverse so he got more chances here.

We are not a nation blessed with great pace talent. So we have to work with pacers who show potential even if they don't show results in terms of stats now (but Yadav is showing a lot of improvement through bowling quality and his economy in last few series have been excellent - no longer a spray gun except in rare spells)..so that they could to turn into something useful overseas.

Yadav will probably never go on to the league of Stuart Broad (let alone Anderson or the next level ATG)....but he could become a useful 30-35 overseas averaging bowler who strikes for us in crucial times and is part of a well rounded pace attack.

Dhamikka Prasad's average sucks but he really is a very good bowler who delivers for SL a LOT.

Yadav is going to get enough chances under Kohli, thats for sure. Whether he capitalizes is upto him. I think his confidence was dented a lot under Dhoni

Why is India fielding so poorly in test matches?? We are dropping too many catches..slips, wicket keeper especially

Yadav has been impressive off late. Has got his radar right. Was the best pacer in the match on a patta at Rajkot and has outswung every other pacer in the series when it comes to reverse. He has been a bit like Amir, bowled well but without luck, has had many catches dropped off him.:amir

It happened from this series. Somehow seeing England brings the worst out of us. I dont remember any or lots of dropped catches in the WI and NZ series

Unlike Amir, Yadav is good with the old ball too

I know there is a lot of praise for Hameed, but he looks like a strokeless wonder to me. I don't know how he will survive in international cricket for long if he cannot make runs

Yadav is nowhere near Amir.

Give the NZ pitch to Yadav and then see. Amir has looked good for first 2-3 overs when ball swung and then completely ordinary. His own team mates and all Kiwi bowlers have outbowled him completely in almost every match

Lead double digits now. Should India be worried yet?

You lost in SL chasing 170-180 runs, so I will say 150+ is time to get worried. I was following NZ match entire time. How is pitch? Is it turning decently ?

Whattay catch Rahane.....

Nope.

Except the odd ball, its all straight.

Very slow turn with the odd ball keeping low. Almost every batsman looked comfrotable before they got out. Root is gone now so 150 lead looks far away now

Root made no mistake.

That ball was about to hit the centre of the bat but spun.

Rahane pulled off a stunner.

Impressed with this Root's knock.

Even if there wasn't lots of turn, its a tough knock to play under pressure.

India should put at least one rank turner in series.

Root proved yet again why he is a level above most in world cricket. A very good innings but good thing for India is that this also proves that it is possible to play a chanceless inning on this track even now. England in a deep hole now.

The way we threw wickets to Rashid in this series or Moen in the English tour is probably a reason we aren't dishing out turners, also the loss in 2012 is still haunting management i suppose.

Except Anderson everyone is a decent batsman in this English lineup. .
MMHS and Junaids. .had there been a more deeper batting lineup than this one fielded by England in this match in recent Test history?

In the first test match played at Rajkot, 21 off the 22 players had a first class hundred. Shami was the only exception. Broad for Anderson and the English batting becomes deeper yet.

Root's wicket makes it our session,Hameed is getting too comfortable.

78/4 and 78/3 sessions for India so far. Will the Indian supporters be happy with another 78/3 session post lunch? That will leave us 100 to chase.

Only good thing is, he hardly scores runs even when he is set. So the pace will be very slow and wicket just around the corner

Yeah, I dont think 100 chase would be too bad on this pitch. Though would be expecting India to wrap up things before that and win by today

Dravid 210 catches wow defn a legend in slip for us.

Current generation is more athletic and much better in outfield but the previous generation slip catching was outstanding. Dravid and Laxman obviously plus Sachin and Sehwag were also good.

Yeah i think Atherton was talking about something similar yesterday as to how standards of slip catching have fallen compared to ground fielding.

Rahane was instrumental for us in slips vs Saffers and hope he improves even more as its probably the most important fielding position in tests not to forget our keepers dropping at regular intervals.

We will chase anything < 200, so no issues but ideally a chase of < 100 will mean that ENG will not even try for a win. Let's see how it pans out post lunch. Kudos to Haseeb so far!

Rahane is good at slips for spinners but he also suffers from butter fingers when it comes to standing at slips to the seamers.

Root and Hameed aside this has been a pretty feeble 2nd innings effort.

I wonder if Hameed, Woakes and Rash can get us up to a lead of 100. That would at least restore some pride.

3rd straight pitch which is not turning square even on day 4. Next match is in my hometown, hopefully red soil provides us the real turner we all have been hoping to see this series.

Dunno what happened to Ashwin.

Came on to bowl very late.

Hasn't been good today uptil now.

Decent over this.

Gotta bowl them out fast. May take some efforts with the old ball.

Wow.. this is some serious hostility from Shami ! Specially on this track !! :akhtar
