I think an exciting days cricket await us. The score may not be as low as people are making it to be. Plus no KW!!
Also like BK being in our line up today.
Kohli's bowling captaincy has been improving with every game.

Let's remove our opinions till end of day 2

There is good help for pacers on this pitch.

I was expecting a turner at Eden Gardens. No wonder Indian batsmen failed. There is some movement and also pace and carry available for fast bowlers.

Jadeja throws it away. He was looking set for another half century.

Kiwis should persist with Pacers. Nothing for Spinners as yet.

India will be lucky to score 300.

Saha needs to take his chances now.

Shami bhai will not stay for long.

Anything more than 300 is a great score.

We don't have the batsmen to get near it.

Tail is wagging.

Frustrating for Kiwis.

300 looks like a very good score on this pitch.

Saha playing one of his better knocks. Every run he's scoring here with the tail is precious

India might miss Ishant Sharma on this wicket.

This is a total seamers wicket. Short ball will get most batsmen in trouble.

Well, it was good while it lasted.. Now the bowling test awaits, Kiwis may miss KW here. But i really rate Tammy Latham too

Match looks very similar to the 1st Test.

This is the best opportunity for Kiwis to win or draw a Test in this series. This is not your typical Indian dry turner.. In fact, its the opposite of it.

Have huge respect for Saha, inspite of not being so talented i feel the guy has made place for him in the test squad.Hopefully he keeps placing these kind of knocks.

you saying this track would be easier to bat compared to 1st test?

How did you figure out that he is not "talented"?

Unlucky Guptill.

Ball hits elbow and crashes into stumps.

Even Kiwis are struggling with the pace, bounce and swing on this wicket.

Feels like the match is being played on English pitches.

Unlucky Guptill.

Ball hits elbow and crashes into stumps.

Given that Kumar beat him repeatedly in the past couple of overs, I think this is well deserved by Kumar rather than unlucky Guptill

Imagine Starc bowling on this kind of wicket. He would destroy batting lineups in 1 spell.

India cannot afford to prepare these kinds of wickets against Aussies or English.

23/3
The #1 ranking, taken from us by rain, will soon be back where it belongs.

Eden Gardens and Mohali are the livelier Indian pitches. They are not national highways like Nagpur or Ahmedabad.

Eden's pitch curator Prabir Mukherjee was one of the most respected men in Indian cricket. He had steadfastly opposed every demand to prepare flat wickets. In fact, Dhoni got into a tiff with him sometime back over this issue, but in the end the curator won.

Sadly, Mr Muhkerjee passed away on the 1st of june this year. It looks like his successor has decided to keep his legacy.

Can't blame Dhoni. If other countries prepare pitches to suit themselves, why not India?

The pitch still favours India. Just not as much in the first 2-3 days. Spin will come into its own in the last 2 innings. With the odd ball keeping low, it'll be Jadeja I reckon.

Its not like Eden Gardens doesnt favour spin. Spinners, especially Bhajji have been a handful here, but there is also something for fast bowlers if you bowl well. Remember Srinath in 99 against Pak played. Didnt Shami get a 5iver in his debut series here?

But spinners have always been more successful here. So all in all a great pitch.

What I do miss is the 100,000 people in the stadium. Could really make it very intimidating for a touring side when India is on the up. Remember watching the 2001 test and the packed stadiums. This stadium feels soulless comparatively.

Nice to see the seamers take wickets. Indian spinners are known to be dangerous, having the seamers also pick up wickets makes the team much stronger.

India will win this series easily. Hopefully England and Australia compete better and we get some competive and entertaining games.

Good to see quicks do well. NZ are lucky that we aren't even playing Ishant. This would've looked the fires of Mount Doom for them had Ishant played .

Vijay scores runs he gets booted, Bhuvi takes wickets, he gets booted. I don't know what more a player has to do to find a place in a team. Kohli is shameless who always prefers Dhawan, Rohit, Yadav over deserving players.

We have Ishant to make Pommies cry.

Then Aussies cry.

Let Shami and Bhuvi make Kiwis cry.

Bhuvibhai Bhuvibhai aavya che...

We are absolute crap.

Worst top 3 in world cricket.

What selector thought the side would do well with Guptill, Nicols as your top 3.

Bloody useless the lot of them.

Drop Guptill and Nicols forever, and bring in Ryder and Raval/any decent young opener.

Seriously though, Shami and Bhuvi have been awesome.

Some of the Shami deliveries...my God....

This is where Kohli's captaincy has been such a big deal.

The way he backs bowlers...you can sense it.

If only he stops being dumb about selections, I feel he could be the one who can help us build a pace attack that can make us compete well overseas.

Maybe this is a blessing in disguise to get rid of them once and for all.

If only we had some blessing to get rid of Dhawan and Rohit.

As for KW....he is truly the inheritor of the Sachin legacy.

Lone man warrior.

Complete bat.

Though needs to improve his game when the pitch really turns.

:)))

Some might even take it seriously.

Performances like this is why cricket will never have a big following in NZ.

Most NZders like winners and the Black Caps have always been disappointments like the Warriors.

They will forever live in the shadow of the AB's and Kiwi's.

Bhuvi should be backed more now.He has increased pace and stilll has the accuracy and swing.I think he'll learn reverse too with time

I like Yadav ,but apart from some extra pace, hes too similar to Shami. Can be an excellent third seamer though

Ishant well.. god bless that mosquito

I agree.

Here you guys have Kohli as captain and we are stuck with Azhar the genius

Ishant hasnt been that bad. in fact, he has been one of our better bowlers since 2014 NZ tour.

I am happy with the horses for courses selections from Kohli. I believe we have a pretty decent attack with Shami, Bhuvi and Ishant.

If Yadav could up it a gear or two on consistency, our test attack will be a very very good one. We can play the right bowlers for the right conditions.

Bhuvi for swing, Shami all weather, Ishant as the workhorse, and if Yadav becomes more consistent, he could be used in multiple conditions too.

It's a one man team and has been for a while. Without him, we have a top 3 of Guptill, Latham and Nicols

Wonder if Southee and Rider would had made more of a difference esp on this pitch.
