The bowlers can at the very least bowl a decent line and length, admittedly even then they may occasionally be hit but the fact is their discipline has been appalling both here and in the last test. Sanga's been friendly with his field settings too.

Welegedera looks a decent bowler and has been the best of an extremely sorry bunch.

The lack of any spin today compared with yesterday is quite a crucial factor. Of course the Lankans haven't bowled good lengths but theres nothing there to work with.

yeah , well have to feel sorry for murali .. would have been ok if it had happened to anyone else but him.

Question for all you Indians. When or even, has Sehwag scored really big, like 200+, outside the sub continent?

i predicted this

i saw the match on tv by the end of the session the ball stopped turning rapidly.

I have played at brabourne before myself for college tournaments. the moisture helps spinners and seamers. Sea breeze is also important.

the pitch will demolish but at day 4 afternoon day 2 and 3 should be decent (not flat but decent)

195 against aussies at melbourne ..he got out and we collapsed
105 on debut against saf in saf (super green track)
another 120 odd in adelaide

there might be more

Before you slate him...check his figures outside the sub continent! He has scored big all over the world....so rather than bash, why can't you just appreciate good cricket?? I bet down you would love a Sehwag in the our lineup!

I wonder why the Lankans chose to bat first then. Although to be fair to them being 1-0 down, they couldn't really afford to send India in.

Im not bashing him. Im a massive Sehwag fan, and would have him in the Pakistan lineup in a heartbeat.

But am just trying to gauge how big his scores are outside the subcontinent. I know he scored the 300 against us, and another 300 in Chennai, the big score here, and the one I think against SL in Galle.

What struck me was that the big innings that I could think of were all in the Sub Continent.

Forgot about the 195 in Mebourne though.

Came close with a 197 at MCG vs OZ, got too impatient and tried to bring up the 200 with a 6 anf got out...

Record of highest score in test cricket is held by SL against India. I don't care whether we win the match or just draw it ... I feel its the time to settle the score now :D

What the hell?

413/1 in 71 overs?

Sehwag 268 not out?

What in the world is going on? :)))

From Cricinfo -

Bradman holds the record for the highest score in a day - 309. Only 15 minutes left in the day. Can Sehwag get there?

OMG Sehwag on course for another triple ton!

Sehwag's Higest scores outside India

1) Australia : 195
2) England : 106
3) NZ : 48
4) Pak : 309
5) SA : 105
6) SL : 201
70 WI : 180

Bradman, Lara and Sehwag have all scored two triple-centuries. Sehwag is 16 runs away from a very special record. Nacho re..nacho nacho...

Amazing knock from Sehwag - such a powerful hitter of the ball.

He hasnt looked troubled - found anything the SL bowlers throw at him a piece of cake to deal with.

How i wish we had a Sehwag in our side, heck even half a Sehwag would be amazing for us

The thing about him which strikes me is his self belief. Nothing seems to throw him off his game....he just plays, and his way too. So simple, but the hardest thing to do. It's just 'see ball, hit ball', with him.

For me, this is something which even Tendulkar, Ponting or Lara don't or never had.

lol, the kid looks like Sehwag

wow! amazing by sehwag!!

This is a sort of inning which is enjoyed by a 'cricket fan' and not just team supporters and there are very few cricketers who can win hearts of even non supporters and sehwag is one of them!

Sehwag...what can anyone say?? Unstoppable ?!! amazng stuff..wish we had openers like these guys..kaash!!

Exactly - it sounds so simple and he makes it look simple BUT its clearly not an easy thing to do.

Nothing seems to trouble him and he never lets himself get bogged down - his feet may not move BUT who cares when you have such control and power with your arms

Just saw the score, Holy moly.

Can we hire him for a few tests when India isn't playing?

Actually this series has just exposed what a truly pathetic team Pakistan has indeed become. The Indians are actually showing Pakistan how to do the job ruthlessly and clinically without giving the opposition any sort of breathing space or respite. The disdain with which the Indians have treated the likes of Murlitharan, Mathews, Kulusekra, Herath, Mendis e.t.c is another reminder to our players that they should seriously hang their heads in shame for losing to such a pathetic Sri lankan team 2-0.

Our batters treated Kulusekra as Mcgrath, Herath as Warne and made Sangakarra look like an aggressive, inspirational captain when in reality he is just an over rated individual in all aspects especially captaincy.

Pakistan handed that series on a plate to Sri Lanka, however, this ruthless aggression by India to the game means they may deserve the number one spot in test cricket..

Correct me if I am wrong but you have played:

Pakistan at home
Aus away
SL away
South Africa at home
Aus at home
England at home
NZ away
Sri Lanka at home

5 series at home and 3 away of which you lost 2 and beat NZ.

England away and West Indies away, we won

whatever the story in the past 4-5 years we have done a lot better than other teams hence the chance to become no 1

But in a bit of fairness to Pakistan, there is no doubt that our lack of decent cricket in 2008 as really hurt us badly in the Long run, if we had played the same amount of cricket like the likes of India, Australia had in 2008, we would have learnt a lot more about the waste's of spaces in our team and would have dropped them a long time ago.

any more flip flops? or is that it?

Lets not forget that Savak neglected to mention that our series was played in Sri Lanka (where the Sri Lankans beat India, the Gods of International Cricket no less) and not on Indian pancakes under the hot sun.

But continue.

If we were playing the Sri Lankans on the same Indian wickets then the Sri Lankans would face much easier opposition. Lets not kids ourselves, our batting is nothing compared to the Indian batting line up, i have been saying that for ages now.

This was not really a flip flop. Indians have better batting talent in comparison to us, our lack of cricket hasnt helped but still this is a fact. We cant kid ourselves.

Um, buddy, the last time the all-conquering Indians played in Sri Lanka, they lost the series 2-1.

Is that really hard to understand?

Well they are winning now arent they? Not to make any excuses but if the Indians played Mendis better, it was the first time they were really playing him and he had a dream series.

Havent seen Mendis do anything else since that series against any team, let alone India.

Whatever the rest of the Indian batting is like, Viru is a special eh. Who needs footwork when you can see the ball and react as well as he can.

so why do you keep comparing them to us? we ruled them for 15 years, but it's over now...let's stuck with what we have and look to improve

Ill say one thing, I hope Ind score 900 odd.
Im sick and tired of the Lankans stealing great records with mediocre performances.

The highest ODI score came after a stupendous chase by RSA and a month later these gits scored 450+ against Holland.
Len Hutton scored 364 against Bradmans Aus in England 903 and these gits scored 940 against a hapless Ind attack on a road.

am most likely going to be in the stadium to watch him get to his triple tomorrow :)

You were spot on! The pitch behaved differently today.

Yeah I guess it will be a different story on Day 4 and 5. If India can take a lead of 250-300 then it will be tough for SL to save the game. Brilliant Innings by Sehwag :)

Sehwag scored at an astonishing rate. Bravo to Sehwag. This guy scores big when he gets in. Pity we have such crap openers.

Guys that pitch in Galle was by no means a flat track,it was a very uneven difficult pitch.Rest of our greats looked clueless there.

The way SL batted in the second innings of the last match showed they were not interested to play the match.

In this match, if India take 300+ runs lead, SL may not even bother about staying in the match. What happened to the aggression they showed when Sangakara started as captain?

Yes I agree, Galle was no way a flat track. Sehwag scored 201 and Ghambir scored 60+. So in effect the openers contributed 260+ out of the 329 India scored. So that was a difficult track on which Sehwag batted with controlled aggression and carried India through. Similar innings was his 155 against Mcgrath and Warne in Chennai. None of the other batsmen were comfortable on that pitch.

I think India should have reached that lead by lunch tomorrow, I think you should declare when you get to 1000.

Should leave almost 2 full days to bowl out the Lankans.

In an ideal world sehwag gets 401* and Indian get 1000+

wouldn't it be better to win 2-0 instead of 1-0?

well in this case even if sehwag takes an entire day to score 100+ runs (not likely) we still have 2 days..

we need to bat almost the complete day tommorow to allow the pitch to scruf up and then have a crack at lankans with 8-10 overs remaining

In that last session he scored 134. There is no way he will take a day to score another 100.

yea i know i was just replying to the sarcastic post i quoted...

actually sehwag is in a very good position that even if he gets 401 he would take at best 2 sessions and we will still have 2 days and 1 session to force a win

Sehwag has a terrific opportunity here to score big. I hope he capitalizes. Keeping my fingers crossed :P

The last time anyone made Murlitharan look so ordinary was Brian lara. This is not the way Murlitharan wanted to go out of the game.

vow amazing feat from Sehwag....go for it and Kill this pathetic Lankan team. I am just happy that someone treated this **** SL team, the way it supposed to be. I am loving the looks on the face of Sangakara........

OMG Sehwag :out

82.2

Muralitharan to Sehwag, OUT

V Sehwag c & b Muralitharan 293 (254b 40x4 7x6) SR: 115.35

Epic knock though. And heaps of batting still to come

if there was a referral system both Sehwag early in the inning and Dravid woul be back home resting

However great knock be Sehwag. I was hoping he breaks the record. Daring and fun batsman to watch

You have done so by bullying ICC therefore controlling umpires and not having referral system for this series.
