Good counter attack from Dhoni. I think things are about even, given India have to bat last on this "pitch". I think thats worth 40-80 runs.

I'm hoping we won't have to bat again. If we play another 50-60 overs and get to around 500 (we bat till no 10) the pitch will by then be perfect for good spin bowling. If the Budge shows up, we may get you inside 150 runs.

Very very evenly poised, ATM. 2 quick wickets and Australia will be the favorites.. India will have to bat 2 more sessions outta their skins! Tough ask... go Kohli!

500?!! That's too huge mate.. I'd be happy if we scrap away with a lead here..

Why Dhoni who has an avg of 37 in tests, bats ahead of someone who has scored 3 triple centuries in FC.
Really tells how much Jadeja's batting is rated by his captain.

Pitch is absolutely dead no bounce at all dont think any fast bowler can take any wickets unless u bowl at 90mph :akhtar

even Ashwin should bat ahead of Jaddu

Dhoni & Kohli threatening to take this game away.

I flicked off the stream when Dhonut walked out to bat, expected him and Jadeja to crumble with Ashwin seeing us through with Kohliflower.

Good to see both are still out there. We need a 100+ lead and choke them Aussies with our spinners.

India will now start to think about a lead, seeing as they should draw level about halfway through this session.

Brilliant, he's made Pattinson his bunny over the past few overs and now clocks up his ton against him.

Dhoni haters gone to hiding :))

I still hate him. I was at the ground yesterday and that partnership between Siddle, Clarke and Pattinson was sleep inducing.

We should've been leading by now.

The only thing dampening the excitement is Laxman's commentary

His English is terrible and accent is horrible..

Come on. Don't make Dhoni look like a legitimate Test batsman!

Apart from Patto and Siddle, not thinking too highly of the Aussie bowlers.

The great Aussie bowling lineup being treated like worthless trundlers...

Dhoni is charging bowlers who are bowling close to 140kmph.

He seems to have taken REVITAL :viv

Excellent batting from Dhoni really outstanding.
Very good batting by Kohli too, hope he makes a Double Century.

Trust me, we arent thinking very highly of them right now either.

Why is it that Patto is swinging the ball and everyone else isnt? Or is he just getting the swing due to the extra pace? He is the only one performing right now.

LOL

Starc will own English batsmen in Ashes. Do not worry.

Indian pitches do not suite fasties.

Have to say but Dhoni's innings if it lasts for 1 more hour might take the game away from AUS, terrific counter attack!

Dhoni playing as if it were a LOI. These are the kind of pitches which have given him that solid looking average of 38. He loves playing on these wickets doesn't he?

You can't be a good bowling line-up if you need green decks to pick wickets, just like you can't be a good batting line-up if you need only flat decks to survive.

Some amusing gleefulness from Indian fans, who one day ago thought their entire team was trash :))

Indian pitches do not suite fasties.

Steyn averages 20 in India across two tours bowling to the #1 team in the world.

Indian pitches do not suit mediocre fasties who've built up their reputation only on seaming wickets, like I said.

Perhaps you missed last summer, on flat decks where Clarke scored mountains of runs, and you lost 4-0? Some Indians dont even know what a green deck is, ill give you a hint, if the ball seams every now and then that doesnt mean its a green pitch....

Then again seeing what Indians call a "pitch" for this game, not so surprising. Fortunately its a good game, but this pitch is still a joke. All that money cant buy grass right....

Kohli gives it away. Good change by Clarke. A little collapse now would be nice.

And Jimmy averages 29.81 in India. Which isn't bad for a quick (nowhere near Steyn's mind you)

And he's not even a genuinely fast bowler.

Should've sent out Ashwin. Need a batsman out there.

Why did the Aussies not pick a second spinner?

Did you not learn from England's mistake of not picking Monty in the first test?

We still do not rate our team in Test cricket. We suck now and has been for over 2yrs.

Like someone mentioned above, if Aus bowlers are smashed this way on flat decks, does it mean they need green tracks with bounce to take wickets?

No matter how badly Aus bowlers perform in this series, I still believe they are very good.

In short, a deck that favours spinners and tweakers = rubbish? Even though you've won the toss and we'll be batting last?

Hmm.

Similar to your 2010 tour. Won the toss both times, batted first both times, made over 400 both times, lost both times. How is that the pitch's fault?

Whats up with you mate, why you trolling in the match thread?

Well played kohli, class innings. But you need to play the long innings son. Watch and Learn from how srj gonna score a triple now.

Agreed, let this be clear.

I'll begin rating them again if they can actually win a series. This is just one innings, let's see how it goes.

I think the fault is that Australia likes trying to get a wicket with every ball. In India the pitches hardly do anything so it's smarter to play the waiting game with tight pressure building overs till Kohli or any of the numerous hotheads in the Indian team go slashing at one.

We don't want grass on the pitch that's the point!

Who said anything about or against Anderson? The English tour is long since over.

I'm just pointing him out since RA considers him a mediocre fastie that built his record on seaming tracks.

I'm no expert, but I believe more the grass, lesser the assistance for the tweakers.

So yeah. Grass can go to hell, we need all the help we can get for our "bowlers" and we don't think our faster men can make use of a grassy wicket.

This argument is aside from the fact that it is physically impossible to make a seamer's paradise in India - and the overhead conditions also agree. Let alone in Chennai.

Now you are crying. Indian pitches have always been dead for Fast bowlers.

You need spinners to win in India or great fast bowlers who can bowl anywhere.

England had Monty who could exploit the spin that the pitches were giving. He owned Indian batsmen.

Lyon is a an average spinner. He is no where close to Monty.

I am not goign to trash Starc, SIddle based on these performances. To me, they are still very good with the potential to become greats. Especially Starc and Patto.

Trail by 42, we need a lead of a 100 minimum. Dhoni and Ashwin can hopefully do that. Then the spinners come into play during our 3rd innings.

Wait.

Who is your second spinner?

My question too. Clarke ? Doherty? Beer ?

Indian batting will do okay against this attack. Aussies can draw the Match without much fuss but winnings gonna take real hard work.
