on another note, Katich does not seem to like getting hit for boundaries by the batsmen. he was angry at Gambhir and also at Dhoni after getting hit.
if he does not like getting hit, he shud not be bowling in the park. after akll he is not like shoaib akthar with a 30 yard run up and delivering with a physically stressful action, hurling the ball at great pace. katich is just rolling his arms over. if u bowl at test level, u shud be prepared to get hit. not pick arguements with batters.karp.

40 mins left and Aus were 19 overs behind :))) :)))

now 10 min break and 30 mins for Indians to bowl, will Aussie be charged with slow over rate?

indians can push thru 14 overs. may be 4 overs each to Zak and Ishant. 3 overs each to Kumble and Amit. anything extra can be a bonus.

Congrats Ghambir and VVS on double tons!

Aussies look like they will get another thrashing here!

don't think 14 overs are possible in half hour.
8 ovrs would b max

does anyone know if it's the first time for India that two double centuries in the same innings?

the nearest ones i can remember in recent time are Culcutta 01 and Multan 04 where Dravid and tendulkar were close to double century while Lax and and Sehwag scored 200+. i don't know if there any such case in the old days

Ponting should be suspended not fined.

In domestic cricket in Oz they bowl 96 overs in a day. Even teams playing 4 quicks manage to do that.

Yay we scored a run!

there will be an half an hour extension. they would play till 5.00 pm local time. i accounted for that 30 minutes too.

On a side note, Cricindia commentary has been much better this game after the rubbish they dished up last 2 Tests. I think they got some negative feedback about the obvious barracking for India ;)

At this rate India will have to bowl 613 overs for us to equal their score...

Good positive start by Oz even if it is a bit slow.. I predict a wicket to fall very soon :D...

Come on, at least one wicket needs to be grabbed by the Indians today.

No wickets but we should be fine...Lack of Harbhajan may end up being bit of an irritant here..

Hayden and Katich looking good for a ton each, but it is not going to be easy to avoid follow on, forget overhauling 613. I just hope Kumble does make Aus follow on if the lead is 250 or more.

Not a fun time for the Aussies. Katich survived at least one very close lbw decision. Gonna be tough for them to save this match. Oh well, at least I got a chuckle from the mildly amusing commentary signoff on Cricinfo ....

"Sayonara. Not to be confused with cyanide, which is, of course, goodbye in any language."

Draw or big loss for OZ is the only outcome here. Haydunce and Krapich will have to bat through the whole day if we are to have a chance.

My prediction is that this test is going to be a draw.

Hey fellas.

It's not looking too bad for us I feel. All we have to do is bat the next 6 sessions at 3.5 rpo and amass a lead of close to 150 and force India to bat for a draw on the last day inwhich I predict they'll likely capitulate under a negative mindset.

Yep. Simple enough.

I agree with VVS. We've been very defensive throughout this series - like we didn't want to lose as opposed to going out there for a win. Selections have been defensive (White in to lengthen the batting), fields have been defensive, the mindset has been defensive and there's been a lack of composure in the batting. We shouldn't be losing a match because we lost the toss. I don't think they're focused - Ponting is missing the calming influence of the likes of Gilly, etc in the field.

The loss of Warney, followed by the self-destruction of MacGilla and the retirement of Hogg, plus the absolute failure of the 2 Cullens to live up to their billing really shafted us in the spin department. Plus they discarded Casson after one match. We have a legspinner playing who can't even spin the ball lol. Unfortunately Lee and Stu Clark have been unable to step up in these conditions. We needed Lee to be a wicket taking threat and he hasn't been able to do that.

We're going to need at least 2 of our top 4 to be there at stumps tomorrow to save this match. We need Ponting to get a hundred to try and build some momentum. India are basically dictating terms at the moment and all we are doing is reacting. We need something to change the momentum, like a big hundred from someone. If we can get to say 450-500 we may have an outside shot of doing an England (i.e. trying to salvage a heroic draw). I don't think we can win as we won't be able to take 10 Indian wickets in the 2nd innings with our bowling attack.

All depends on whether this pitch starts to deteriorate - if it does then I reckon Kumble (old and useless as he is, he's still better than any of our "spinners") and Mishra will wipe us out.

Australia are going to have 2 bat here for 2 days solid if they are going to get any where close to the draw! Australia have been defensive in last match and this one and have almost be resigned in the mind to playing second fiddle to india. Australia might start to find a lot of series on the road alot more difficult and competative!

I am shocked the Aussies didn't play a spinner. Even if the spinner gets smashed, he proves some variety like Hogg did in the last series. Hogg took some crucial wickets.

Its too bad we didnt get a chance to play them at home....this would be our best time to beat them :(

Exactly.

I just saw the highlights of session 3 and boy Kumble turned quite a few and so did Mishra. Yes the pitch control knob has been turned to DOM after the declaration.

Indians (Zaheer and Laxman) were warned by the umpire for running on the danger area. Infact Laxman was even penalized a single for running on the wicket. So there Aussies, thats something you might want to throw in your whining kitchen :D!

Seems that kitchen is already full with many Indian fans, Australian Media and many more....be careful...too many chefs may spoil the broth!
