I too have seen him in several Ranji matches. Trust me that his footwork is fine. He generally gets in perfect position to play the ball. Just suffering from "Kohli syndrome" I.e. Limited overs driving overdose.
 
ashwin does really look like a poor man's VVS when he bats but he makes it work somehow at least on slow and subcontinental pitches, he's the spin version of Vernon Philander at present whose batting is much less useful in LOI cricket.

Kohli really has contradicted himself in pressers the past few weeks. ::)) Blaming England for their intent and then saying they didn't show enough and now the personal milestones thing where we saw stunned silence when Rahul got out and a pointlessly late declaration today.

Biggest myth.

If Saha gets 70 out of 100.....Parthiv gets 30 out of 100.

Just cos people don't like 70 doesn't mean 70 is not better than 30 by much.

Pis* poor captaincy from Kohli.

Dead rubber after a 3 nil series win. 5th day. Runs are not an issue. Defeat is out of the equation. Chance for a 4 nil series win. Ashwin bowling beautifully.

And has just a single slip with the rest controlling run flow.

Can't get anymore defensive than that. Cook likes this both as a batsman and a captain.
 
I have lost count of how many catches we have dropped in this series. We need a good WK real soon.

Had this series been in England we would have lost due to these dropped catches. Fielding needs to improve by several notches.
 
The thing with Parthiv is that he lends fantastic balance to the team with his batting which Saha doesn't. Can also back up as an opener in case of injury. However having him as the wicketkeeper means that we have to pick up 22-24 wickets to win a test match which might not cost us at home but might sting us when we tour overseas.

Saha's averages for the last 2 series:

West Indies: 51.25
New Zealand: 112

His batting is just fine. In fact his runs were scored when the rest of the team was doing relatively poorly.

Dhoni is still the best with the gloves in the country but he's retired. Saha is next best.
 
Farce of a pitch, being a traditional test venue this is unacceptable to dish out such surface. Not sure if the recent cyclone has got anything to do with it!
 
Gotta feel for Ashwin.

He is creating so many chances on THIS pitch yet has no luck.

This entire series (barring Mumbai) he was very unlucky. Could have EASILY got an extra 8-10 wickets.
 
Saha is a much better wicketkeeper than Parthiv. The two dropped catches of Stokes at Rajkot have clouded people's judgement but before that he had been keeping for 15 Tests and his keeping was hardly ever a topic of discussion which just shows that he was taking all his chances and not missing any. He had achieved the wicketkeeper's dream of being invisible!

All the doubt regarding Saha was about whether his batting was good enough. He has demonstrated that he is good enough to average 35 odd in Test cricket in the long run. That is good enough for a keeper in a lineup with useful lower order batsmen like Ashwin,Jadeja,Jayant and Bhuvi. Worth noting that no Indian wicketkeeper other than Dhoni has averaged 30+ in the history of Indian cricket (Parthiv's average has just crept up after his recent good knocks)

Of course, at this point it looks like they'll barely be 1 or 2-down which ironically is the better prospect for Kohli.

It is important for a captain to have the mental strength to deal with or even ignore criticism.
 
For someone who grew up in the English system, Moeen looks so vulnerable against the short ball.

Might get a proper working over in the next Ashes in Australia if he doesn't correct his technique.
 
I'm just as surprised as the TV umpire by that, thought it was definitely missing.

India might regret not declaring 30-40 minutes earlier.

As much hate as Dhoni's captaining gets by some Indians here, I don't think he would have left the declaration that late.

You don't say one thing (not playing for individual achievements) and do the opposite (wait for a rookie batsmen to score a triple at the teams expense).

You either have the gift to read the game and have the nature to push things or you don't.

Kohli seems like all talk and isn't some tactical genius that you need to be to get to that legendary level.

Tactics isn't the only thing needed for being a legendary captain.

Workable tactics is enough. SO many other factors matter (man management, leadership, building a team, taking important calls).

Kohli's captaincy has been rubbish this test but he will improve.

Kohli isn't building anything.. the core of this side is Dhoni's side. Kohli will likely end up like Ponting, in that they had good sides (India are strong in Asia) who they managed and led well. But will behind the likes of Fleming (had it all, was called the best captain he has played against by Warne), McCullum and Clarke who were excellent tacticians and able to read games exceptionally well.

Ponting and Kohli would have struggled to lead the sides both Fleming, Clarke and McCullum had.
