Both India and New Zealand, who have won all of their games at the ICC Men's World Cup 2019 so far, will look to maintain ascendancy as they take on each other at Trent Bridge on Thursday.

Overview:

India v New Zealand
Trent Bridge, Nottingham
2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, Match 18
Thursday, 13 June; 10.30am local, 09.30 GMT

Team India put up a clinical performance against Australia, registering a 36-run win, but Shikhar Dhawan's thumb injury has given them a major jolt ahead of their next few matches. KL Rahul, who had been slotted to bat at no.4 up until now, is likely to open the innings with Rohit Sharma. He will face a tough challenge first up against a potent New Zealand pace attack.

While wrist-spinners have provided breakthroughs at crucial junctures in both the games so far, it will be interesting to see if Virat Kohli goes in with the same combination on Thursday, considering the short boundaries and overcast conditions on offer at Trent Bridge.

New Zealand are currently leading the points table with three wins from as many games. With Lockie Ferguson and Matt Henry leading the bowling charts with 15 wickets between them in the tournament so far, and with Jimmy Neesham and Colin de Grandhomme providing able support, Kane Williamson has enough bowling options as he'll be up against a strong Indian batting line-up.

With their top-order doing bulk of the scoring in the first three matches, the middle order is likely to be tested against a well-rounded Indian bowling unit.

Key Players

Jasprit Bumrah (India): The Indian pacer who currently tops the MRF Tyres ICC ODI Rankings for bowlers, has been giving his best results in the World Cup so far, providing timely breakthroughs. With his subtle variations and the ability to extract movement and bounce, Bumrah will be a tough challenge for New Zealand batsmen on Thursday.

Kane Williamson (New Zealand): One of the best batsmen of the modern era, Williamson's ability to score runs in any conditions makes him New Zealand's most reliable player. With his smart play and the ability to counter spin-bowling, the Kiwi skipper will look to hold the innings together against India.

Conditions

Chances to get a full 100-over game seem bleak as there might be heavy and thundery showers later in the day. With bowlers from either team capable of exploiting overcast conditions, much like West Indies did against Pakistan here, both captains will look to field first.

Squads

India: Virat Kohli (c), Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal, MS Dhoni (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Kedar Jadhav, Dinesh Karthik, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul, Mohammed Shami, Vijay Shankar, Rohit Sharma, Kuldeep Yadav

New Zealand: Kane Williamson (c), Ross Taylor, Tom Latham (wk), Tom Blundell (wk), Mitchell Santner, Colin de Grandhomme, Lockie Ferguson, Tim Southee, Trent Boult, Colin Munro, Ish Sodhi, Henry Nicholls, Martin Guptill, Matt Henry, Jimmy Neesham

India v New Zealand

• India have won six of their last seven ODIs against New Zealand, including a 35-run victory
when they met in February this year – their most recent clash.
• This will be the eighth meeting between India and New Zealand at the ICC Men’s Cricket
World Cup, with six of their previous seven encounters being won by the chasing side on the
day (India W3, New Zealand W4).
• India have lost only two ICC Cricket World Cup games since the completion of the 2007
edition (W16, T1) and have picked up two wins from as many games thus far at the 2019
tournament.
• New Zealand have won 11 of their last 12 Cricket World Cup fixtures - the exception being
their loss in the 2015 Final - their last three victories have all come after winning the toss and
electing to bowl first.
• This will be India’s seventh ODI at Trent Bridge (W3, L3), they have won their two most recent
matches there but have lost both ICC Cricket World Cup games they’ve played at the
Nottingham venue, against New Zealand in 1999 and Australia in 1983.
• New Zealand have lost their last two ODIs at Trent Bridge, their last victory in this format at the
Nottingham venue coming against India at the 1999 ICC Cricket World Cup.
• Virat Kohli (India) is 57 runs away from becoming the ninth player to score 11,000 ODI runs,
Sachin Tendulkar currently holds the record for the quickest to reach the milestone at 276
innings, Kohli has played just 221 innings so far.
• Ross Taylor (New Zealand) boasts an ODI batting average of 55.8 from 27 innings in Europe,
his highest on any continent; he’s not been dismissed for less than 40 in any of his last 12
innings in England (exc. Cardiff), a run which includes two centuries and sees him average
74.5.
• Rohit Sharma (India) has made scores of 95, 56, 122*, and 57 in his last four ODI innings, the
longest run of 50+ scores in his career in the format, if he manages another 50 in this match
he’d be the fourth player to do this for India (Tendulkar, Kohli (twice) and Rahane).
• Martin Guptill is 93 runs away from becoming just the second Black Caps player after
Stephen Fleming (1.075) to score 1,000 ICC Cricket World Cup runs.

India have Rohit, if he goes off it's going to be tough.

Nah Rohit is great for 50 overs but for 20 overs he's not as good as guptil or Munro or Taylor.
New Zealand have capability to post 200+ in 20 overs, India can only do it if pandya gets in early and scores big or if Rahul finds is IPL abilities.

No per bbc weather i checked few hours ago high chance of washout. Even if you have reduced game its stupid.

Pouring down here, been raining all night, and going to get worse, areas around the ground are soaked, and its only going to get worse during the morning.

It will be rain impacted but i guess we will get a game, no rain post 5 pm local time, so if we get a start we will at least have a 20 over game.

Also there is no rain prediction between 2-4 pm local time, which might give some time for drying up.

Overall better to bowl first looking at all these scenarios.

Bat first, bowl first. Doesn't matter.

NZ by 8 wickets.

For us to have any chance of making it to Semis, then India must beat New Zealand today.

Just win your matches, there is no point in depending on others (that's as good as depending on rain)... It is a long tournament and it looks short if you keep losing...

how do we win all games when one of them has already rained out? and what if we get hit by rain again?

Even if we end up winning our last 5 games, we still need India to beat New Zealand today, otherwise these four teams will stay locked for the first 4 positions and by next week, the remaining matches will have no meaning and Cricket will continue to die :)

Doesn't matter 8 wickets or 100 runs. We got this.
You ain't beating us even in a parallel universe. You just don't have it in you but I like the confidence.

Anyways always refreshing to see optimistic opponent fans in the match thread. Forum has become too crowded with wrist slitting doom mongers of late.

The above message was for Hyperion66, forgot to quote him. I am all Indian today, Hyperion! :)

We've got this, India are weak without Dhawan. Boult needs to remove Sharma/Kohli early, then its NZ's game.

Awkward situation for me. I want NZ to win, but at the same time, it's better for Pakistan if they losem

NZ start the job tonight, Pakistan finish it on Sunday.

India's semi chances left in ruins :akhtar

Exactly. It is New Zealand's first big match in this World Cup. It is only going to get tougher for them from here on. Every team is going to attack the Kiwis now. :inti

I said from the beginning... You should not have lost to WI & Australia... Sri Lanka is in better shape even though they missed two matches for rain!

NZ will be praying for a washout as certain thrashing awaits today. No more minnows left to bash. India will be disappointed to lose a point.

We have lost to WI and Australia already, so there is nothing we can do about that and as for Sri Lanka, I absolutely don't understand how they are in a better shape when two of their games have already rained out?

As per your logic winning all the remaining matches also doesn't ensure SF berth for Pakistan, but its possible for Sri Lanka (with 6 wins + 2 more points)! I saw Pakistanis thinking about other match results even when they were playing WI/Aus/Eng matches!

He's right. As of now, SL has more probability.

Met office says rain until 11 and good after that . . so hopefully we should get a game!

On a side note, awkward times again when Pakistani fans start getting behind India! :)

You still did not answer my question as to how is Sri Lanka is in a better shape when two of their matches have already rained out? With 2 rain outs, Sri Lankan must win all games from here on to make it to semis. How is this a good thing? Please help me understand.

I want these matches to be washed out: Eng Vs Afg, Eng Vs SRL, Eng Vs WI, Eng Vs Aus and Eng Vs Ind

Are you for real? Why would you want IndvEng and AusvEng washout? These are among the most anticipated matches of the tournament!!

3 hours rain forecast (1 hr stretch + 2hr stretch) as per accuweather. Game could likel yg be T20 mode. Win toss and bowl first.

Indeed.. New Zealand is one of the best teams in this world cup. Pakistan looked dangerous as well. Indians should brace themselves for back to back losses.

Sri Lankas two washouts has effectively resulted them a win (2 points), so they are in better shape compared to Pakistan and South Africa at least!

Shami must play instead of Kuldeep due to overcast condition
Rahul
Sharma
Virat
Shankar/DK
Dhoni
Jhadav
Pandya
Bhuvi
Shami
Chahal
Jassi

New Zealand will already be thinking about margin of victory. Such has been their dominance in this world cup so far.

I'm predicting 5-fer for Trent Boult on a lively strip. I see no result but a loss for India on this overcast day. Kiwis to book semifinal spot today itself.

He's right. As of now, SL has more probability.

I am not comparing Sri Lanka's situation with Pakistan or with any other team. Only trying to make a point that when two of your games have been rained out, then it is never a good thing in this world cup and you are kind of in a lose lose situation in this world cup. Hope you get my point.

Sri Lankas two washouts has effectively resulted them a win (2 points), so they are in better shape compared to Pakistan and South Africa at least!

Ok brother, You guys can lose tonight and we will try to win all our games :)

Again don't worry about our games! Just concentrate on your games! Rest will fall its place!

What is going on Ramlakhan? why so upset? You kept turning and twisting in this debate and continued to miss my point where as I only wanted to support India today and when I finally agreed, you came up with this post, lol.

Rain has stopped, match should start on time or a few minutes delay at Max. Hopefully no more rain for the day.

delay start next inspection in 30 min no rain currently just outfield is wet

its not completely dried that wat they tell but its near to perfect for match condition as not long delay

How long can Rohit and Rahul last against Boult on a damp pitch is what I am concerned about.

Man this has to be the worst World Cup ever, so many rain affected games and washouts. No wonder newer generations aren’t interested in this sport

drizzling again so inspection will be postponed am sure
