Our players are down on confidence. India is at peak confidence.

This match is not something I'm looking forward to after yesterday's defeat. Bura lag raha hai bhaiyyon :ssmith

I don't see why Pak players would be down on confidence. Its a India vs Pakistan match. Nothing else matters, Pakistan and India can lose 10 matches in row but will give their all in this contest. The better team on the day will come out on top.

They’re down on confidence because they have been consistently terrible

Pakistan has a fairly good chance of winning, say about 40%, which was better than their CT odds of 30%.

If you look at Amir's opening bowling to Finch and Warner, the batsmen were a bit lucky. They were beaten multiple times. Any one of those dozen balls could have resulted in a wicket but did not. If the Indian top order does not have similar luck, they could fall cheaply to Amir and then it would be a repeat of the CT final.

We will find out if the Indian batsmen are able to handle Amir better than the Aussies did.

Or the other hand, Fakkar could play another one of those lucky innings when he could have been out half a dozen times while scoring his century.

I wouldn't pick Haris Sohail at all, too slow and one dimensional also poor in the field.

Stick with the same combination but take Shaheen out for Shadab, and maybe Asif for Imad.

Weather is fine. There is like 20 % of rain throughout the day, and that to light showers.
In fact BBC weather is saying "low chance" of rain.

Weather should not intervene.

I've got tickets for the game and will be driving up from London. After our performance yesterday and having seen the Indians play, I am trying to keep positive, but kind of dreading this game at the same time.

Win the toss and bat first. It is imperative that we put a good total on the board to put pressure on the Indians. As there haven't been any games in the WC at Old Trafford yet, it is hard to know what a good score would be.

I am not interested in this contest anymore, as it will be a one sided affair. Pakistan Cricket is not worth following (kind of religiously) anymore. Mediocre talent in the domestic cricket adds to the insult. I think it will take some years of proper investment in domestic cricket before taking off. Fasten your seat belts for a journey which will be full of mediocrity , for some years.

Waqar Younis: Pakistan must bring their A game against India and take early wickets

When Pakistan play India it’s always a huge game, but their meeting on Sunday is shaping up to be more crucial than ever.

It’s simple – if Pakistan want to stay in the tournament, they have to bring an ‘A plus’ performance and win that game.

The match has always meant so much to both countries. There will be billions watching the game.

Pakistan’s track record is very mixed, but that’s all gone. That’s all history. It’s a new game, a new day.

Pakistan have got to take positives out of what they did to India in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy a couple of years ago. They must think positively going into this game.

I hope they have got their best game in the locker for India, who showed against Australia that they are a very fine side.

What I have seen in this World Cup so far is that if you don’t pick up early wickets, you’re in trouble. The new ball is so crucial and openers are being more careful in the first ten overs this year.

They're not really going full throttle, they are being a bit more watchful. Once you don't lose any wickets early on, it becomes easier because the ball doesn't swing and batting becomes easier.

It was with the new ball, in both batting and bowling, that I felt Pakistan missed a trick in their entertaining defeat to Australia at Taunton.

Early on, we were not really sharp enough and Sarfaraz Ahmed was not on his toes. Mohammad Amir didn’t get any support from the other end.

No-one really saw the comeback coming and for that, you have to take your hat off to Amir. Full marks to him for the way he bowled.

Even with the new ball, I thought he bowled quite nicely. He could have picked up more than five wickets in the end. He was unfortunate with a couple of nicks early on.

Pakistan pulled it back very nicely. They were sharp after 25 overs and started picking up wickets. They found the right lengths.

Amir bowled superbly. He showed us all his cutters, variations and short pitched deliveries.

I think we all know Amir is mentally very, very strong. He showed once again that class is permanent – he is no doubt a match-winner.

Dealing with short bowling again proved an issue for the batsmen. It’s been a real problem for them on this tour.

I felt they managed it well against England but not against West Indies, only to get exposed again by Australia. They haven’t quite figured it out yet.

The batsmen are such good players, they just need to avoid playing into the hands of the opposition with some of the shots they play.

It may be that Mickey Arthur looks at changing the team for Sunday. I spoke to Mickey in Taunton and he is thinking in terms of horses for courses, and I agree with him to an extent.

The pitch there was good for pacers and he rightly went with four of them. The issue was not the nature of the plan, but the execution.

Shadab is the key man in this side and I think they will look to bring him back in against India. They might go for five bowlers, use four pacers and Shadab and drop someone like Shoaib Malik.

It depends a lot on what conditions are like in Manchester, up to a few hours before the game.

Going from a defeat to playing the old rivalry against India isn't going to be easy. India probably watched the Australia game very closely and know what needs to be done.

Pakistan need to lift themselves up and I hope they bring their best on Sunday.

Honestly in terms of quality this is the best Pakistan team in the last few years so I think we have better chance at beating India now then we’ve had in the last few years.

They just can’t seem to perform well as a team and get over the line.

We should still get a game even if it's rain effected one. Strangely according to the forecast yesterday's Pak-Aus match was more likely to be a victim of rain then today's NZ-India one. To get back in to the competition we have to defeat India.

According to the bbc, rain is expected at old trafford from 2pm til midnight.

Now if icc were competent, they would start the match at 10am and change the match to a t20 match!

If Pak bowls first, then don’t bother watching the match. Even if India scores 200, we aint chasing it. Mentally disabled players when it comes to chasing.

Ijaz butt was right about Pakistani players? :))

On topic,

There is a storm coming to Manchester, and its Blue.

A massive thumping awaits Pakistan the stories of which would be told for years to come.

Once malik and asif are removed and replaced with haris and imad/shadab, then yes this is a very good team.

The reason we are losing close matches are:-
1. We dont have someone who takes wickets in the powerplay :
Cant do nothing about this now, but after the wc i suggest haris rauf be brought into the team.
2. We dont have a finisher when batting:
I would suggest moving fakhar to 6 and making him our finisher.
Haris can open with imam for the rest of the wc.

Drop Shaheen bring in Hasnain, Drop Malik bring in Shadab. THe pitch will be different than Taunton so you can play a batsmen less (Malik) beef up spin bowling by bringing in Shadab. Would need pace on this wicket so bringing Hasnain could be a good ploy. Have a strong feeling Fakhar comes good against India - he always performs when Pakistan are on the edge and in crunch games - Newzealand series game 3, Australia tri series final, Champions trophy final...but again never know with this guy.

Imam
Fakhar
Babar
Hafeez
Sarfraz WK
Asif Ali
Shadab
Hassan Ali
Wahab Riaz
Amir
Hasnain

After witnessing pathetic surrender from a winning position yesterday I have no hopes from this team. Especially when we have a coward player as our leader, experienced player like Malik and dynamic talent like Asif.

What is "dynamic" talent?

It would be easy to just sit here and say we're going to get walloped and not to bother turning up blah blah. But I say let's take it to them. Green storm is coming to Manchester and bring it on! Good to see Amir hitting form but we need Fakhar to get a good start also.

I'd probably gamble on Asif for this match as he could potentially come off. Malik should get dropped for Haris. The bowling is a bit weak but maybe give Shadab a go instead of Shaheen who is low on confidence at the moment. Come on Pakistan. :pakflag2

Big setback for India that they couldn’t bat today & find out if KL Rahul is any good opening with Rohit Sharma. My prediction is Amir will get KL in his second over. Get one more of Rohit/Kohli out within 10 overs, then 50% work is done.

It will be perfect if they turn it into a T20 game. Pandya, KL Rahul, KKD, Rohit, Kohli will be a force in the shorter format.

Pakistan’s secret must be used here. Mohammed Husnain is the man to bring in for Afridi. shadab for Malick.

Hasan and Shadab should get dropped and Hasnain and Shadab should come.

Sohail for Asif maybe, it depends on the pitch.

Lol at Waqar.

Reminds me of when he was talking about some Sri Lankan batsmen while commentating and said they had scored "millions of runs" against Pakistan.

Agreed the ball went past the bat many times and was very close to getting an edge. Even at the time I thought the Aussies were getting lucky. Their innings total could have been much lower. However Pak batting is brittle and weak and can’t stand any kind of pressure. Pakistan need to bat first and put up a decent total and then look to defend.

The so called 2nd best batting unit on 350+ pitches could not handle West Indian and Australian bowlers. How are they going to handle a bowling unit of India which is at least twice better than both West Indies and Australia?

I am sorry but there will be no Mark Wood and Adil Rashid type bowlers to bash on Sunday.

Even a 37 years old Dhoni is a bigger match winner than anyone in this Pakistani team. It is extremely unlikely that 7-8 players of India who are capable of winning the game single-handedly will have a collective bad day.

There is a 20-30% chance of rain after 2pm. The BBC website actually says " low chance of precipitation". The second innings could be affected but their should be a completed game.

Ridiculous, we are not minnows that we are afraid of playing against higher ranked teams.

I expect Pakistan to bounce back hard.

I expect them to get one of their biggest beatings ever in World Cup. It won’t be a pretty sight that’s why I hope for rain

Don't fly so high mate. When we beat you on Sunday, you'll be the first one who I'll target

Wake up please. We are in for a beat down of humongous proportions.
True that

And honestly I think as a Pakistan fan I don’t have stamina to bear another crushing defeat from india

Few careers will get ruined come Sunday if rain doesn’t come to our rescue

Looking at the table it is going to be a dog-eat-dog competition for the last 4 spots. Every single match will be crucial going forward.

I am not sure what you mean by "beating you". I am a Pakistani American and I always support Pakistan in any game against India.

This said, I think losing 6 matches in a row to Australia should have made you a little humble.

Afghanistan beating Pakistan is more likely than Pakistan beating India. This is the sad but bitter truth.

Call your bookie, ask him/her whose going to win, streak will continue, there’s no point.
I can only hope for rain, we get 1 point and try to win last 4 games.

Come on bro, this is the time when we need to support Pakistan.

Let’s hope it will be competitive game of cricket!

If it gets abandoned, then the streak will be broken. That's what I am afraid of.

Well no it's not and I'm not even trying to be biased. Odds tell you that.

Pakistan barely managed to beat Afghanistan in the Asia cup and lost to them in the practice game.

India on the other hand has annihilated Pakistan in their last two games. Before you mention the Champions Trophy final, this is a much better Indian team with far superior bowling.

So yes, Afghanistan beating Pakistan is more likely than Pakistan beating India.

Streak will end at some point. Only upside is Dhawan will have more time to recover. Still it doesn't look like a world cup without India vs Pakistan match. That is a marquee event in every world cup. Almost like Brazil vs Argentina match getting cancelled for some reason.

One team has to lose and other team has to win. Let us support our own team and hope for a great match. I want India to win. But, if Pakistan plays better cricket and wins, I think it will still be okay for me. We just don't want to get the match abandoned due to weather.

Only match I hope that it gets washed out

We have tken too much beating. Can't bear another one.

Rain Rain please come.

Rain predicted all day Sunday now.

This match is going to be abandoned guys. Almost no chance of play.

Stop lying.
It's not going to be abandoned.
These type of forecasts are common. They usually say light rain 20% probability and then they clear up.
The match IS going to happen.

I want Rahul to fire the pak bowlers.
Let them stay calm till 10 overs and maintain the run rate from 20 to 30 overs and then play heavily from 30 to 50 overs.

We India great bowlers which can handle the pak batsman.

Excepting some minimum 5 catch dropping and lazy fielding from Pakistan

Fielding of India will make big difference in the match.

Lol, stop being such a buzdil. Win or lose, take on your rival!

In other words... The streak will get broken.

Streak will only be broken if we beat India fair and square. We don't believe in winning through rain like you guys count CT trophy. :asad1

LOL, so you won’t count it a victory if you defeat us in a rain curtailed match?

lol asif is completely shattering the balance of the team.. poor fielder, poor batsman, cannot bowl.. Is in the team as an absolute passenger, on his merry day will make 50 from 35 balls with 20 -25 dot balls...

Exactly. At least Haris can bowl. He bowled a lot of overs in the cwc 15

Pakistan's bowling will be good. Their batting may or may not work. But their fielding would certainly be under the scanner.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's fielding that costs Pakistan this match. I've seen this team for some time and it's quite unfortunate that a team which was fielding rather well just 2 years ago is now one of the worst fielding sides in a tournament.

Pakistan must bring back Shadab Khan. He's a decent bowler and easily the best fielder in the squad.

Their XI should be

I Ul Haq
F Zaman
B Azam
S Ahmed
H Sohail
M Hafeez
S Khan
W Riaz
M Amir
H Ali
S Afridi

For India I would go with:

KL Rahul
R Sharma
V Kohli
V Shankar
MS Dhoni
K Jhadav
H Pandya
B Kumar
M Shami
Y Chahal
J Bumrah
