This Indian attack got what it takes. There will be plenty of reverse, so Saffa pacers are in as well.

Maybe it's just me but this South Africa team looks VERY inexperienced. India looks very good and this could be a hammering.

Why isn't De Kock and Morkel playing btw?

Oh no SA have lost the toss, on 'let's win the toss and bat first' conditions. Game over.
But I like the make up of both teams (even though it lives us a bit thin in the batting department), both have went with 6-5 a side.
That's very aggressive and tells me a draw is out of the equation. With SA having to bat last they have their work cut out.
They should get as close as possible to India 1st innings score if not a lead of at least 50 to stand any chance of making it a contest. I like result oriented pitches anyway, especially in the subcontinent were games can be a dud.
Rabada will be trialled by fire, well done on your test debut and good luck.

India Team

S Dhawan, M Vijay, CA Pujara, V Kohli*, AM Rahane, WP Saha†, RA Jadeja, R Ashwin, A Mishra, VR Aaron, UT Yadav

South Africa Team

D Elgar, S van Zyl, F du Plessis, HM Amla*, AB de Villiers, DJ Vilas†, VD Philander, SR Harmer, DW Steyn, K Rabada, Imran Tahir

And when last did SA go into a match with two 'specialist spinners'?
Gotta prep for work 6AM on this part of the world, what a pity, keep me updated guys. And good luck to both sides (of course I don't mean that, good luck to South Africa :) they'll need it most)

Not really, India lost 4 consecutive tosses against Australia on similar pitches, and went on to win all the 4 matches. So, it isn't all about toss, skill plays a part too.

Shami is inferior to Yadav especially in Asia

Shami gets good reverse and bowls some great in-dippers on Indian tracks. Not aware of his overall stats in India, but I remember him doing well.

RSA needs all luck in this world. No one stands against sir jadeja. It is like a bullet train is coming and you need to get out of there as soon as possible.

Qdk is in SA playing domestic cricket having been dropped and Villas given a chance. Morkel and JP are out injured.

Why can't we get rid of this two bit hack Dhawan? Specially when we have an excellent option in KL Rahul?

Getting out to a trundler like Philander on this kind of a batting pitch is a crime.

Philtrundler??

Btw Morkel is a HUUUGE miss

If India get 350+ this innings I'm willing to bet SA will lose

Is Vilas any good?

South Africa opening looks LOLworthy :)))

Pleasantly surprised to see Rohit Sharma dropped though. Pujara is light years ahead of him.

Should ask Rabada to bowl fast, either short or full.

Dale needs to get the in-swing going. Vijay is leaving him because he's not bringing it in enough.

Pitch is really slow sensible-indian-fan. Even Rabada is struggling to get it through to the keeper :))

Leave pacers.

What does it mean in terms of spinners?

Is the pitch turning slow or fast?

I am just gonna start watching.

Can someone give an explanation of the pitch and how its likely to behave and for which bowlers?

Reverse swing? Spin? Slow spin or sharp spin?

I hope morning fog and bad light don't spoil this series. Will they allow a few overs under lights this series?

This pitch kinda reminds me of the Ahmedabad pitch during the previous england tour.

Slow turn can mean 2 things.

Slow turn which will turn into quick turn as the test match progresses.

Slow turn which will remain slow turn for the entire test match.

Everyone says pitch will deteriorate. Let's see.

It's not hot here at all, to be honest I don't see the pitch crumbling too much.

The Delhi test is the only one that will be affected by fog and bad light.

Looking at the venues - Mohali, Nagpur and Bangalore - it seems that RSA have got the grounds they would have preferred in India.

Should have given them Chennai instead of Nagpur.

What do saffers think of this Harmer guy? Is he any good?

Or is he Harmless? :uakmal

He is supposed to be inferior to Tahir. And Tahir is very average test bowler to begin with

Good captaincy, good bowling and huge wicket for South Africa. One more here and India are in serious trouble.

Tahir should be used as a last resort in the first innings. He'll be dangerous when this pitch does start turning square, later in the game.

FC stats are alright. Has a FC hundred and a decent average too. Is there anyone in the SA line-up who can't bat lol. With Phili and this dude their lower order is stacked.

India is serious trouble however, their best test batsman is out to bat.
