I couldn't agree more with you on this, the retirement of kallis has really been the major blow for Saffers specially when it comes to playing in subcontinent but I thought Hash would step up to this place and play that sheath anchor role but his terrible form is one of the major reasons why Saffers hv found them selves wanting in this series so far but I would again go back to the kind of pitches india hv produced this series. I mean i just haven't seen a brand new ball turning from the very first ball of day 1 in a test match. It's kind of crazy for me..

Yup, this is very much a concern.

Mohali was a slow turner, but that was under prepared too.

Bangalore was a good pitch, but bloody rain played spoilsport.

Nagpur is a rank turner.

I just hope they dish out a better pitch for the next match. Because having a green pitch/rank turner for 1 test match in a series is okay and will serve to up the excitement factor of these series. However dishing out all tracks in such a fashion will create a lopsided contest in favour of bowlers. This is no better than the flat pancakes in Australia which turn into batting slogfests. Only difference is that the Aussie bowlers are probably the best exponents of fast bowling on flat decks and they manage to take 20 wickets. But even they couldn't take wickets in the recent Perth match.

Such polarised pitches create a lopsided impression of batsmen and bowlers. Either they're flat decks or green mambas/rank turners. Result is either boring draws or short matches finishing in 3 days (3 out of 5 matches in Ashes were 3 dayers too). This is a dangerous trend for test cricket.

When you look back at this series, not one single batsman has scored a ton. Only Vijay and ABD to some extent have looked somewhat stable against spin. You don't want such a scenario. I'm sure India can win against SA on a true pitch too. In fact, these kind of pitches make the opposition look better than they are. SA spin attack is not good enough clean up india for a low score on a true pitch, but these pitches make Elgar look Warne. Same happened with India's Lord's win. England gave a green pitch as a knee jerk reaction to the flat Trent bridge pitch against India hoping India would crumble. But England actually lost there in the end. On normal pitches, India was demolished. Still I don't know why India persists with these kinda pitches.

Another torrid little period for the Saffer top order. The world must seem like a very unfair place to them.

SA are not chasing this in a million years, even though they are decent chasing team at Test level.

But this was a max 150 chase on this pitch so they are doomed.

Wonder if India will claim extra half hour so they can win the game tonight?

Nothing to lose here so play it as an ODI game and try to bat 50 overs. There is no way we can bat defensively here for long time against Indian spinners.

You've got to be kidding me, right?

SA is woeful chasers in any form of the game, couldn't even chase 200 odd against Pakistan in WC, what makes you think they're decent chasers in Test cricket?

Had india produced sporting wickets I have no doubt in my mind that Saffers would have given them a run for their money but on these pitches Saffers can't survive 90 overs..

If that guy comes with the mood of nothing to lose everything to gain....we may not like it.

Gifted hitter. Can do everything in any pitch.

Exactly. Even if he lacks the technique, he can always go freestyle and improvise like no one else.

Strange, but for some reason, I actually want him to score a fighting hundred. :))

Fall of wickets makes us look like idiots.

Majority of wickets thrown away. lol

Thats the difference, Indian wickets mostly fell courtesy idiocy by batsmen, on the other hand Saffers weren't just good enough to tackle the spin, BD would've done better provided they've enough practice in last two Tests.

SA need to create a massive new record to win. The highest ever fourth innings chase by a visiting side in India is 276 and that happened in 1987. The second highest chase of 208 happened in 1972! There have been no other 200+ successful chases in India.

Let us agree to disagree here then:)

Pitches is a big excuse, SA have been pathetic and deserve every bit of the battering they are getting

May be with Kallis and Smith in team they could have coped better

He he he .. I ain't saying that south Africa would have won the series but it cd hv been lot different .. I mean south African batsmen don't even look like club level on these wickets. its really appalling. .

Yes but highly unlikely because of the horrible form their batting lineup is going through, or maybe its not about the form but rather technical incompetency to survive in these conditions.

keyword= Read. The second part of your username really escapes you.

Yeah whatever, calling a spade a spade doesn't make you a hater, I'm stating the obvious, it seems like in PP if you don't concur with majority of posters, you're automatically branded as "hater" "troll" etc. I'm just posting my honest opinions which seems to be the truth and that doesn't sit well with posters here, hence the labeling.

The user was talking about ABD and you posted about Rohit i hope you get the drift. And Rohit quality??

He said Rohit struggles when there is something on offer for the bowlers, will that's plain stupid, tell me which Pakistani batsman looks at ease when there is something for the bowlers? Infact every batsman in the world struggles when the ball is hooping around. But a Pakistani poster targeting a player of Rohit's caliber is a bit ironical considering how fragile their batting line up is and the hilarious and mind boggling collapses we've witnessed over the years.

Please don't question something just for the sake of it. They have become an excellent Test side in the last 10 years for a reason. They chased down 400 in Perth, nearly 450 last year and 250 on a seaming minefield just to name a few.

Now obviously they have lost 2 of their batting legends so that will hit thier capabilities somewhat. But even if they were playing they would struggle to chase max 200 on this wicked, imho.

All this talk of dust bowls is pathetic, its not like only SA is playing there, plus what about the pitches in UAE? perfectly suited to spin bowling so that Pakistan can maintain their dominance in UAE, but ofcourse when India does it its "unsporting" while for Pakistan its home advantage.

Wow now we have someone getting defensive and insecure about no-hit :)))

Past glories are irrelevant, SA team's performance in last two years is beyond pathetic, its a travesty how they've maintained their top ranking, tell you a thing or two about the ranking system. Should be 6-7 IMHO looking at their current form.

You know things are crazy when 17 runs on the board with no wicket makes you feel..."what the hell is going on" :))

Ashwin needs to get the good length right. Okay a wicket fell but still.

Some were very good balls while some were a touch too full.

Tahir is like South African version of Mishra. Bowls similar and bats the same way. :tahir

Saha has such an ugly vocal tone, his constant rambling behind the stumps is nauseating. So frustrating to listen to his non-stop verbal diarrhea, if I was the batsman, I would have a stern word with him. His mediocre hackifying batting doesn't help either, how the hell did he make his way into the test squad? If this the replacement we had in mind for Dhoni, he shouldn't have retired.

How ex Australian and English players have reacted to this pitch is down right embarrassing...

Compare this to NZ cricketers....

The wicket is by no means as bad as the score suggests, both teams are just mediocre.

This Test has shown how dire the quality of cricketers is these days.

MISHY BOYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Very useful tailender and tough batsman specialist.

If Ash doesn't get you...JAddu will.

If Jaddu doesn't get you...Mishy boy will.

Kudos to them.

Pitch is hard but batting is ATROCIOUS to say the least by both sides.

Exactly.

These players are international cricketers, they SHOULD be able to play in these conditions.

There are plenty of players in the world who can play on roads, the ability to play on these types of wickets should separate them from these other cricketers.
