LOL..people are fighting for an IPL knock..It will be forgotten very soon. The image of choking won't change until he does on the biggest days of WC.

That 91 by Dhoni has to be one of the most overrated innings in history. India already were in a pretty good position and people forget Gambhir was the top scorer for India with 97!

Agree about him being a great captain but in terms of batting he is nowhere near the other two

Did you start watching cricket from 2013?Gambhir would had done nothing if we didn't have Dhoni, all our major victories has been because of our middle order,Sachin used to play Gambhir kind of innings almost every match in 90's but did we win nope why coz no Yuvi or Dhoni!

"I think this should settle the debate about who is the best in the world. Come the big game, and the big man steps up. I just bow down to him."

~Kohli

Someone should ask Kohli which big games has ABD actually won,i don't recall Champ trophy,WC or T20 WC?

India needed 40 runs when Jadeja got out. Not even close. I can give countless of matches in which he bottled out.

So you're comparing an IPL match with an international ODI final and still Dhoni comes up short after taking his team over the line batting with a tailender.

That was a WC final newbie!!! Try to understand what a WC final is and then come back to post.

Gambhir set up the innings and Dhoni provided the finishing touches. But he is seemed to be given too much credit for that knock. He didn't win the game single handedly

I was happy with DD generally. Gave chances to young Indian players throughout and were one win away from play offs. Good finds in Karun Nair and Rishabh Pant who I think will be the next big Indian talent

Yup sad for Iyer and Samson though hoped more from them too maybe next season.

AB is a bit like Sachin or Imran. It's hard not to love them.

But their fan boys are irritating.

I would still argue he is the greatest ODI bat of all time. Only Richards come close statistically (Average + strike rate)

AB has proved to the world with this innings that he is a great clutch player and Dhoni is a bottler.

Did you forget his knock vs NZ in the SF last WC? That was a brilliant innings.SA was going nowhere when he came out to bat. They were going at around 4RPO. AB Looked good right from the first ball itself. If not for rain, he would have scored a hundred and who knows SA would have won. He has a good WC record overall.

Stop arguing with them...ABD plays well throughout the tournament but his team doesn't win ergo he is a choker. Dhoni fails throughout but will play an odd good knock in the final ergo he is Mr Cool and the great finisher. People seem to rank some failures higher than others

I thought we were discussing about won matches. In that case, I remember Dhoni playing a fantastic knock in a losing cause during the Ind v Pak ODI series in 2012. And another innings in the recently concluded Ind v SA ODI series iirc. These are just OTOH.

He has a good WC record overall.

Please expand on this.

Congrats ABD for a super clutch knock today.

And respect to Virat for his comments on ABD. Virat is taking LOI batsmanship to a whole new level and still has amazing words for his peer (who is incredible in his own way).

That's true. He sometimes even goes overboard with all the praise.

I like Dhoni but he is a bit overrated. I still remember that CB tri series in Australia where he almost made India lost matches because of his ultra slow batting. I just can't remember even one innings of him which made India win when requiring 80-100 of 10-12 overs. I am sure he must have been in that stage of innings many a time.

In the same thread, people were ready to lambaste ABD if he wasn't going to win RCB the match. Now the same people "Ah. it's just IPL dude". Hypocrites.

you should watch his 183 against SL

On the other hand, Dhoni averages 38 against non-minnows in WCs. Kohli averages a mere 28.

Nobody is a bigger choker than Kohli in ODI Wcs.

Atleast AB scored some crucial runs in semis against NZ, while Virat ran away to pavilion when the team was in peril against Australia 2015 Semis.

Not to mention Kohli was also the worst Indian Performer of 2011 WC Winning Squad.

His partnership in the final with Gambhir brought back India into the game after those early two wickets. His century against Pakistan in the last WC. These two are probably his most significant knocks in his short WC career and both are very important knocks. The only important match in which failed was against Australia in the SF.

He averages 77 in World cups at a strike rate of 118 against non-minnows. Even if remove WI (2007 wc was played in WI), he is still averaging 43 at a very healthy strike rate of 104.

Averages 68 vs non associates in world cup.

Removing the windies, it drops to 39. That's almost a 30 point drop.

Okay, not every batsman will have a rounded average against all teams in the world cup since they meet very few times. But still, 30 point drop is huge. It's hard to ignore that he has massively feasted upon the west indies which has been one of the poorer teams in this era.

But even forgetting that, he doesn't have even a single century vs the other big teams. Not a single iconic knock. Surely a better world cup record is expected from the GOAT.

I don't know why people are getting defensive. Nobody doubted AB's calibre in the IPL. Everyone knows he is a champion in the IPL. It's during the international matches in knockouts or when the stakes are high, he is known more for faltering rather than succeeding. There are enough evidences to show that his thinking process gets muddles during pressure situations in international matches when the stakes are high, be it in batting or fielding or captaincy or even during running between the wickets.

Virat also failed at 2011Australia Quarters and Semis at Mohali.

All must win matches and he choked.

Amidst AB's heroics today, Dwivedi's excellent cameo has gone unnoticed. The guy looked really impressive today.

Potential prospect for India?

I think AB put it perfectly when he said 'Virat is a thinker, I am not'. That's the difference between them. AB trusts his instinct while Kohli is methodical in his approach.

just watched the highlights - RCB's never say die attitude was exciting to watch. AB is one of if not the best batsman in the world today. some of the shots he played were breathtaking....
