Good god, like I have said before Umar Akmal has the fashion sense of a 12 year old. He needs to take some lessons from Shoaib Malik.

IMO, there is a huge difference in quality between Umar Akmal and Shahzad/Afridi. With Shahzad and Afridi, the problem (amongst others) is ability. Shahzad simply does not have enough shots to sustain momentum. He plays flashy off drives when the field is up, but when the field falls back and spinners come on (or pacers for that matter), he doesn't have the shots to penetrate the field or clear the ropes. Afridi is even more limited in what he can do with the bat.

Akmal has his challenges, but has a far superior game than either of the two you mentioned. He can drive powerfully through the covers or on, is great square of the wicket on either side, and can use his feet against the spinners. He also has a deft tough and plays the late cut, paddle shot, etc pretty well.

What lets him down is lack of discipline and judgement.

yet still he averages 34 @ 73 Strike Rate and is much more terrible than Umar Akmal who has same average but plays close to a SR of 90.
