IPL 2021 - Match 27 : MI (219/6) defeat CSK (218/4) by 4 wickets

Pollard is dangerous hitter when on song , brutal power on display.
 
Thakur is under pressure, bowling wide after wide against Pollard.. Now they go for DRS..
 
Fantastic over by Curran. You can tell after the first ball of the over that he was not going to allow Pollard to boss him around.
 
CSK and Faf choking under pressure. Genes are genes afterall, Faf.
 
I would bowl Curran now. A tight over will make it difficult for Mumbai. Plus he could get a wicket.
 
Mumbai have been involved in a majority of the close matches in the IPL this year.
 
Ngidi has been poor tonight. Maybe worth trying Jason behrendorff in the next game. He can get wickets with the new ball.
 
Another fantastic over by Curran. He just decided that he was going to make Pollard dance on this pitch. Was reading Pollard perfectly. This is the mental effect of the game as he saw Pollard hiiting sixes and taking the game away from them, so decided to take matters in his own hands and to teach him a lesson.
 
2nd highest run chase ever in the IPL.

Ngidi - amateur bowling in the final over. Looked like a club bowler not an international bowler.
 
What a legend, Pollard! You beauty! He single-handedly won this game for MI.
 
The top 4 look comfortable at the top. Difficult to see them being challenged too much by the other teams.
 
Faf dropping Pollard and Ngidi bowling full tosses in final overs costed them the game.
 
Very good innings by Pollard. Curran was reading him perfectly and was bowling with brains whereas Ngidi was doing the opposite.
 
Phew! I don't think that you can do much when a hitter of Pollard`s ability decides play one of the greatest T20 innings of all times. An unbelievable match! Just wow! Still, though, du Plessis` drop ended up being the most defining moment of the match. But, these things happen.

Chennai`s bowling options are shockingly poor. They must give it a serious thought.

Surprised he didn't bowl more than what he did.

Because of match-ups. Can't bowl off spinners to right-handers, especially to someone like Pollard. He was used to get the wicket of left-handed de Kock and he did.

Should have tried in 15th or 16th over when pacers are going for plenty..

He'd have done a better job than some of the other CSK bowlers.
 
Lungi keep bowling leg side tosses ball after ball in last over.
Dhoni haven't a single word with him.

He is completely clueless today.

Playing Lungi over Bravo was also not a good move.
MI won luckily but dropping Ishan was not a right move.

Lot of luck with MI today.. They have a good opening partnership but Rohit wasn't fluent at all..

Spin was working in those middle overs.

(Jadeja) Over number 9 - 6 runs and a wicket.

(Ali) Over number 10 - 1 run and a wicket.

(Jadeja) Over number 11 - 3 runs.

(Thakur) Over number 12 - First ball 6 - 10 runs in this over.

Anyways point is that off spinners can bowl to right handers no matter how many times Pollard has owned them. You play the situation and the pitch and back your bowlers when they are doing well. There was absolutely no harm in trying Moeen for one more over. Pollard was only at 2 from 4 balls at that time.

Good point. But in T20s, a lot of captains do follow these match-ups things because hitting against the angle is hard. More often than not it works and sometimes it doesn't. If Ishan Kishan played for MI, they would have bowled Moeen more. But because the right hander Pollard was there, so they bowled Jadeja more overs but it didn't worked.

In the first inning, CSK had more left handed batsmen in their team like Moeen, Raina and Jadeja which is why MI didn't used Krunal who is left arm orthodox spin bowler. MI missed the trick there as they dropped the right arm off-spinner, Jayant Yadav.

It doesn't work everytime but more often than not it does so they follow these match-ups in T20s.

You are not reading it right. Perhaps your roza has hampered you.

Calling MI vs CSK the El-Classico of IPL does not mean I am comparing it Barcelona vs Real Madrid or consider it to be of the same magnitude. It simply means I consider it the greatest rivalry in IPL.
 
One of the greatest T20 knocks in history. Pollard is a Limited Overs titan.

If I had to guess a cricketer who I think is not natty it would either be Pollard or Russell. They do monstrous things on a cricket field
 
Russell is a definition of pure devastative batting.

Pollard is also known for destructive batting but he is a more smarter cricketer and knows his game better.

Russell is a better bowler than Pollard though in T20s as he can be used in death overs.
