This series has perhaps answered a lot of questions for India.

1- We have got finishers in Jadhav and Pandya

2- Wicket-keeper/Batsman like Dhoni

3- Openers still seems to be an issue though. Rohit is one answer but hard to find another in Rahul after his performances...

4- Pacers in Shami, Bhuvi, Bumrah (yes he is still one of the best at death)

5- Spinners in Ashwin, Kuldeep and Jaddu

6- Packed middle order with Yuvi, Dhoni, Kohli, Manish Pandey, Pant

Do you think we are still lacking or are we ready now with this 16 man squad?

It must feel so good to have a team that wins matches

We lost today buddy... Rubbing salt?

Today was dead-rubber lol. I mean in general. India wins more matches than it loses. We on the other hand have to wait half a year for the next victory.

We are ready...this is the best we have got...still few chinks but every team has that...

Rohit
Rahul
Kohli
Yuvraj
Dhoni
Jadhav
Pandya
Jadeja
Bhuvi
Shami
Bumrah

Reserves
Pandey
Rahane
Ashwin
Yadav

Where is the champions Trophy?

But yeah looks like a very strong team.

Yuvi and Dhoni will be issues not sure when we will be dealing with them,Yuvi is actually decent but his running will be an issue,Dhoni's running is great he isn't able to time the ball that well anymore.

Openers are a big issue,we need to realize we won't be playing at home and we will be playing sides like Aus,Kiwis,Saffer who take the catches almost all the time although the current Aussie team is erm slightly off.

Good thing is he is not looking vulnerable against short ball like earlier.

And Dhoni yes I agree he is not that fluent anymore but we have to persist with him till CT at least. If he doesnt perform then he should himself retire...

We will do good if we can get rid of Dhawan, Rahane and Yuvi.

Given the trophy will. Be in England I strongly feel England has a very good chance this time around given the depth of all rounders. Stokes and Woakes are different breeds on fast seaming tracks

Btw, don't count Pandaya as a finisher. Batting-wise, he is poor man's Afridi.

alhamdulillah kia karo...

Still Yuvi, he has done enough to deserve a place in team mate...

I am still not convinced about him. On surfaces where ball moves or grips, he could be a liability as he cannot rotate the strike at all. Plays too many dots.

If England throws up swinging pitches we'll be finding it a bit tough.. But our batting lineup is far more settled than CT2013

No team is perfect...every team has a chink in their armory...its about grabbing the key moments and this team has players that can do that....

On a contrary...I feel this is one of the best attack India has for England conditions ( 250 kind of pitches)

Shami
Bhuvi
Bumrah
Pandya

If pitches are flat, this attack will be massacred like rest of the attacks though...

Why same place lol, that's stupid and massively unfair.

Guess England will be competitive then considering it's home.

And guess where the 50-over World Cup in 2019 is?

*drumroll*

England! Pwoar.

Are you sure.
Woods/Woakes/Stokes/Ball/Willey and Starc/Hazlewood/Cummins/Pattinson will fare much better.
Not to forget the saffas with rabada and co

lol that's just poor planning. Though been a long time since there was a 50 over world cup in England so I might go to it, I've never been :D. Champions Trophy just doesn't excite me the same way a world cup too.

I was talking about the best possible Indian combination......our quartet can do the job well given the conditions.....they are not the best but suitable enough to extract the juice..

remember last time we won CT2103 with Bhuvi/Ishant/Yadav

Every trophy till 2023 is either in India, England and Australia. Perks of being their own Big 3 I guess?

If there is some swing on pitches , India will be hard to beat.

Indian bowling lifts itself in Big tournaments.

Yes but the pitches at that time were conducive for spin bowling and Ashwin and Jadeja played an important role

They are as prepared as they can be. England ODI pitches are the flattest in the world, not too different from what India plays on.

In form openers we had then.
We have IPl in between...can't see any reason why Rahul/Rohit/Rahane can't be in the form at the right time..plenty of matches to prepare and get in zone...

Personally I don't think our ODI team is all that. It has its weaknesses which can be exposed. You never know if Dhoni and Yuvi can perform in the same manner in which champions trophy. I would've liked Pandey to have got a game.

we have opening issues we do have answer for that as rishabh pant but selectors thinks opposite no late order hard hitter except dhoni but good think is that bowling attack of bhuvi shami bumrah ashwin and jadeja with pandy is looking good

Let's compare our team with Pakistan, as both are in the same group

Shikhar>/=Sharjeel
Rahul>Azhar
Kohli=Babar
Yuvi>Haris
Dhoni>Sarfraz
Jadhav>Akmal+Maqsood+Malik
Pandya=Imad
Jadeja>Nawaz

Ashwin<Amir (As it's in England )

Shami=Hassan
Bhubneshwar>Junaid

😂.. Lol was jus kiddin..

Kohli>>>>>>>Babar

So out of 11, 9 of our players are superior than Pakistan's.

Poor Pakistan fans.. Tough times for them.

Hope they improve (3 years would be enough, i reckon )

I disagree.
On current form.
Sarjeel > shikhar
Sarfaraz > Dhoni.
Rest are ok

I didn't mention it on current form bro.

It's hypothetical, as of 2019.

SHikhar would come good at Icc tournaments.

No way is sarfraz better than dhoni

Shami should be fit by the champions trophy so they'll have a decent attack. In batting I think there to reliant on Kohli, personally I'll be surprised if India wins the tournament.

Our ODI team is overrated. :msd

And my fellow Indian PPers, don't give up on Rahul so early.

Considering how tracks in England have been dead flat post-WC India shouldn't have much trouble batting-wise. Their fast-bowling attack still remains questionable imo though. Still, they are far from the favorites. Given home conditions, England should be the team to beat, followed by South Africa - hopefully they can avoid choking this time. After that India.

Australia are extremely overrated. Their team isn't that settled and away from home they aren't that hard to beat. I think it's going to be between them and New Zealand for a semi-final spot.

But in these type of tournaments you never know. Any team can win one game and if the momentum is on your side you keep winning. But I'd expect England, South Africa, India and either Australia or New Zealand to make the semis.

Hackas like Pandya,Jadav & Yuvi will be taken out of context on England pitches. Only Kohli and Dhoni are decent. Less said about Indian bowling is better.

India will be difficult to beat but I think either Aus or Eng are gonna win it.

The England pace attack is rubbish.

Pattinson will not be a feature of the Australian team for at least another year.

Got a good chance. Got a really strong bat lineup now. Yuvraj will give a lot of experience in the middle order. Jadhav's a revelation. Just need one opener to make any runs.
Rohit will improve this team, Dhawan needs to stop giving his wicket away. Pant will not be included at this late stage. 1 of Rahane/Rahul will get left behind.

Bowling is good, if Shami gets fit. Otherwise it's still OK. Bhuvi will do his thing in the UK, Bumrah is OK. Pandya's a good seaming all-arounder. Jadeja/ Ashwin pretty good and Yuvraj/Jadhav also options.

ENG will be favourites ,just, but SA/IND/AUS also got a very good chance. PAK a decent long bet.

Openers - they seem to be the problem.

Dhawan is clutch and so, should open but not sure about Rohit in English conditions. Maybe time to try Pant/Kishen/Iyer/SN Khan etc.?

Pathetic Dhoni is finished, he will choke up more runs and kill any momentum the team has nearly every game.
His reflexes are gone and that 100 was on a super flat pitch, dont expect anything like that again.
His average and strike rate will only be going downwards the longer he plays.

INdian top order is shaky formwise. Indian wins matches in tournaments when their bowling show up. They rarely do well purely with batting. Bowling has to punch above the weight .

I remember Dhawan went berserk in the last CT. He should open again with Rohit, he always does good in ICC events.

Jadeja was also a beast last CT, if pitches suit him again he'll be a handful.

Simole answer NO.

Too many issues with the current team
- Openers continue to struggle ( even if Rohit comes back, same issue)
- Over dependence on Kohli in chases
- Kohli's not so bright record while setting up totals
- Mediocre ODI spinners who can't pick wickets on flatter wickets
- Pacers leak far too many runs at the death and cannot puck early wickets
- Two 35 yr olds who should not be playing anylonger (despite rheir 100s at Cuttack)
- Better ODI teams esp in English conditions - Eng, Aus and SA and perhaos even NZ

Only thing that can work for us is our abiliy to raise the performances in ICC tournament but as of now we will be lucky to play the Semis.

India's ODI team isn't as good as it has been in the recent past.

Btw, don't count Pandaya as a finisher. Batting-wise, he is poor man's Afridi.

Pandya's batting has been incredible this series. His average is 115 at a strikerate of 130.

We need to get Rahane out of the team. He lost us the WT20, next he could lose us the CT.

I agree ... but was disappointed with Rahul's failures. Need to find 2 openers. Not sure whats the story with Rohit.

Yeah, we could really use an in-form Rohit back.

Nair scored the last century of his triple from 79 balls. Deserves a chance with the ODI side I think.

Good point ... also Vijay seems to be in good form.

On the bowling side of things ...am I the only one that is worried about Ashwin leaking runs ? I think he is losing his mojo in the shorter formats plus his fitness levels are very poor.

Seriously, these God damn last six months have been depressing as hell !! :( - Similar to Junior Akmal I usually end up consuming comfort food whenever Pakistan looses any given match.... Sad sad state of affairs.....

I was also reading some thread and apparently Slog and Sarfarazian92 were slitting their wrists as well....

Karachi boys loosing their marbles apparently :)) :))

England are the favorites at home, but India is looking strong too.

Might be an England-India final.

The question is, what will Australia bring to the table? You know they're going to show up and bring their 'A' game.

Maybe dropping Ashwin for a game may get him motivated again. He did come back strong after getting bashed in Australia.

His stats have been incredible, not his batting. Majority of Pandaya's shots fly off edges, and he will have to be extremely lucky to repeat these performances. He is still a valuable addition, but we shouldn't get our hopes too high.

Fielding of such disgraceful levels deserves wrist slitting

Perhaps the upcoming t20s will resolve our opening woes. And perhaps last chance for Rahul to cement his place in CT....

Vijay is a test match player only.He has only one type of slog six which he uses when he wants to accelerate. He would be rahane part 2.Watch his IPL inning where he scored 100 when he first came to prominence for consideration for shorter formats. You will get what I am trying to say.We want naturally short format players. Not forced.

As others have pointed out......real strength is way different from paper strength.

If our players get back to form and click, I see us as the number 1 contender to win.

But too many issues. So its hard to predictable what will happen.

True. At the same time, you guys always have 3-4 players who step up in ICC events so I'm sure ya'll are Top 3 contenders alongside ENG and Aus.

Yeah. We are top contenders anyway but talking about winning it.

Banking on a few to step up.

I am not convinced with that flash in the pan performance from Dhoni and Yuvi. And Rahane :))

Need to get the opening combination right. Bowling looks ok. So some progress has been made in the recent series as Jhadav has covered lot of holes. India will be in contention but they are not exactly ready at this point.

Openers are unproven.

Jadhav has come out to be a positive at no.6 position.Pandya will also be there at 7..

I think Yuvraj has done enough to make it to the XI. The guy still has the aura of clean hitting and playing big innings.

One of Ashwin/ Jadeja should play in the XI and that has to be Jadeja.

Dhoni is still not convincing enough.

This team would be really strong :

Rahul
Rohit
Kohli(c)
R.Pant
Dhoni(WK)
K.Jadhav
H.Pandya/yuvraj singh
R Jadeja
B kumar/Umesh(swing or bounce respectively available)
M shami
J Bumrah

Also j bumrah needs to learn to hold his bat at least. You cannot be that did today's era

IPL will be key for us. Roles have been set, so we aren't looking for players. That's a big plus.

Bowling seems average, but with the batting force they possess, they sure are serious contenders along with England,South Africa and Australia.
