I’m not saying India doesn’t have a huge poverty problem, and I’m definitely not calling it a superpower like some people exaggerate. But you can’t ignore the economic progress it’s made since the 90s. The US is still the only real superpower, but people there struggle too, despite strong job growth. That’s not because of a bad economy, it’s because of inequality, wealth distribution, and corporate greed.
Back in the 90s, India decided to move away from IMF loans and started investing heavily in itself, which led to real progress. Then came Modi, and things shifted, economic policies started serving more religious and ideological goals instead of growth. A good example. His recent US visit, which ended with him getting a “to do list” from the US before heading back.
The big difference between India and Pakistan is that in India, if a leader isn’t delivering, people can vote them out and change direction. In Pakistan, dictators always find a way to stay in power.
You’re saying democracy can’t work in Pakistan, but when has it ever really been given a chance?
