Is Sachin Tendulkar really the epitome of cricket integrity?

We often hear that cricket is a gentleman's game and how Tendulkar was an honest man. But is that really the truth? Was his career blemish free?

I would disagree because he was caught ball tampering and then he also gave a false statement to protect Harbhajan.

A ball tamperer is definitely not the epitome of integrity to me!! Please discuss.
 
That would be Rahul Dravid, most people would consider Rahul ahead in that matter.

I agree but why is it that in the media it's always the ball tamperer that gets all the adulation. Dravid was a better human being and a better cricketer than the ball tamperer.

Too bad we didn't have dozens of cameras back in the 80/90 decade, a lot of the so called greats would be much less great(er) today. Of course everyone knows who they are & what they did, heck the Windians beat the daylights out of them, when they used the same tactics.

Sachin was was never convicted of ball tampering. While Dravid was convicted of ball tampering. This is hilarious.

Sachin was shown to be clearly lifting the seam with his fingers in the footage.
 
As for giving a false statement to protect Harbhajan, how does anyone know that what he said is false? :))
 
Ball tampering should be allowed anyways. Even the English used mint in 05’ to get reverse swing. But you don’t hear that do ya?

That's not even the point I was making. Will get to that later. It was about the OP making laughable claims about his hero being a saint and accusing others of doing things for which his hero was himself convicted of.
 
hahahhaha after all he is human....but one thing i found strange and a bit sorry to say but tnedulkar should have congratulated pakistan on CT win.not related to his career though.

He played almost 2 and half decades cricket and hardly involved in any allegations if not any

A true roll model in and off the field

I would have select amla too,his gesture to not endorse any alcohol brand on his jersey was prodigious.Later many cricketers followed the way
 
Its remarkable how a boring individual like him got so much fame, money, adulation.

Kohli is a lot more interesting and marketable.

Unfortunately, this notion that acha bachas are the epitome of cricket was head strong in those days and still today. More than anything, it was Sachins run making that drew worldwide audiences. He was so smooth at the crease and the only Indian cricketer who was world class in the 90’s. That’s why I love cricketers like Kholi or Warne. Guys who aren’t afraid to go the extra mile to succeed. Sachin for all his numbers was just that, numbers. Not as impactful as a DK or Richards, not as tough as a Border or Waugh, not as exciting as a Lara or Akram but simply Kallis with the hint of Indian flare for 24 years.

When and where did any Pakistani poster deny ball tampering? Fact of the matter is tendulkar is a cheat that got caught tampering the ball. I am sorry if it hurts your feelings but it's the truth.
 
Whatever the issue, Sachin was never involved in Fixing and doping. Ball tampering was an allegation at that time even with the video available. Lying for Bhajji shouldn't be counted, since any teammate or patriot would've done that. Knowing about Azhar fixing shouldn't be included in the crime, since Sachin wasn't the one fixing.

All in all, he was indeed a true gentleman of the game.

Firstly did tampering the ball give Sachin an advantage in what he accomplished? I don’t think so unless you have a unique take on it.

Now coming to him being the epitome of integrity...is there something that happened recently, I missed that triggered you?

Anyway we are able to separate our cricketing heroes from their on field and off field shenanigans...even the most hardcore of Sachin fans criticized his Rajya Sabha attendance...it is not like we are blindly going to ask him to be the prime minister and save us.

So Again I fail to understand the purpose of this thread.

It doesn't matter if he achieved anything from the ball tampering. It's a form of cheating and hence he's a cheat. They can use other examples to talk about cricket integrity i.e. Misbah.
 
Lol... Tendulkar was punished for cleaning the ball without Umpire's permission and not ball tampering. That is the fact of the issue. ICC even released a press statement about this.

Creating a mountain out of a molehill or to be more precise, creating a thread out of nothing.

Even the other allegation is false.
 
He was clearly guilty of tampering, got into scuffles with his captains albeit behind closed doors, apparently cared more for his personal records than his team's results and he has never been a consistent walker.

Definitely not the "epitome of integrity" but he was no crook either. One of the more well-behaved cricket superstars.
 
Yes, he was one of the great gentleman to play this game. Imagine, playing for Two and half decade and yet people resorting to half cooked allegations to implicate you. One of the greatest on and off the field. Absolute gem of a person.
 
1.Tendulkar was acquitted to Ball tampering charges.Thats the ICC ruling.Anything wont change that.

2.Who lied and who didnot lie in the Bhajji case isnt known.

people questioning Sachin's acquittal by icc must remember that the icc also acquitted Inzy and the Pakistani team of tampering charges in 2006.

Is he above criticism. He wasn't a saint and you can clearly see in the video that he was tampering with the seam. He was a cheat and got caught. I'm sure there would be more incidents of this if we had cameras like we do today.

If you can find less than 5 major incidents in a 24 year career, then that means he was pretty good.

If he was aware, then it shows that he is not the man of integrity that he is portrayed to be. If he was unaware, then it sums up what an embarrassing leader he was.

Which is probably true to be fair, he was a joke of a captain who chickened out because he couldn't handle the pressure being the softie that he is.

He's rarely been involved in any controversy and he wasn't charged with any ball tampering.

When did I ever say he is innocent? I was speaking specifically of the doctored video.You were the one claiming that he was denying in that video. He simply chose to not speak on that matter.

This. I don't ever remember him pretending to be a saint. For a man who played for 24 years, he was relatively controversy free and rarely lashed out at anyone in the media.

The first requirement of becoming a representative of cricket is that the player has to acheive something remarkable.Sorry if it hurts:misbah4

Now PP is a court ? I did not read all the above threads. But if Sachin is accused of ball tampering, it could be only that test from 2001.He has some issue with Indians in 2000/01 episode. Infact, India should have pulled out of that tour after that incidient. SA cricket board worked out some plans and the tour continued after recognising that test as forfeited test as something. That match referee Chris Broad was the same guy in the gatting shakur rana episode. He refused to walk even after getting out. His son stuart, has the same genes - considers himself eternally NOT out. And this broad's word is taken for granted. He is the same as the old generation of egoist/vain cricketers like Lilley. When the source is trash, the news becomes trash. Simple.

I never said he was a bad role model but he's not the saint that indians will make him out to be. He was a cheat, selfish and had scuffles and tantrums at his own players.
