Culture is established through top down approach. What can one expect when an 80 years old man is made PCB chairman? Shahriar Khan might have watched AH Karder leading a young side like a father figure & Shahriar is a burrocrate, he 'll never break the seniority chain. If he stays, after Misbah, Hafeez, Ajmal & Gul 'll be the Captains, even Malik has a better chance than Shehzad , Maqsood, JK or UAkmal.
My first CEO was a German Engineer, MBA from LBS; 35 years old, left us at 38 to Europe. That fancy guy used to work for 100+hrs/week; fly over 10 hrs/week & still had time to play 18 holes on Saturday & party till 5AM on Thursday night (Friday is start of weekend in BD). His mother tongue was German, hardly have seen better speaking Englishmen, kept house tutor to learn workable Bangla. In 3 years, never found him sick for an hr, never found him late for a minute, never found him under prepared for even the 20th meeting of the day at 9pm & never saw him without smile. He was the junior most CXO, but could instruct the CFO, CMO, CTO & COO instantly.
Now he is in his late 40s, last time I came to know that he has retired from Vodafone & doing his PHD at Cambridge on Corporate Governance. Reason - he felt he was too old to cope with the younger generation who are more adaptive, multidimensional & multi skilled. He wants a peaceful life & end rest of his life studying & teaching.
Our Shahriar Khan has started his career at 81, & helping YK to restart his odi career at 40.
