What's new

Joe Root's 218 helps England reach 555/8 at Stumps on Day 2 in the 1st Test against India

There is a difference of class now tides have turned Australia isn’t that Australia no more India and England are elite teams above them

No really. One bad series doesn't change the fact that Australia are a better Test side than England and have won 6 while losing just 2 in their last 10 games against them. And one of those defeats was in once in a lifetime circumstance..

The same Heads and Burns and the Wades were piling runs against other teams...

No really sure about that, Australia have the Ashes with them since 2016. Even a Ben Stokes masterclass wasn't enough for England to retain the Ashes at their home conditions last time.

Retain? England didn’t have them. Australia retained them.

It was in the Bayliss era - he didn’t understand test cricket and picked ODI bangers. Root had too much to do outside batting and his form suffered. Also England lost Anderson after four overs of the series. I think England would win a home Ashes now. The top order batting has more strength, and Silverwood has taken work from Root and he is scoring heavily again.

What the hell. Who prepared this world flattest track.. Pathetic management.

I am switching to Pak vs SA match.

Brit-New Zealander Stokes has played a superb knock already.
Reverse sweeps to take the rough out. Missing Jaddu :uak
He could be England's Brit-South African KP on an India tour though I expect India to bounce back after perhaps a shocker in the 1st test.
C'mon Rohit, Gill, Kohli, Pant. Hope they're not exhausted by the time they come out to bat.
Anyway long story short, with Brit Buttler still to come, boring England are finally watchable on Day 2 :rabada2

Wow, just tuned in to see England in a very comfortable position. 378-3. SHould get to 600 before entertaining thoughts of declaring. Pitch is so flat, they could bat 3 days and tire out the Indian bowlers for the rest of the series as well.

Is kohli the worst captain interms of winning toss?
Has lost 10 tosses in his last 11 tests against England!

Root’s obviously batting incredibly well. But India has got to stop making pitches likes these. I’m glad it’s combing back to bite them for once. Test cricket in India is the least enjoyable out of all the major Test nations in my opinion, solely due to the roads they plant in the middle of the fields for every Test match.

But aren’t most Test pitches prepared in India like this? Obviously probably not all this flat, but they all seem to be fairly lifeless.

Yes, not this flat!!! Pitches like mohali, edern garden there would be some help for either the quicks or spinners not this flat..
Would rather lose on pitches like edern garden than winning on these kind of pitches.

True. Given how good this Indian Test side is, they deserve to be playing on much better pitches at home. Kohli was spot on about the limited Test centres a few years ago, India need to go down that route and prepare good quality Test match pitches.

Indian captain is over-bowling Bumrah here. He has bowled well on this patta and has been our best bowler doesn't mean you overbowl him.

Shivaramakrishnan in the comm box! Not seen him since the Gower tour of India.

50 overs to go, 205 to get to 600. At the rate they are going they wont make it to 600 today..

Pitch still looking lifeless.

Looks like a draw all the way.....at the moment.

England will bat till lunch tomorrow and declare at 650.

2 and a half days to pick 20 Indian wickets on this track.

We all know where this is heading. :jimmy

England can save this match if they can score another 200. Didn't expect England will play that good.

Lol no they wouldn't have. I know they're struggling a bit at the moment but let's not jump the gun here.

This is a lifeless wicket with nothing for the bowlers. Warner and Smith both would have scored daddy hundreds.

They couldn't do it at their own home ground against an attack that had just 13 wickets amongst them. So I doubt. Lot of mediocrity in there except for Steve Smith and Labuschagne.

England are thriving on confidence, Root, Stokes, Buttler, Baristow, Pope, Archer, Broad, Anderson still looking better by the day even at 38! and both their spinners are doing a good job.

They batted very well last time too here and also most of the series during first innings. Its their bowling and second innings batting which made them lose the series 4-0.

I doubt England will get to 650. If Root gets out soon, they could be out for 480.

Lots of premature match results being predicted above.... never call a pitch until both sides have batted on it!!

Are James, amazing prescience to call a test match after four sessions.

Cricket played in India can be very boring. Contrast this with any series in Eng or Australia. Bowlers look like tools

Have England gotten slow? They should attack and try to post 600 today and declare. Broad would have probably enjoyed pinch hitting here.

We aren't winning once they go past 500.

Milking the bowlers very easily now.

India looking a bit negative.

Brings up his 200 in the grand manner!

Magnificent from Root. Never seen a patch this purple by an Englishman.

Fifth 200 in tests; three as skipper, all away from home.

Regardless of the result, England have really tired out Indian bowlers out here.

And given Ashwin's recent injury issues, if he somehow doesn't last the whole series, then things could get tougher for India without both Jaddu and Ashwin.

A question to England fans Robert & James , how's Root's back holding up these days? I remember he had to keep popping pills to sedate the pain circa 15-16.

England could declare after 500 seriously there is no Karun nair this time no one scores a triple ton like that and that quick that’s once in a decade it’ll come not this time from anyone

Not before 600. Make all runs in first innings. Doubly harder in second innings

First double hundred by a foreign player in India since 2010. (Hashim Amla at Nagpur).

Well played Root.

The pitch is so reddish, seems like playing in Sahara desert.

What an innings by Root!

It’s been chance less that’s the great things g

When was the last time India had to bowl thing long in a home test match?

Smith probably would have. Warner always has a mistake or two in him. The rest of the Aussie batsmen are hopeless in australia let alone in India.

You dont need a Karun nair triple to score 500 in an innings in India. In 2013, even Dhoni scored a 200 and India scored 500 plus.

Doubt it, he is starting to look tired. Very hot out there for a Yorkshireman, it’s grim ‘oop North.

England need to ramp up the scoring rate now and then put india down to bat for 10-15 overs.

I’d like a fresh Anderson to get two bites of the cherry. 4-5 overs today and then restart tomm.

I think England’s failing could be their spinners. And not even the fact that they might not be great wicket takers but more importantly that they could leak a lot of runs and build no pressure.

Teams actual ranking:-

1. India
2. Australia
3. New Zealand
4. England

Rest are all trash.

Bat for 700 unless Kohli gives up and starts bowling the part timers and waiting for the declaration.

Either way, India can't win this so they have 3 games left to qualify.

England with this Root would hammer Aus.

Aus would beat us home and away, but they would get pumped by India and England home and away.

They're not going to get a result here, may as well think the long game and break down their bowlers.

Lol Wades and Heads certainly aren’t piling runs. One averaged 30 and the other averaged 27 in 2019 Ashes. Smith was batting for 3 people in 2019 Ashes
