Why would you retire a young batsman when he is set to get a hundred? To get bowlers in.
Because he isn't part of the Test squad and give the fragility of our batting, we need our bowlers to get in form with the bat.

i might go for a one day or t20
i live in Qusais
where do u live?

target of 365...

would be interesting to see how many wickets pak can get ...

good decision by lala again...gives all the bowlers enough time to get some practice

Uh, Shahid Afridi is not even on the field, for those praising his captaincy.

Salman Butt is the deputy for this tour.

arabian ranches...5 mins away from sports city stadium ;-)

leme know we can go n watch it togther or something...

amir on 44 and malik on 48 and they declare, thats weird!

Afridi should jus bowl Riaz not too much of gul or amir dont want to over work them and they might get injured! Insha-allah hopefully they won't

I have a feeling that Afridi didn't let them get 50's becuz he's trying to send a message to the players that these performances aren't the ones that count, its the ones in the real matches that will count so perform in those!!

alryt good captaincy by buttah then.....the initial message is probably coming ffrom lala though

Uh, the shots are being called from the pavilion. Pakistan is batting so the only Pakistanis on the field were Malik and Aamer.

Now you're really taking the mick - the pavillion is on a field :p

Probably should have waited till tea. Although it'll be fine if Afridi gives Riaz and himself some good bowling practice.

Aamer shouldnt even bowl 6 overs here imo.

Brilliant performance by Pakistan here. This will for sure give them a world of confidence when they face Australia. I hope they do well.

Crease occupation was the order of the morning for Pakistan’s top-order
players as the tourists took time for essential batting practice on a good St
Lawrence pitch in this their opening first-class fixture of a near three-
month tour.
By lunch on the final day of this three-day friendly the tourists had reached
175 for two – an overall lead of 276 – with Shoaib Malik, new in the middle
on (11*), together with Fawad Alam, who batted through the session to
reach 68 not out.
Alam had enjoyed a second-wicket stand worth 141 in 36.4 overs with
Umar Amin who, after posting an attractive 72-ball half-century, finally
went after 170-minutes for 73.
Leaning back to pull a ball from leg-spinner Mark Lawson, left-handed
Amin got a top-edge to one that appeared to skid onto him and skied a
comfortable catch to Joe Denly at mid-wicket.
Alam ’s half-century came in a shade over two hours from 101 balls and
with seven fours as Lawson, bowling in tandem with off-spinner James
Hockley, started to restrict scoring opportunities and cause the pair a few
problems.
Though their talismanic captain Shahid Afridi was absent from the ground
undergoing a precautionary scan on a troublesome rib injury, it would
seem almost certain that the tourists will bat on for much of the final
day.

the only prblm is this is the last day!!

yeah true, but our bowlers are in pretty decent nick, and hopefully aamer and co rip through the kent order.

app tu bare log ho :ibutt

me in ajman :13:

This isn't even a 2nd string Kent side. More like 4th string.

Just look at their stats. Inexperience oozing out.

is it me or does gul change his bowling action in tests slightly and he seems to go for more line and length rather than bowling full

Six! i think coz its the last day they're jus gonna go out and have a bit of a slog

Having said that its only gullah getting hit so hes either getting targeted or is just bowling badly!

The thing that worries me is that J. Denly is the only decent player in Kent and he has played well. When the real action starts we will meet players who are much better than Denly so Umar Gul better start bowling better here.

Coz he is not a good Test Bowler and he will go for plenty

One could argue that because of M. asif's absence Gul is bowling not so well as gul is more of a first change bowler and gud with the old ball coz he gets it reversing a abit, but that is a pretty weak argument he shud be doing way better than this.

Hes the most economical bowler in t20s yet expensive in tests, i dont really understand that.

GUL leaking big time here, imagine when the real matches start!! Just proves that we are a couple of test bowlers short in our squad. Sami is miles ahead of Gul in test cricket and should've been in the squad.

You're basing this on a tour match?

Who knows maybe the new guy Tanivr Ahmed( right name?) gets a look in the first test or maybe the second one given Gul throws out poor performance.

No based on Sami's recent comeback in Australia, and GUL's previous performances in Test matches. Not too long ago, GUL was being called a T-20 Specialist bowler. Not saying he's bad, but Sami is better IMO

Is sami any good with the old ball? Reverse swing?
Coz with Mohammad Asif and Amir i cant see him opening the bowling
Is :Sami in the test squad?

:gul has 96 wickets in 26 test matches and :Sami has 84 wicket in 34 test matches

Gul has always struggled with the new ball. It shouldn't be an inssue with Asif an Amir sharing the new ball and Gul coming on as first change.

Just relax.

Gul is one of the most brainless cricketers around. He is only suited to pyjama cricket, simply not a thinking bowler like Akhtar, Aamer and Asif.

But recently, Sami in the ausi tour didnt ball to badly, in the 2nd test he got the top 3 batsmen out...so he might have improved a bit.
The wicket he got with Shane watson was an absolute peach

That's a good point. But sami is a far improved bowler, if you saw the recent tour to Australia.

that pitch was a green top pitch nd what did he do in the 2nd innings and the t20 world cup??

what a shame declaring before they got an 50....
As afridi said during Asia Cup the problem with our players is that they get a 50 & feel that the job is done. I like the fact that we declared before the 50's were scored

Exactly what im trying to hint at. Everybody is just hyping up his comeback, not even remembering how bad he was before

Why drop hints? Just come out and say what you're thinking.

Gul may not be firing on all cylinders erring on the side of caution as he fully regains fitness, so I wouldn't be too critical of him. But generally he doesn't take Test cricket with the same vigor and intensity as limited over formats and that remains a concern.
