Low ticket sales for India’s tour of Australia

It seems like the largest Boxing Day crowds for the last ten years are for:

1) England
2) India
3) SA
4) SL
5) Pakistan (rain affected)
6) WI

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boxing_Day_Test#List_of_Boxing_Day_Test_matches

The country that does really poorly is WI, no surprise. However, SL ahead of Pakistan is a bit of a surprise. NZ hasn't played a Boxing Day game for a very long time.

An attendance of 73K+ yesterday is the highest for a non-England game in the last 15 years, and is very good considering the recent cheating bans of Aussie players.

Day 1- 73, 516
Day 2 - 36, 524
Day 3 - 33, 547

Disappointing after day 1. Expected a slightly better number.

Total 143500 over three days. And total 336000 in the three tests so far.

Just for brother Junaids benefit, Pakistan had a total attendance of 320000 across the three tests in 2016 despite one of them being a day night test with significantly higher numbers. So sad to see a top tier team having less attendance vs a team of nobodies.

Had said early in the thread that by the end of this series, we would have seen attendance of 500000. On course to achieve around 460000-470000.

A ground filled at 20% of its capacity will naturally look sparse. Expected better figures from this test though, around 200000 will end at 20% lower

But I think as leg-side-flick said, no one wants to see your own team losing!

Tomorrow is a gold coin donation day, irrespective of the results, I hope we see 15-20000 turning up to support the cause.

Day 5 attendance- 13147. So great to see these many fans turn up for just a few overs.

Takes the total test attendance to 176489. Total series attendance at 369500. On course to hit the 475000 mark for the series.

That attendance is enough to make Junaids Bhai away from this thread

It's actually remarkable, how many people turn up to see a match when it's raining with the match going to be over in a few overs....

I wouldn't have gone

Some poor attendance on day 4 of SA-Pak too. People need more reasons to watch test cricket.

Found it pretty incredible that India's 2014-15 tour to Australia enjoyed a greater TV audience within Australia than the 2016-17 Ashes.

The TV numbers this year took a hit. Wasted days on account of rain, tests not going the full distance, the local stars Smith and Warner not being available, disillusionment of fans on account of Cape town controversy, home team losing, and cricket being on Pay TV possible reasons?

Like every other Junaid thread this one backfires as well ;))

That’s why we shouldn’t go after him much. His posts end up being positive for the Indians. I hope he keeps posting such threads. If we go after him too much, then he will stop posting such threads.

And how interested do you think the cricket public will be in watching India come back too soon yet again?

Cricket Australia might like the rupees from Indian TV. But does anyone in Australia actually want to watch?

Looking at the record subscription rates for this series , looks like the Ausdie public were very happy to have India back this early.
