Any bold predictions for the upcoming year?

Who would have though ake and akanji would be City's starting CB pairing at start of season

No club has won 4 English league titles in a row. There is plenty of motivation for City to win another title.

Burnley wont make it easy but should be beaten soundly tonight.

Turf Moor is quite a compact small ground so they could make it tough, but if city get an early goal could be massacre.

Ive never been, heard it can be very windy but the weather is decent today.

Im interested in seeing how physical Burnley are.

My prediction. 1-2 - KDB to score the opener for City.

KDB off injured already, not good sign for City. Seems more injury prone every season

0-2 the machine known as haaland scores again

KDB injured again.

City's midfield options don't look as strong this season with Mahrez and Gundogan not there.

Peps already looking at paqueta, doku and mitoma. I don't think KDB van stay fit all season

Erling Haaland was back in the old routine with a devastating display of finishing as Manchester City opened the defence of their Premier League title with a comfortable victory at Burnley.

The goalscoring phenomenon, who hit 52 goals as City won the Treble of Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League last season, took only 185 seconds to open his account for the new campaign, striking a blow from which the newly promoted Clarets never recovered.
Haaland pounced in the area when Rodri headed down Kevin de Bruyne's cross, then curled in a magnificent left-foot strike into the top corner beyond Burnley keeper James Trafford after 36 minutes to effectively end the contest.

Burnley, roared on by a passionate home crowd, never gave up but City's control grew more emphatic as the game went on, Rodri turning home the third with 15 minutes left after the home defence failed to clear a free-kick.

It all ended very comfortably for City, their night only marred by another injury for De Bruyne, who limped off after only 23 minutes to be replaced by summer signing Mateo Kovacic.

Burnley had Anass Zaroury sent off in injury time, after a the video assistant referee review, for a dangerous lunge on Kyle Walker.

City in 2nd gear tonight.

A walk in the park for them.

Looks like it could be a long season for Burnley.

Bukayo Saka's superb first-half strike helped Arsenal begin their Premier League campaign with a 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest on the opening weekend.

The 21-year-old England forward added to Eddie Nketiah's 26th minute opener with a curling effort from outside the area that nestled itself into the top left corner of the Forest net, well past the reach of former Gunners keeper Matt Turner.
But last season's Premier League runners-up had to survive a late charge by Forest after substitute Taiwo Awoniyi clawed a goal back in the 83rd minute.

The game had been delayed by 30 minutes because of an e-ticketing system issue that meant the majority of fans were still outside Emirates Stadium at the scheduled kick-off time of 12:30 BST.

When play did eventually get underway, it was Nottingham Forest with the first clear-cut chance when Brennan Johnson was put through on goal against Aaron Ramsdale, but the Wales forward lofted his shot high and wide when the Arsenal goalkeeper rushed off his mark.

Forests' chances for the remainder of the game were few and far between until Awoniyi helped the visitors roar to life and create a tense finish.

Luton's first match back in the top flight for 31 years ended in heavy defeat as Joao Pedro and Simon Adingra marked their debuts with a goal each in a comfortable Brighton win.

Solly March headed in after 35 minutes before Pedro, signed for a club-record fee around £30m from Watford, scored a second-half penalty following a foul by Luton captain Tom Lockyer.

The Hatters pulled a goal back with nine minutes remaining when last season's top scorer Carlton Morris converted another penalty - awarded for handball against Lewis Dunk - but 21-year-old Ivorian Adingra sealed the Seagulls' win by slotting home after a bad mistake from Luton's Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu.

Eighteen-year-old Ireland international Evan Ferguson then tapped in Pervis Estupinan's cross in stoppage time to cap an impressive start to the campaign for the home side.

The Hatters had acquitted themselves well in their first Premier League outing - their last match in the top flight came in 1992 before Premier League rebrand - but Brighton were worthy winners.

Pedro, 21, should have opened the scoring after five minutes but scuffed a gilt-edged chance wide from eight yards.

The Seagulls, who left midfielder Moises Caicedo out of their squad amid interest from Chelsea and Liverpool, also hit the post three times.

Brighton look like they will do well again this season

3 goals already in evening game - Newcastle lead villa 2-1

How bad were Aston Villa!

All over the place especially after Mings went off.

Newcastle could easily have score 8 today.

Absolutely delighted with that

Game was a lot closer in the first half but we battered them in the second, they were quite lucky we didn't score more than 5
You looked very fluid, very powerful and strong in midfield. Tonali n isak were good

Tottenham began life after Harry Kane with an entertaining draw against Brentford on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.

Kane's move from his boyhood club to Bayern Munich was confirmed on Saturday, and goals from Christian Romero and Emerson Royal earned new Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou a point on Sunday.

Brentford, who began the league campaign without talisman Ivan Toney, had taken the lead through Yoane Wissa after Bryan Mbeumo's penalty cancelled out Romero's opener.

Spurs have now failed to win on their three visits to the Gtech Community Stadium, where kick-off was delayed by six minutes because of a water supply issue.

When play did begin, Argentina defender Romero opened the scoring with a guided header from debutant James Maddison's fierce free-kick.

It proved to be Romero's final contribution as he was replaced by Postecoglou as a precaution after appearing to complain of a knock to the head in the celebration.

The Bees recovered and won a spot-kick when Spurs' new captain Son Heung-min brought down Mathias Jensen for Mbuemo to convert and stretch his goalscoring run to four consecutive top-flight games.

Wissa was then the beneficiary of Rico Henry's blistering surge down the left-hand side before side-footing the cutback past Guglielmo Vicario, via a deflection off the boot of Micky van de Ven, to dampen their debuts.

Royal scored the pick of the goals with a guided finish in the fifth minute of 11 added on at the end of a thrilling first half.

0-2 salah in so much space again.

Could be a massacre this

Chelsea score twice in a minute 2-1 🤣

Poor for 30 mins and now ahead

And goal is disallowed.

It's 1-1

HALF-TIME

Chelsea 1-1 Liverpool

Chelsea were poor for 30 mins and lucky not to be 2-0 down. Liverpool look good going forward and shambolic at back.

Neither team can defend

Chelsea looking good in the 2nd half.

Liverpool all over the place in defence again.

1-1 fair result in end

Chelsea began their Premier League season with a draw against Liverpool in Mauricio Pochettino's first competitive game in charge.

Luis Diaz opened the scoring early on for the away side before Chelsea debutant Axel Disasi equalised for the Blues in the 37th minute.

Ben Chilwell and Mohamed Salah had goals ruled out in the first half following video assistant referee checks.

Despite half chances for Diaz and another debutant, Nicolas Jackson, neither side could capitalise on their opportunities and prevent a fifth consecutive draw between the sides.

Raphael Varane headed a late winner against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford as Manchester United made a winning start to the new season.

The game was heading towards a goalless draw before Aaron Wan-Bissaka picked out the centre-back to head in.
Impressive Wolves had numerous chances to take the lead before then, with Matheus Cunha hitting the woodwork.

Goalkeeper Andre Onana and midfielder Mason Mount made their Premier League debuts for the hosts.

Three Premier League officials at the centre of a decision not to award a penalty to Wolves at Manchester United have been overlooked for this weekend's matches.

Wolves were denied a late penalty on Monday when United keeper Andre Onana crashed into Sasa Kalajdzic and failed to make contact with the ball.

United won 1-0 at Old Trafford.

Wolves boss Gary O'Neil said elite referees manager Jon Moss told him he "could not believe" the error.

It is also understood referees' chief Howard Webb, who is head of the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), contacted Wolves officials after the match to apologise.

Referee Simon Hooper, video assistant referee (VAR) Michael Salisbury and assistant VAR Richard West are regarded as "not selected" rather than "dropped" as the weekend appointments had not been made prior to Monday's game.

However, the move is a direct result of the collective failure to award the injury-time penalty and is part of Webb's demand for enhanced accountability for mistakes.

"Jon Moss said it was a blatant penalty and should have been given - fair play to him, he apologised," said O'Neil after the match, which United won with Raphael Varane's 76th-minute header.

"I have spent a lot of time with him today to understand the new guidelines, trying not to get myself booked in the first game, which I have failed in.

"But fair play to Jon for coming out and saying it was a clear and obvious error - he couldn't believe the on-field referee didn't give it and can't believe VAR [video assistant referee] didn't intervene.

"It probably made me feel worse, actually, because you know you are right. I feel worse about leaving with nothing. Live, I was told they didn't think it was a clear and obvious error."

Moss, who was appointed general manager of England's elite referees within PGMOL in April, sought out O'Neil between his broadcast and written media obligations.

In April, Salisbury was stood down for a game after he did not intervene to award Brighton a penalty in a defeat at Tottenham while also acting as the VAR.

Former leading referee Webb spoke before the season began about his desire to drive up standards and reduce high-profile mistakes.

'Nothing happened'
Onana disagreed with O'Neil and Moss, saying the incident was just a natural coming together of players.

Asked if it was a penalty, the Cameroon international said: "No, goalkeepers make decisions, sometimes you are right, sometimes you are not.

"I made a decision and I am responsible for everything. For me it was contact between two big guys and nothing happened. But for us, the most important thing was to win and I am happy for the victory.

"Of course I was confident [a penalty would not be given]."

United manager Erik ten Hag said "it can always happen" when asked if he was concerned whether Hooper was going to the monitor as he moved towards the side of the pitch.

In fact, the referee was going to book O'Neil for his protest, in line with the zero-tolerance policy for any managerial aggression towards officials this season.

"I spoke to Howard Webb every Sunday last season around decisions that didn't go our way," said ex-Bournemouth manager O'Neil. "I felt it was attached to us being Bournemouth.

"I don't think officials are favouring one side, I just think it is human nature if there is something you are not quite sure on, you, me, everybody would be impacted by the Old Trafford crowd and the fact it is Manchester United. But VAR should be able to give a penalty."

Interesting opening weekend of the PL.

City were looking their usual lethal self, even though it was Burnley, a very clinical performance.

Arsenal were average, they are not winning anything if they dont improve very quickly.

Utd were shocking, a mid table team type performance. Wolves outplayed them most of the match, by far the better team and were also robbed blindly with an obvious penalty not given.

Liverpool looked sublime in the first half. Diaz goal was Liverpool of old, at their very best. 2nd half Chelsea were better but both teams looked good at times. Both teams happy with a draw.

Newcastle looked the best, some brilliant football and finishing was superb. Villa a shambles.

Early days so far but apart from City and Newcastle, the other so called top 6 need improvement.

HALF-TIME

Nottingham Forest 1-0 Sheffield United

Forest deservedly lead at the break.

Notts Forest 2-1 Sheff Utd

NF played very well, good team spirit and a lot of hard running. I cant see Forest anywhere near relegation this season.

Sheffield utd, Luton and wolves are going down. If Everton get points deducted for FFP il swap them with wolves

Chris Wood headed home the winner for Nottingham Forest in the 89th minute against Sheffield United for their first Premier League win of the season.

Wood, who had come on as a substitute, flicked a header past United keeper Wes Foderingham to send the City Ground crowd wild.
Gustavo Hamer scored a stunner on his Sheffield United debut to give the newly promoted side hope early in the second half.

Hamer, who signed from Coventry City last Friday, struck into the top corner from the edge of the box for his first goal for his new club.

United were significantly improved after going 1-0 down early on and equalised just two minutes and eight seconds after the restart.

Taiwo Awoniyi had opened the scoring for Forest with two minutes and 23 seconds on the clock.

Awoniyi headed home from Serge Aurier's cross to give Forest an early lead.

Im going for those 3 who came up, Luton, Sheff and Burnley.

Wolves played some outstanding football, took Utd to the cleaners at times at Old Trafford. Too good to go down imo.

Everton also played well at home although losing the match to Fulham who grabbed the goal against the run. I think we will see how they fair against Villa away this weekend. Vila will be desperate for a win, which could leave them short at the back against counters.

Wolves can play good football, but they don't score enough goals, same reason they struggled last season. Also defensively they aren't as solid as last year.

Everton will definitely struggle, if they had been relegated they would have gone bust. If they get points deducted this season they are in huge trouble.

Wolves next up home to Brighton. 3-1 for Wolves to win is crazy odds imo, they are better but we will see.

Goodison Park is always a tough place to travel, Arsenal know it well. I think they will win enough home games, a couple against the top 6 too.

Interesting to see how Brighton handle things once European football starts in September and how seriously they take it and rotate.

Their manager is excellent but losing their best two mids could hurt them as the season progresses.

I'd still back them to reach 1/4's or more. Really good for the club, although it will be freezing Brighton is a nice town for visiting fans.

At sumpoint there scouting of players will get less effective, and they will need to invest in ready made players from profits they are making. I think they will have a good season again though

Told you wolves would be poor

Brighton heading to the top of the league.

What a team, what a club despite selling the players they have.

I havent seen the match but yes a very bad for Wolves. Brighton are class so I did expect them to win.

Im still backing Wolves to avoid the drop.

In other news. Liverpool started all over the place. lol But once settled in , easy win even with 10 men. Not sure about the sending off, so far the refs have been poor.

It wasn't a red, it was one of those challenges which maybe little bit worse then yellow but not severe enough to be red.

You look going forward but your defence is like a heavyweight boxer with a glass jaw

I think we just need to chill out a little at the beginning of matches. We seem to rush to dominate, PL is too strong for this.

Not convinced with Gapko playing deep. Endo should start.

But overall , I feel Liverpool will outscore almost every team this season if need be.

United and Spurs both going for it.

Surprising that it's still 0-0

The outscoring will only work against weaker teams, and definitely ain't going to help any team win a title and that's what Liverpool should be challenging for.

Leicester City maintained their perfect start to the season in dramatic fashion as Cesare Casadei came off the bench to score an injury-time winner at home to Cardiff City.

Wanya Marcal-Madivadua fired the dominant hosts into a first-half lead with an emphatic first-time finish.

But against the run of play, Aaron Ramsey equalised before the break with a spectacular swerving strike from almost 35 yards.

That inspired a second-half revival from Cardiff, who wasted a fine chance to win as Yakou Meite shot wide, before Casadei - signed on loan from Chelsea on Tuesday - struck from close range to save Leicester.

Casadei's goal came as a relief for Leicester, finishing powerfully after fellow substitute Jamie Vardy appeared to be fouled in the penalty area to make it three wins from three under new manager Enzo Maresca.

As for Cardiff, this was another cruel late concession after they saw victory slip from their grasp in added time at Leeds United on the opening weekend. It also means Erol Bulut is still searching for his first league victory as Cardiff boss after a draw and two defeats.

The teams' contrast in early-season fortunes was evident in the opening exchanges at the King Power Stadium as Leicester started strongly, with goalkeeper Mads Hermansen strikingly positioned near the halfway line during long spells of possession for the home side.

They were quick to demonstrate their attacking threat as Kelechi Iheanacho's beautiful curling left-footed shot from the edge of the penalty area beat Cardiff keeper Jak Alnwick but hit the post.

After Iheanacho saw another shot deflected narrowly wide and Stephy Mavididi had a penalty appeal rejected after tangling with Mahlon Romeo, Leicester's pressure eventually told as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's corner was not cleared and Marcal-Madivadua struck with a thumping first-time shot.

Cardiff could barely lay a glove on their opponents but then, in first-half injury time, they scored out of nowhere as Ramsey unleashed a stunning long-range shot which dipped and swerved into the far corner.

Summer signing Alexis Mac Allister was sent off in his first home match for Liverpool but the Reds still overpowered Bournemouth in a thrilling Premier League game at Anfield.

The Cherries, who had already had a goal disallowed because Jaidon Anthony was offside, scored inside three minutes when the Reds gave away possession and Antoine Semenyo fired sweetly into the bottom corner.

Jurgen Klopp's side eventually got into their stride in a frantic first half and scored twice in an eight-minute period.

Luis Diaz got the equaliser when he collected Diogo Jota's low cross, flicked the ball up, spun and volleyed home.

Summer signing Dominik Szoboszlai then went to ground after a challenge at the corner of the box by Joe Rothwell and Mohamed Salah converted the rebound after his penalty was parried by Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto.

Argentina World Cup winner Mac Allister, signed in a £35m deal from Brighton, was shown a straight red card midway through the second half when he caught the foot of Ryan Christie.

But the 10 men of Liverpool scored a third as Szoboszlai's low shot was pushed out by Neto and Jota netted from close range.

I think we can oustcore any team but yes its not going to work all the time. Im sure our defence will improve vastly as the season goes on. Thankfully we have arguably the best keeper.

Bissouma has beeb outstanding for spurs so far in this game. End to end basketball type game this

Defence will only improve with new signings. Van dyyk isn't player he was and rest ur Defence is woeful. Allision us work class and without him ud be in trouble

Rashford is so overated. He had his best season in his life , was being touted as some kind of genius lol.

Utd will prob get some lucky pen and get a draw.
Playing him up front on his own is tactically dumb, ten hag has used poor tactics in 2 games in row now

Playing him up front on his own is tactically dumb, ten hag has used poor tactics in 2 games in row now

Ten Haag has spent 3 + hundred Million without buying a proven striker. This could be a long season for them if he doesnt find a good formation and playing style.

Tottenham secured their first win under the management of Ange Postecoglou and in the post-Harry Kane era with a thrilling and deserved victory over Manchester United.

There were pre-match demonstrations against chairman Daniel Levy and owners ENIC, but Postecoglou was given a thunderous reception and once the action got under way Spurs responded with a vivid demonstration of the attacking style that is the Australian's trademark.

Spurs and United created chances throughout a sometimes chaotic encounter before the deadlock was broken by Pape Matar Sarr's goal, drilled high into the net from close range four minutes after the interval.

In a game of numerous chances, Spurs sealed the victory in front of the ecstatic home support after 83 minutes when Ivan Perisic's cross took a touch off Ben Davies before going in via Lisandro Martinez.

The home side hit the woodwork twice in the first half through Pedro Porro and Luke Shaw's deflection, while Antony hit the upright for United, new Spurs keeper Guglielmo Vicario saved superbly from Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes somehow headed wide of an open goal in the first half.

Both sides also had penalty appeals turned down when Cristian Romero handled and then when the Spurs defender appeared to be bundled to the ground by Martinez at the other end, but ultimately it was Spurs' greater attacking intent that made the difference.

Ten hag needs to sort out united midfield and attack quickly
