Manchester United: 2025/2026 Season

People are continuing to push the panic button. But it’s calm now after the storm now. Interim is an interim. Not a disaster. Season is a write off already, it’s all about finding the right manger now.

Man United finally made the right call. Can breathe a sigh of relief.

Amorim was a 30 something percent win rate manager setting new lows in man united history. Bottled a Europa league final against a so injury ridden spurs that even ange had no choice but play defensive. Beaten by Grimsby town. Plays a weird formation that makes no sense. Can not adapt in the slightest. Defeatist mentality, constantly calling his team terrible. And worst of all I’m confident I’m sure he quickly realised he didn’t even want to be there. I have never seen such a poor manger at a big club.

The worst outcome was building a specialist squad around a manger who is inept. Which likely would have happened if Amorim was kept. Have to cut your losses. This manager didn’t deserve any backing. You have to prove yourself to get backing.

Like carrick as interim. He was a smart player. He’s fine for interim. A mistake would be bringing back ole, need to move on. Of course carrick should have not get permanent job.

Xavi is the only guy I could think of which man united could get now.

Otherwise most of the other decent candidates, Hansi flick, pochettino, tuchel etc will be at end of season.

Flick, Tuchel, Ancelotti are all upgrades on Xavi. If not them, then I'd go for Luis Enrique

I don’t believe elite managers are willing to come to Utd. Since 2018 managers who have held the job (permanent or interim), include Solskjaer, Carrick, Rangnick, ten Hag, van Nistelrooy, Amorim and Fletcher. None of these are elite.

Arsenal chose a novice, amateur in Arteta who after 6 years, a billion spent may win the league this season. On this basis, money is needed not elite manager.

Pochettino and Tuchel were ready to come. Especially the former. These are very good managers with proven records. Pretty sure Conte wanted to. Ancelotti went to Everton, so you could probably add him too, a bit hard to believe he'd choose Everton over united given the choice. And these are the ones that you could pretty much openly confirm. There are probably quite a few others who either were willing and stayed private or were simply not approached, convinced by the board knowing they wanted someone else.

Man united have gone repeatedly for the exciting young, unproven manager. And honestly fans are to blame too, because most of time as a majority they wanted these choices. They wanted Ten Hag over Poch. Same with most wanting Amorim. Board gave them what they wanted.

I think part of it is living under the shadow of Alex Ferguson. They don't want a big successful manager to come and swoop in and leave a legacy. It doesn't feel right. They want a manager to come in, be there for the long term and develop a legacy. Build their legacy at united, not have done it somewhere else. I think Arsenal have the same approach too. Emery was a guy who hadn't really been given a big club yet (PSG doesn't really count for me, as its a unique situation, where it's too easy to win the league and too hard to win Champions League). Emery of course, this is his first coaching job. Even with united's case, Moyes seemed an awful strange appointment to come in after Ferguson.

The only exception is Mourinho. Who I feel was taken with the idea he'd get a few trophies, restore man united's image somewhat and then move on. Kind of what he did at each club he managed, he never stayed long. And in some ways he did that, just didn't get the biggest trophies.

Glasner and Southgate are still leading the odds, and it again will run with the theme of trying to pick a younger less established manager and let him build his legacy at united.

I think the elite managers that don't want united are ones happy in their current job at top teams. Those who are happy in retirement, waiting on the sidelines (Zidane is an example). But that doesn't rule out all of them. Even now you can see there are rumours of Xavi, Enrique, flick, Tuchel, Poch etc. Lots of good candidates. And this is the worst man united have ever been. They were around european football, winning the odd trophy here and there not too long ago.

While contrary to opinion of most, I think united's main issue has been wrong choice of manager. They have got it wrong every time. Either unproven, or managers past their best. Mourinho didn't even fit the brand of football united historically wanted to play. And of course if you're hiring managers that aren't great fits, backing managers properly also becomes difficult. Difficult to take that risk, and when you do you might get a Ten Hag disaster.

Post Fergie Van Gaal and Jose were Elite.

Still dont think Arteta is Elite either

Ancelotti going to Everton was a huge shock move, don’t know what he was thinking.

Man united have gone repeatedly for the exciting young, unproven manager. And honestly fans are to blame too, because most of time as a majority they wanted these choices. They wanted Ten Hag over Poch. Same with most wanting Amorim. Board gave them what they wanted.
Then the board needs to be blamed for going the appeasement route.

I think part of it is living under the shadow of Alex Ferguson. They don't want a big successful manager to come and swoop in and leave a legacy. It doesn't feel right. Ferguson was one of one. There won’t be another one like him, fans judged van Gaal and Mourinho on those standards. Of all the managers who’ve come to United since Sir Alex, Mourinho deserved to be backed. He had a huge ego but he could have helped United. However, his sacking the season after he won the europa league and finished decent in pl was a big mistake. Elite managers want respect and it’s difficult to find the time to earn that at United.

The only exception is Mourinho. Who I feel was taken with the idea he'd get a few trophies, restore man united's image somewhat and then move on. Kind of what he did at each club he managed, he never stayed long. And in some ways he did that, just didn't get the biggest trophies.

Southgate is underrated btw. His non-flashy consistency could be just what United need atm.

You are right some out of these might be willing to come but I think it’s fair to say they’d want guarantees about job stability and control over key decisions. Remember in Amorim’s case he got his full balance payout. He also struggled to come to terms with being a ‘coach’ not ‘manager’ so don’t know what elite managers think of that situation at utd.

Hiring the wrong managers and then cutting losses (unceremoniously sacking) managers mid season is a recipe for failure and United manage to repeat this same formula every year.

Arsenal chose a novice, amateur in Arteta who after 6 years, a billion spent may win the league this season. On this basis, money is needed not elite manager.
Arsenal/arteta? What are you talking about, I am discussing utd’s manager issue and this is a serious situation.

Jose was the best and still not too past his prime at that time, utd missed an opportunity to keep him for 4-5 years.
Van Gaal was past his prime. Mourinho was probably a bit past it, but he didn’t fit into united’s idealogy. They resented becoming this defensive side. Squad players, pundits, fans all fought him on this. And the board didn’t back him in terms of rebuilding the side into this defensive mold. All the teams in the past, Chelsea, inter Milan. Even Real Madrid at the time, they accepted Mourinho’s football given their dreams of ending the Barcelona dominance knowing they couldn’t compete with their attack. They sided with Pogba and others over Mourinho. I think they’ve learnt their lesson finally, allowing rashford, sancho, Garnacho, Ronaldo (2nd stint) to leave, mainoo on the bench etc. But they didn’t during the Mourinho era. I think it’s been since ten hag came in that they’ve changed their tune on player power.

Arteta has done a great job at rebuilding a squad. It was terrible before him, even thought I think emery never got the chance. In fact man united and arsenal were in very similar positions. Whether Arteta wins a title or not, he’s succeeded at the first task, built a squad which is title challenging season after season and which another manager could come in and use. Every man united manager has failed at that task. Every Chelsea one has too for quite a while.

And it’s the same situation as man united. Arteta hasn’t been given full authoritative control either, with different sporting directors involved and disagreements on signings.

What Arteta has done is form a disciplined well run side, with good signings, and modern football tactics suited to the premiership (even if there are complaints about visual/entertainment). I think it’s likely he would have done a better job than all the previous managers United managers after Ferguson if given the United job. As most of their pickups for managers were either guys trying to play old outdated tactics. Or unproven tactics from weaker foreign leagues.

Thats why I think United need a big manager now in his prime. Yes you can to extent find someone like emery to do the job but it’s hard to identify. And the board’s record of picking and identifying managers has been woeful.

Ancelotti
Luis Enrique
Tuchel
Hansi flick

For me, the above names should be sought after, after the World Cup.

Jose was the best and still not too past his prime at that time, utd missed an opportunity to keep him for 4-5 years.

Player power got the better of Jose. The Board Backed Pogba, rather than Jose, which was a catastrophic error from their Part.

Former Man Utd players' comments 'irrelevant' - Carrick

Michael Carrick has branded the noise generated around Manchester United by former players "irrelevant" and says Roy Keane's personal comments "did not bother" him.

Carrick inherited Keane's number 16 shirt when he joined United from Tottenham in 2006.

He went on to win five Premier League titles and the Champions League but United were at the start of their downward spiral when they were beaten by Olympiakos in Europe's top-tier competition in 2014.

Carrick gave what Keane felt was a dour interview after that match and the Irishman's assessment triggered a fierce response from Carrick's wife Lisa at the time.

Although she quickly deleted an X-rated social media post, Keane has evidently not forgotten and branded her "a big mouth" when he assessed this week's appointments at Old Trafford on the latest Stick to Football podcast.

Keane also criticised the appointment of Jonny Evans to Carrick's coaching staff, in addition to that of ex-England assistant boss Steve Holland and Jonathan Woodgate, the former Leeds and Real Madrid defender, who previously managed Middlesbrough and was part of Carrick's staff at the Riverside.

The former United skipper and Gary Neville will both be part of Sky Sports' coverage of the Manchester derby on Saturday, providing another platform for controversy.

"They're not putting more pressure on me," Carrick said. "I don't feel that.

"There are plenty of opinions around, some positive, some not too much. It's totally irrelevant in terms of what I focus on.

"There's a lot that can be said, it's the way of the world. I'm not going to pay too much attention to that.

"For me, the players and staff, we focus on how we're going to succeed."

Asked about the personal attack by Keane, Carrick said: "It didn't bother me."

The Manchester United head coach said he had not been set any targets for his 17 games in charge but spoke about European qualification being a "step forward".

He also said he had spoken to Sir Jim Ratcliffe and members of the Glazer family when they held their monthly board meeting at Carrington on Thursday, although his primary contact is with director of football Jason Wilcox and chief executive Omar Berrada.

"The ownership group were in and around it," said Carrick. "It was nice to see them and meet them.

"We were able to share a few things and they wished all the very best."

'United is not soulless, there is still a magic'

United go into the Manchester derby with City at Old Trafford in poor form, with one win in their past seven games.

They have dropped six points in their past three league matches - against Wolves, Leeds and Burnley - and are seventh in the table.

However, with a trip to leaders Arsenal next weekend, Carrick could easily find his side in the bottom half of the table before a home game against Fulham on 1 February, when fan protests are planned against the ownership.

However, Carrick dismissed the idea of United being a fallen giant at a low ebb.

"I certainly don't think it's soulless," he said. "I think there's a magic around this place, you can't help but feel that.

"Part of my role and responsibility is shaping what we want to look like going forward. What happens on the pitch is one thing but certainly the culture as well, how we think, how we act, how we behave, what it means for us to be here, is part of my responsibility.

"I've been back for three days and there's nothing I've looked at that's red-flagged anything.

"The players have been really good, willing to listen, willing to learn, wanting to do better, wanting to put better performances in - that's the feeling I've got.

"Everyone's desperate to do well and I've got a lot of belief in this group individually and collectively."

'Errs on the side of disrespectful'

Darren Fletcher said he sought the blessing of his former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson before taking interim charge at Old Trafford and Keane claimed that the 84-year-old, along with former chief executive David Gill, are "hanging around like a bad smell".

Former United defender Rio Ferdinand disagrees with his former team-mate and told BBC Radio 5 Live that Ferguson doesn't have the influence that people think.

"I think his experience is felt there," Ferdinand said. "To say hanging around like a bad smell errs on the side of disrespectful.

"The likes of Fletcher and Carrick do call him. They respect him. They have seen most of their career playing alongside him. Why wouldn't you call on that experience?

"David Gill, these guys are Man Utd fans. Why aren't they going to be around the club? I think that is more personal and Roy's situation around the manager. I wouldn't agree with that myself."

Ferdinand doesn't agree with criticism over Carrick's appointment and said it was vital for the club to bring in "a steady person".

"I don't think it's an easy call for the people making this decision," he added. "What they have done is gone with someone who knows a good amount of the players, knows the club and is going to get a team around him with a blend of experience to give him the best chance possible.

"I think Carrick, in this situation right now, where else are you going to look around and say 'I think that is better' that is achievable and gettable?"

BBC

Ruthless from Utd. Great start to Carrick's tenure as Man Utd Coach (albeit short-term).

If it wasn't for the offsides and Donna Kebab in goal, it would've been one hell of a massacre.

Congrats to Utd fans and if Arsenal can take advantage, many thanks from us Gooners.

Arsenal are well ahead of Man U. You’ve just insinuated that you’re better than us because you reached an European final is just so dumb.

Paul Merson was right when he said Man U’s ex players and fans need to realise you’re not the Man Utd team that had the likes of Ronaldo, Giggs, Scholes, Keane, Ferdinand and Vidic. Those days are long gone. You’re a mid table team that got knocked out by Grimsby a few months ago. That is the reality whether you like it or not.

I don’t expect Arsenal to win the league this season but I would rather be where we are as current leaders than be closer to 17th in the relegation zone. You are 17 points away from 1st and 11 points ahead of 17th.

Also, with you all due respect you can’t be belittling Arsenal when your known for appetite for mediocrity when it comes to your perspective of sport in general. I didn’t want to bring it up but you forced my hand. You are one of Misbah’s biggest fans. Going by your logic if your standard is that low, who are you to pick on any of the top half sides of the PL?

You can misbehave if you want but don’t go crying to mods when you’re shown the mirror bc.
The only thing you do is bring up Misbah when you have nothing else to say.

What a win and what a performance!!! This Man United isn't as bad as people thought it was. Ruben Amorim was holding it back.

Still, we mustn't get carried away. It is only one game, and regardless of how well Carrick does, he mustn't get the job full-time. We mustn't repeat the mistake we made with Ole.

Agree. Fulfilling the interim role is the best it should get.

If Carrick does well as interim, hopefully, he can get another job in the Premier League where he can prove himself.
He looked ready and confident. Comparing this with first pl matches for let’s say ten Hag, Rangnick, Amorim who looked out of place at Utd from day 1.

A problem with a lot of these managers nowadays is that they want to micromanage every little detail, and that was Ten Hag and Amorim's downfall. As a manager, all you have to do is set the team right and let your players do the rest. That is exactly what Carrick did today. The team shape and formation was all perfect, and Man United have good enough attacking players to do the rest.

Steve Hollands Appointment should not be underestimated. Hes a proven Coach with very good pedigree. Carrick in good company there.

So you’re going to ignore the rest of my post?

You cannot go around insinuating that your team is superior to Arsenal because you finished runners up against spurs in Europa League Final.
I’m not trying to be horrible. Arsenal were not in the Europa League because they finished in the top 4, so they had no chance of winning it.

You are a clown of the highest order. Now go watch a compilation of Arsenal bottling everything for the last 5 years and cry yourself to sleep.

You cannot be mocking Arsenal for bottling after that sh1t show against Spurs in last year’s final. Imagine bottling to them of all sides.

You’ve shown once again that you’re not the sharpest tool in the shed.

I’m not trying to be horrible. But you come across as a complete idiot. Arsenal were not in the Europa League because they finished in the top 4, so they had no chance of winning it.

Supporting Misbah highlights your appetite of mediocrity, so yes it is relevant because I’m wondering who are you to ridicule Arsenal?

I never insinuated that Man United are superior to Arsenal because they reached the Europa League. Stop making stuff up.

In my lifetime, I have forgotten Man United winning more trophies than you have seen Arsenal winning trophies.

I can absolutely mock Arsenal for bottling the league for the past few years, if Arsenal fans are going to mock Man United for losing the Europa League. Football fans banter with each other all the time. If you can't handle that, please stay out of football threads.

And next time, if you ever decide to reply to one of my posts, please do so without bringing up Misbah. I moved on from Misbah the minute he retired as a player, which was nearly a decade ago. But yet, you still bring up Misbah all the time. I am starting to think that you have a weird and unhealthy obsession with Misbah. Seek help, my bro.

Bryan Mbeumo has been a wonderful signing so far.

Ineos have done a lot wrong since their appointment, but I will give them credit for the signings that they have made. Mbeumo, Cunha, Sesko, Lammens and Drogu are all signings that I am happy with.

Yes. Mbuemo is absolute class. He has the strong mentality to succeed at a big club, which is required at Utd.

Our attack is much better now. Not too long ago, we had the likes of Hojlund, Antony, Rashford, Sancho and Granacho. Now we have Cunha, Sesko, Amad, and Mbeumo. We have invested well in attack. Now, we need to invest in the midfield department in the summer.

Carrick being an ex United player and him being English must have helped. He seemed unfazed. On the other hand the other new managers were struggling to communicate with the media and their squad. Which is why I think Emery won’t be a good fit either at Utd because he’s not a natural at speaking well. United need a strong personality who can deal with the media/ fan pressure etc too. Ten Hag, Amorim clearly struggled with these aspects of the job.

I never insinuated that Man United are superior to Arsenal because they reached the Europa League. Stop making stuff up.

So why did you bring up your appearance in the Europa League final then as if this was some kind of achievement? :ROFLMAO:

Amorim was awful, but he did something that Arteta still hasn't done in 6 years at the club.

Reach a European final.

Enjoy another season of zero trophies :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

In my lifetime, I have forgotten Man United winning more trophies than you have seen Arsenal winning trophies.

This doesn't make any sense. Imported English I assume?

Banter and being brain dead are two different things. You decided to go brain dead and I had to show you the mirror.

You haven't moved on from Misbah. You're celebrating your Europe League final appearance. This is exactly what I would expect from Misbah and his supporters. Remember when Misbah cut cake after losing a test match in Australia?

You are right about Emery's communication skills, even though I rate him as very highly. When he was Arsenal, people made fun of Emery's communication skills, especially the "good evening" bit. At Man United, it will be just as bad.

Former Man United star urges Lisandro Martinez to ‘grow up’ after post Manchester derby comments

Manchester United legend Nicky Butt has fired back at Lisandro Martinez following the defender’s fiery reaction to post-match comments made after the Manchester derby.

While praising Martinez’s performance, Butt urged the Argentine to “grow up” after his emotional response to pundit criticism and on-field gestures following United’s 2-0 victory over Manchester City.

Nicky Butt began by acknowledging Lisandro Martinez’s impressive showing against Erling Haaland, calling his performance one of the best of the season. “First and foremost, he was brilliant on the day, and fair play to him.

“He’s gone out and he’s gone man-to-man against probably the best centre-forward in Europe, in the world possibly,” Butt said on The Good, The Bad & The Football.

“He was brilliant so we’ll come on here now and go, ‘Brilliant, well done! Everyone has done really great,’ but that’s what is to be expected as a Manchester United player on a derby day.

“But brilliant, he’s done really well. For me, we’re podcasters and we talk like three lads in a pub having a conversation. We’re not on Sky doing commentary on a game,” the United legend added.

Martinez, who had silenced critics with his physical and tactical dominance over Haaland, appeared to take issue with remarks made on the podcast suggesting Haaland could “carry him around.”

Following the match, the Argentine centre-back made a point of mocking that line with his own gestures during post-match celebrations, something Butt didn’t take lightly.

Nicky Butt responds to Lisandro Martinez’s gestures, says ‘grow up’

Continuing on the podcast, Butt expressed disbelief over Martinez’s reaction. “It’s tongue in cheek, it’s quite obvious that Haaland’s not going to pick him up and run with him. It’s f______ obvious, that. It’s a figure of speech.”

Utd’s feel good phase coming to an end on Sunday iA. Their attacking threat is very real though. They have scored more goals than Liverpool and Villa this season but also conceded much more. I think Arsenal will make light work of this. 3-0 to the Arsenal loading 🤣

OK Piers Morgan!

I think it could happen.

XA is 44 years old. Top player. Top experience. Long milage.
Prem is a different beast. We would lose games on corners and long throws with his style of player. This is why Casemiro (6o mintes only) and Maguire have some utility. They are magnets in both boxes

If we don't concede from a corner - we can win.
Set Piece FC is real.
Saka v Shaw is the key battle

Agree. Maguire and Co can handle Arsenals Aerial bombardment which should nullify their main threat. We should be aiming for a positive result.

Midfielder Casemiro to leave Man Utd this summer

Manchester United have said midfielder Casemiro will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of this season.

The 33-year-old joined from Real Madrid for £70m in 2022 and has made 146 appearances.

He scored the opening goal in the 2023 Carabao Cup final win over Newcastle as Manchester United finished third in the Premier League in his first season.

But last year he was mentioned by new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe who said some players were "not good enough" and "overpaid".

The Brazil international said: "I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life.

"It is not time to say goodbye; there are many more memories to create during the next four months.

"We still have a lot to fight for together; my complete focus will, as always, remain on giving my everything to help our club to succeed."

Arsenal are nothing special. The fact that they are top of the league shows just how much the Premier League and football in general have declined. In the past, I have seen better teams finish 3rd or 4th. If Arsenal win the league, they would be the worst team to ever win the Premier League.

We can definitely beat Arsenal. We have no reason to fear them.

United seem to have a mentality shift...

Ditching Casemiro and the names they have been linked with are good shouts, young, hungry, proven- the issue is gelling it all together.

Mount is someone i like as a player- if he gets back to full fitness, he will be an asset.

How’s the josh boys.. ready for another phainti? 😂😂 Utd’s feel good phase under Carrick ends today iA.

Actually confident of getting a result. Our Achilles heel is our defence, but Arsenals attack seems to be miss firing and our attack seemingly fluid. One way or the other, it will be a tight game.

Utd are a dangerous side even on their worst days and honestly this season they are doing much better than last. United have the ability to get a result here but I think Arsenal will be too strong for them at home.

United have the third most number of goals this season, creating chances is no issue for them.

Jesus in for Gyokeres means a more possession based philosophy from Arsenal. I was hoping For Gyokeres to start, Arsenal look abit more predictable with him in the side tha Jesus.

On paper it should be an easy win for Ars. However we have seen before a manager gets sacked..interim comes in and strings together a purple patch. Will be a entertaining match either way.

I think after Casemiro, maybe time for overrated Bruno also to say bye at the end of the season.

Utd look pretty comfortable.

If Carrick decides to go hard fir 3 points , it’s on for sure .

This Arsenal team is top of the league lol

Vieira telling it like it is, to many backwards and side ways passes.

Are we going to risk and go for win or play for a draw like cowards

Stoke get their set piece equaliser. Utd confused , should of known better it’s a corner lol

Wow, what a win. I am so proud of the boys. I can’t remember the last time I was so proud of Man United. Congrats to all the man United fans on PP.

I already said that this Arsenal team is nothing special. They are just a set piece team. Essential a richer version of Tony Pulis’ Stoke.

Tougher tests though lie ahead. I want to see how Carrick does when we come up against a low block side, as those are the sort of teams that we have struggled more against over the past few years.

United played really well, bossed the game, was so surprised, expected more from Arsenal...

Still think Arsenal walk the league as City have been poor...

You can’t win the league from corners lol . Gyokeres is dog turd, it was obvious before he kicked a ball in the prem . The manager is a bottler , as soon as Utd went 1-2, he made 4 changes out of desperation without any thought or strategy. 15 mins to go he makes 5 subs , any injury after this would have been humiliating

Carrick looks the manager needed . However a badly out of form Liverpool dominated them at home and so did City .

Sigh. Why did they get rid of Amorim. When you play quality players in their actual positions with a style of play and formation that works you get this.

I guess people are now realising how bad Amorim was. He literally made the team worse.

Congrats United.

In Amorim’s final month as a manager, we got a total of 4 points out of 15 against Bournemouth, 10 men Everton, Wolves, Leeds and Burnley.

Imagine if Man United sacked him a month earlier, we might actually be in a title race right now.

I agree. Which is why I’ve been so much Amorim out. I’ve never seen a top club manager that bad. People made so many excuses for him.

Just the wrong manager to have stayed loyal too. A pity because the one time they decide to back a manager through thick and thin is Amorim. The rest perhaps they were a bit hasty getting rid of (though still think none were right fits for United).

Really impressed by carrick. It’s strange what to do now. The manager market is so good at end of season, that if they don’t get someone like luis enrique they might regret it. I honestly think maybe you keep carrick if he does well this season. Unless a truly elite manager like luis enrique comes. Glasner or so ain’t a step up.

Carrick should not stay beyond his interim period. We had the same situation with Ole a few years back. He was then found out being tactically inept and his ending was sad.

Theres always a surprise period for new managers. But then opposition study the tactics and Philosophy, and unless there's improvement, they can get found out.

For me it has to be Luis enrique or Ancelotti. Maybe Carrick can be part of the backroom staff.

Welbeck knocks United out again in FA cup at OT. He's done it with 2 different clubs now.

Uniteds season is over 🤭

What Goes around, comes around. We beating Arsenal today could set a negative mentality within the Arsenal camp which City could pray on abd take the title.

Carrick is a lot more tactical astute than ole I think. This feels different than ole to me.

But you’re right you take either enrique and no question. But what about if you can’t get them. For example maybe you get even a tuchel who’s a very good manager but he doesn’t do too great and people will moan that they should have kept carrick. I think it has to be someone who fans would be over the moon with now.

Utd cannot afford to let fans emotional attachment dictate the appointment. It was the same with Ole.

Bar Enrique, there's going to be quite a few top names looking for work.

Enrique
Tuchel
Ancelotti
Flick
Poch
Conte

For me Utds test of character will be revealed in games where they are the FAVOURITES. Its thesegames where they come unstuck

I think Carrick is a good coach and did a reasonably good job at Middlesbrough in his previous job.

However, I am not sure about keeping him beyond this season. If we win most of our games for the remainder of the season and put in similar level of performances that we saw against Man City and Arsenal, then perhaps, but even then, I would prefer someone with a bit more experience, such as Enrique.
