You can make a case for the likes of Shafiq and Rahat but big things are expected from big players and are therefore subject to more criticism.
1) Ajmal
He has been toothless in this series and once again flopped in Dubai.
Younis
2) Played a joke of a shot on the 4th morning, as a senior, he was expected to show a bit more responsibility and had he batted the same way as Misbah, we'd have drawn the game.
Younis for such an experienced and class player always goes missing when the team really needs him. For a senior player in a brittle batting line up that is just criminal.

Are you for real? Ajmal cannot do magic on slow and dead wickets. Also we are talking Sri Lanka here who are fairly comfortable players of spin. Nothing much he could do on these pancakes.
Younis Khan certainly deserves the criticism for the shot he played but he is definitely not the reason for the loss. If anyone needs to be blamed it Misbah for his poor team selection and continuous backing of the same tried, tested players who should have been shown the door after the loss in Zimbabwe

we should blame Younus for taking the match to 5th day, sounds logical![]()
What about our bowling ?

Well in the second innings it was a poor effort from the bowlers, but in the first innings I thought they bowled pretty well.
Bottom line is, it's the batting that flopped, particularly the three that I have named above.
I don't understand how Hafeez is match ka mujrim. Yes he got out early but at the end when you need 60 off 50 and have 6 wickets in hand, it's not his responsibility to finish the game. Sharjeel, Maqsood, and Shehzad are all more to blame than Hafeez because they were all well set when they threw their wickets away. Hafeez has become a punching bag for dumb fans who don't know jack all about the sport but talk like they are some great analysts.
That being said, the real culprits today were Akmal, Misbah and Afridi today. All three of them threw their wickets away at a crucial time when Pakistan was on top.
the top four, pak weren't chasing 204 but 296
Afridi was miserable with bat and bowl, he should come in much later
hafeez was miserable with bat and bowl , he should be dropped
Sharjeel is a glorified pinch hitter, they need to bring in someone who has a map in his head of how to chase big scores
Maqsood is a miss and hit player and has done nothing to maintain his place in the team
The only problem with the squad is there's enough replacements for all the underachievers and all the sloggers
brainfarts all around: Umar Akmal, Misbah and Bhatti
blame should also lie on Ahmed Shehzad for his tuk tuk. Which indirectly result in Sharjeel Khan's wicket.
Traditionally I agree, that it's the responsibility of the people who are set to finish off the match.
But when you have 5 wickets in hand and need 40 runs and you collapse like a pack of cards there's no one else to blame but the lower order.
Anyone of them sticking to the end, would have finished the match.
As it happened, Pakistan got bowled out before their overs, which is criminal in any sense.

The top order is to blame bcz they couldnt make their starts count. Even hafeez had a start as he got 19 runs. On a flat track for our top 4 to bat like this is downright criminal. The top 4 has a responsibility and its not to be 4 down for 80 ODD. In such important positions you need to be responsible or just give up and say your not good enough. Then comes the lower order who couldnt stand on the wicket for 3 minutes.
My point is if you blame the top order then blame all 4 of them. You can't pick and choose on the basis of who you like and dislike. Shehzad, Sharjeel, and Maqsood all got better starts than Hafeez and were more settled than him so they should get the bigger share of the blame no?

Shehzad, Sharjeel and Maqsood combined have less matches than Hafeez. Who should take more responsibility during run-chases?
Which is why i blamed all four. I believe all four share the blame equally. when you are the top 4 chasing such big targets. cute 20,s and 10,s wont help. You need to give a good start and the number 4 and 5 need to accumulate to win the match. Ideally today misbah shouldnt have come to bat or should have come at the end.
If they aren't ready to take responsibility and handle the pressure then maybe they should play for Pakistan A.
No, you need to get in and then not throw your wicket away the way all of them did. But for me the blame at the end rests on Akmal, Misbah and Afridi's shoulders.
Afridi. he plays like a kid. has learnt nothing from his 400 matches
Hafeez should be first in line. Stop defending Hafeez with these straw-men arguments. These three are all below the age of 27 and have a part to play in our future. Hafeez is on his last legs and won't last past the 2015 WC. Who should be taking more responsibility?
What wrong did Akmal and Misbah do? The former played superbly and was doing well to bring the run-rate down while Misbah played a shot that was on but got unlucky with the fielder. Afridi played a rash stroke without first, getting his eye in.
After reading the post match comments from Misbah, it seems like he is just happy to be scoring runs and winning is not the first priority. Just tells you about the mindset. He was probably thinking, I've got my 50 and it's okay for me to get out.

He was responding to a question from Harsha. You also left out the fact that he praised Akmal for his runs today.

good post. I agree that Zaheer Abbas is not the right coach for this team.I know this Fatullah ground like my palm (have played some matches there). The out field is so fast there that often batsman cutting hard had to hustle for a single (for the speed of the ball reaching to the fielder on boundary). 325 is par for the course here & PAK bowlers bowled brilliantly to reduce at least 35 runs. The dew in Fatullah is just perfect- just enough to bond the surface & take the swing/seam from the ball, but not heavy enough to discolor the ball or slowing the outfield. Today, probably apart from PAK, any of the other top 7 team would have won this match chasing.
On any ground, even the best of batting paradises, if the highest for top 4 is 28, one can hardly chase close to 300. In that regard, the blame should go to top 4; Misbah & Akmal just made the inevitable frustratingly close. However, if I am to personalize, I 'll put Hafeez as 2nd (because, on that paradise, you simply can't get out swinging across against someone like Mathews, specially when you have just lost your partner). But, today I think PAK lost the match for Maqsood - a top order can't pick the only fielder on boundary against that ball (Senanayek's expression tells it all). His wicket allowed Mathews to squeeze run rate with lesser bowlers & preserve overs of Malinga & Senanayek for later stages. That shot selection was horrible, match loosing shot. It was such a stupid shot that I can only say someone batting at no 10 or 11 in Indian team won't have got out to that ball, at that situation.
I believe Zaheer Abbas is enjoying his pension as the Batting consultant. During "Oval gate" time, I saw a professional Woolmer running to field to restrain his Captain, while the entire period Mr. Manager (Guess who) was laughing & gossiping over mobile. Today, in 49th over, Indian Arun Lal couldn't restrain himself digging at the intellectual capability of PAK batsmen (Normally commentators don't become so straight forward) - words were strong enough for someone with self respect & dignity to resign from the post of Batting consultant.
Why shouldn't Afridi be dropped? He was worse than Hafeez and Sharjeel.
So now that we've dropped Afridi, Hafeez, Sharjeel and Maqsood we can line up as follows:
Shehzad
Fawad
Misbah
Akmal
Bhatti
Anwar Ali
Rehman
Gul
Ajmal
Junaid
Talha
Oh yea, you definitely know what you're talking about.

Today I think it's Misbah for giving those two last overs to Gul.
Gul just produced a wicket that was given not out. If anything, it's the umpires.
Mohammad Hafeez is match ka mujrim. On paper it looks like he did well but he hasn't finished the game. It's all about finishing the game and if you don't then your runs are useless. Not to mention, this guy run out our best batsman today and dropped Jadeja who went on to make a 50. Truly atrocious performance and is the sole reason for the loss today.
All our OVER-HYPED phast bowlers. Got showed their Oqaat today.
Nigel Llong. And our ridiculous fast bowling. 260 is a very defendable total.
This. So much this. Some people are acting like 260 is the equivalent of 180 or something, with our supposed great bowling attack we had more than enough on the board to make life difficult but all the pacers have been useless.
