Moeen Ali - Performance Watch

And which team was this legendary hundred against? They must have had 5 bowlers bowling at 150+ klicks.

Relatively speaking he out performed the entire England team so he deserves credit there and if he'd only scored a 30-40 ignorant individuals like yourself and the Mamoon confused character would have said he can't even score runs past Scotland.
Let's just accept people like you can't help yourselves when it comes to hating guys with facial hair. Such a strange insecure outlook on life.

So you consider a 100 against a minnow a great innings? Have a look at ABD's innings today and tell me if that is a great innings.

savecricket

I have always been vocal about taking performances against minnows in context. That was a great knock by bhai and dismissing it as minnow bashing is hating for the sake of it.

Get your facts right, educate yourself before slinging mud at others.

Show me a post where I have said that his innings vs. Scotland wasn't good?

If not, walk away. Stop digging when in a hole.

Poor comment.

How can you criticize a player for scoring runs against minnows when others failed to turn up? What should he have done? Not score because it's a minnow?

Big deal he made a poor 100 against associates, wow, how does that make the innings great? Some of the post on here make like he faced Curtly, Marshall. Garner etc.

No one called it a legendary knock. It was a good innings because he was the only top order batsman to score runs.

The guy is a hack.

Define hack?? I'll accept he had a good go at most deliveries but that's what his employers want from him in this format.
Does he go after everything in tests? No! He's proven he can bat out an entire day v a good attack with the tail. He's not as one dimensional as you think and even that thinking is pretty silly.

It's pretty clear Indians don't like Amla and Moeen because of their beards, I hope they carry on scoring runs, crying Indians can weep all they like. Bunch of clowns.

What're you on about? We love Amla. It's Moeen Ali who a lot of us think is quite average, and rightfully so.

Quit being so sensitive about any of them in the first place - they don't play for Pakistan.

Hashim Amla isn't even Pakistani.

He's Indian.

Don't understand the support he garners over being an Indian Muslim.

I wonder why Zaheer Khan didn't get the same preference.

With Moeen you can actually say it's Pakistani heritage.

What excuse to make for Amla?

Dude you've got an insane problem with people supporting good Muslims. We're all Muslim before being British/Pakistani etc. Nothing wrong with admiring good Muslims who are making their way in a predominantly non-Muslim world. They're an example to us all showing us we don't need to compromise our religion to integrate.
I fear you're a victim of bad experience and if that's the case you should broaden your thoughts/views to identify those that speak the truth. Verily they will be good Muslims.

This ideology is the reason why no one cares about the mistreatment of non-Muslims in Pakistan. Ahmadis are slaughtered like pigs, but we'd rather show armchair support for people of Gaza.

Sums up this nation.

I call this nonsense, so don't sell it to me.

Admittedly it is a powerful ideology. A 'nation' of 1.5 billion people or so.

Tragically, it is mostly armchair support with little substance. And instead of it being used for positives, it is used as a shield for laziness and actually hampers local efforts if anything.

I made a donation to pak after what happened in peshawar i too at one point use to get a little emotional over gaza and i still do but it's no different to my concern for the plight of others around the world, peeps get more sentimental over the stuff in gaza a lot more because of the islamic history so forget about the plight in africa and other places that require humanitarian assistance.

However i didn't know people in pak itself were more concerned for others then their own, i always respect my routes but tend do the little i can in terms of charity for my people in England. I don't agree with ahmadis beliefs but they are human beings just like homosexuals like I Believe in the Teesra should be treated no different to a muslim. Never forget about the christians in pak either, although it was a nice gesture by the army i think who built a mosque for them on independence day.

Do I watch England or Pakistan today......tough choice.

I'm gonna watch England as Pakistan should win easily........

Moeen needs to improve his consistency. Flashy 20s and 30s will not cut it at this level

What I can work out is if you wear a long beard, your performance watch thread is fifteen times larger than normal. Anyway, get over him, he's barely international class beard or not.

Moeen Is all style no substance. Isnt good enough to open. Should be batting in the middle order.

Most likely because some poster start idiotic views which garner suitable responses, which in-turn sees the thread grow.

Which is a consequence of comments like 'I hope he scores runs against Pakistan but his team loses so that we win the game but his average is not disturbed'.

Don't shoot the messenger.

Count Mamoon posts in these type threads and you will get your answer he had like around 500 out of 2500 posts in Amla thread :))

Yes, because all the replies are because of those "comments" :P Many posts have nothing to do with Cricket either and just about facial hair for goodness sakes :))

He should be ready for another all round performance in the quarter final against his fav punching bag..:p

No beehive under Zaheer's chin Zaheer :(

The guy should not be opening in international cricket. He is better suited for 6 or 7 position.

He got run out.

Doesn't miss on mediocre bowling. His unfortunate dismissal was a massive blow.

Bhai will get out after his mandatory 20-30 unless it is a team like Scotland.. He is not an opener should come down the order could prove to be quite handy, he seems to have inherited his Pakistani genes of being a bit n pieces player.

He's been poor throughout this tournament, barring that 1 hundred. Should stay in the middle order because I don't think opening is for him.

Hes had a poor world cup but he was never world class anyway. Just an upcoming talented player. He isnt an opener though

The ECB's next captain

Very flexible and a team man, will bat and bowl wherever the teams wants him to

Adil Rashid is a better value player than Moeen. Heck I would take shehzad over moeen

Moeen is better than Shehzad he scores the same amount Shehzad does but a lot quicker. In tests Shehzad is better than Moeen though. Moeen doesn't have the temperament or technique for tests

When England were failing to take the last three West Indies wickets on the final day of the first Test in Antigua, Moeen Ali was stuck at Gatwick airport, waiting to fly out after his abdominal strain and join the tour.
When England were trying to take the last three West Indian wickets on the final day of the second Test in Grenada, to back up the great spell by James Anderson, Moeen polished them off – and England knocked them off.
It makes all the difference to England’s Test evolution that they have a wicket-taking spinner.
In Moeen’s past four Tests he has taken 16 wickets at 16 runs each, even though he was given only one over in the Oval Test against a crumbling India, and England have won them all.
Yet it was only on the final day of February last year that Moeen made his debut for England in any format. Just 14 months ago, yet he is filling Graeme Swann’s boots, he is enough of an all-rounder to have a higher Test batting average than bowling average, and he has been England’s most economical one-day bowler.

Moeen Ali: England spinner wary of Australia and New Zealand

England spinner Moeen Ali expects his second summer of Test cricket to prove more difficult than his first.
Moeen, 27, took 19 wickets in five Tests against India in 2014 but was less impressive in last week's win over West Indies, despite figures of 4-98.
"India didn't show me enough respect in the way they batted against me," he said. "It's going to be tougher playing New Zealand and Australia."
England start five Tests against the Kiwis in May and Australia in July.
In less than a year since making his Test debut against Sri Lanka, Worcestershire's Moeen has become key to England's attack and was flown out to Grenada for the victory over West Indies in the second Test after recovering from a side strain.
The off-spinner says that decision by the selectors gave him confidence and, despite a slow start with first innings figures of 1-47 then took three tail-end wickets as England bowled the hosts out for 307 in their second innings.
"Even when I wasn't bowling so well in the first innings it gave me confidence the management backed me, liked the way I bowl and think I'm a threat to the batsmen," added Moeen, who averages 27.53 with the ball in his eight Tests.
After a century in his second Test outing, Moeen has not contributed more than 40 in any knock since and is seen as an option to bat at six, with Jos Butler and Ben Stokes also possibilities.
"Whatever the captain and coach want me to bat I'm more than happy," he said. "We see it as a strong batting line up. Hopefully when we all play games and click we can be dangerous."
England begin their final Test of their tour of West Indies on 1 May, leading 1-0 in the series.

What success? He's low quality mediocre cricketer. Get him a razor abs done shaving gel and no one will care about this bits n pieces, journeyman cricketer. We all know why he's so popular and loved, especially among Pakistanis.

Very mediocre so far. Hides behind the wickets while facing short stuff.

I'm surprised as anyone at Moeen's spinning prowess

His form with the bat has been found out at intintl level however

He is a South African of Gujrati descent, just like Freddy Mercury was an Englishman of Gujrati descent. Ethnicity is not the same thing as nationality.

He has done well as a bowler. But his batting has been too inconsistent. Hes not a top order batsman at this level. Struggles against real pace and bounce and swing.

if people could actually read the articles above and digest facts they would know by the most well known measure he is a genuine all rounder ie batting average greater than bowling average

furthermore recently there was a thread where Boycott described him as hitting shots like Sobers

all the ingredients to be an era defining cricketer for England

fully expect him to have a Botham or Flintoff test against Australia this summer

Good point.

Definitely a quality cricketer and will have a long career for England, hopefully. One of my friends ran into him in England recently and he had nothing but praise for him as a person.

His bowling has exceeded expectations but his batting hasn't met them, partly because he isn't being trusted enough with the bat. I'd have him bat above Stokes and Buttler in the next test because if he's given responsibility, he should deliver.

Don't think he's good enough to own a test match like an Imran or Flintoff could but he should be useful for England.

Mamoon look who's fishing outside off stump in this thread :))) man sometimes even I can't help myself, that beard though.

Moeen still got a long way to go before he cements his place in the Test squad despite that fantastic series with the ball. He's a batsman first and he's not scoring any runs. The bowling has been okay but what people don't realise is that he's a part-timer and are overrating his performances. If he was a specialist spinner I'd give him more credit. Can't judge his bowling so early and claim he will remain consistent over a long period.

I won't be surprised if he is dropped after the Ashes or during the series itself.

Why is he disliked so much by some of the fans? Is it because of his appearance or is it something else I missed?

Because to me he looks to a handy cricketer, his bowling against us was pretty decent(although we threw a few wickets away). So I really don't get why he is m ocked so much here and also on a couple of other forums I am on.

You've got it wrong, he's absolutely loved over here.

He's having a decent test so far. Should have been given more overs by the captain.

Yep; bowled well at the end there. He's a short term fix to a long term problem, England need to bring in Rashid or Taylor. If they really want to play Ali it will have to be over Stokes or Woakes

Really? All I see is harsh criticism on this thread.I mean one poster said Shehzad is a better cricketer than Moeen :)). If thats not OTT hate than I don't know what is. Anyways I might be wrong but I am 99% sure his beard is the reason why some like him for reason and its also the reason why some hate him for no reason.

Why does someone having an opinion be defined as "hate" just because they think shehzad is better  although there are a few that hate the guy because of the beard.

Moeen got a long way to go yet he's still developing, Shehzad is a batsman which is more established then Mo in the Test arena and has a better record then Ali to so it's understandable if people think he is better then him at this stage but the comparisons can't really be made when Ali is still a rookie

Another good innings with the bat and a nice spell with the ball will establish his place in the English side. Adil Rashid didn't seem anything special in the tour match he played in the Caribbean while Tredwell is a defensive option. England are also going to need him when they tour the UAE, this year.

Better all-rounder than Stokes, I've always said it.

The only reason he gets overly talked about on here is because of 1 poster. If he does well, it's because it's a one-off performance or the bowling was tripe. If he does badly, it's because he's a average player with a long beard to show for it.

I'm surprised he doesn't get blamed for World catastrophes or the on-going shortage of food.

I think he meant Ajmal Shahzad.

Congratulations to English and Pakistani PPers, as well as Muslims around the world. :amla

Moeen's had a good test so far. Another 50+ and 3+ wickets could put him up for MOTM contention.

Poor fourth innings returns. Root was so much more threatening. Got lucky with the Southee dismissal but good on Cook to bring him back to restore some confidence.

And that catch. Lol. He caught it between his wrists.

He's had a very poor series, barring a decent knock at Lords.

He along with Bell and Ballance are in danger of getting the boot before they play Australia.

he will be dropped, while the others will get another chance..I hope not, I hope he gets a chance and they stick with him..cant be easy having to be shifted around the order so much and his role is ill defined!! He's got talent and I hope England give him a chance..

bell deserves the chop though but who to replace him with?

English players get scrutinized a lot. Moein played an important role in a lot of victories for England recently, is a reliable lower middle order batsman and one of the better spin bowlers in the world right now. Why would you drop him?

Pretty daft of England not giving Rashid a chance despite playing 5 tests this summer.

Their bowling attack can only afford Stoke or M Ali and considering the form Stokes is in ,Ali should make way for a genuine spinner like Rashid in the Ashes

Just the way England work. Their lower order has always been an issue for some time.
